Armys on ships

So I'm not entirely clear on something: Will troops in Empire travel directly on the ships you build? Or will it be like in MTW/RTW, where they're essentially being transported by boats and your ships are merely escorting the (unseen) transports?

I think by the sound of it this time they'll be the seen transport ships, which'll vanish only on the event of batle and reappear immidiatly after........

That is a bit lame. Really if we are aiming to stop an invasion force it should be our discretion to try to evade the escorts and just go right in and wreck the transports.

The They here refers to elephants , but one can be sure that it'll be similars for other units too, so, the armies are in the transports, which ofcourse, won't participate in the battle.........
Unless, there is a distinction between elephants and infantry where the latter can be transported using warships and the like.....

How will the game calculate how many of your soldiers are lost? If the transports were shown then it's likely some of them would be sunk or damaged with some of the soldiers killed. I don't see how this could be realistically calculated.
