Should I use inquisitors to raise the zeal in all my provinces? Is it a good thing to have it high? How will it help/hurt me?

    Thanks.

You should raise Zeal in Providences that one of your Crusades go through. All the way to the Target Providence of crusade. That way you will get as many men in crusade as possible.

But its a two handed sword if another factions crusade goes through your providence and you have high ZEAl it will strip your armies to nothing.

It is also bad to have high zeal in a province with a governor who has low piety, the peasantry won't like him. High zeal is good for governors with high piety.

"You there, knight!" "Yes, sir?" "We just lost that battle. Why did you order your men to charge that unit of enemy sergeants?" "Uh, I was impetuous, sir" "'IMPETUOUS!? Impetuous!? Men! Kill him, I want his head!"

Here's a possible combo to try to weaken your enemy.

Build some inquisitors. Send them into neighboring provinces. Raise the zeal to very high levels. Get it as close to 100% as possible.

Next, launch a bunch of spies into those provinces. Stir up trouble. Force your opponent to flood the territory with units in order to keep them under control.

Next, launch a crusade. Send it into high-zeal enemy provinces. Snatch all their troops. Leave their border territories weak and defenseless.

Boom. Once you leave, the province rebels. You've snatched most of your enemy's units (which, admittedly, they're no longer paying for, since they're in the crusade... but they're unavailable until the crusade is over). With luck, you can grab the territory without having to go to war.

    Fun fun!
