Nasty bug that one, although I've never seen a captain/general decide to take the quickest route to his destination rather than taking the stairs. It sound like an event that would have made a very good screenshot.

Onagers are something you definitely have to be careful with - little problems such as this occur quite frequently. If you are using flaming projectiles, which further hampers their accuracy, even more so.
