TORG: A valid school activity

From report card end of last year. The teacher passed round a slip of paper listing your school related activites (sports teams, debating etc) i put in TORG, or in actual fact "forums.totalwar.org". So now the .org is a recognised activity of St Peters Lutheran College Indooroopilly Campus.

Any other related incidents where the .org got mentioned?

I was going to use the Backroom of the org to see how others think. But I have not done that.

We have Unreal tournament

for some reason the school server doesn't detect it, i think they just blocked internet gaming websites and forgot about blocking LAN games

In my school, all students have access to a common network drive and so you can find warcraft III, starcraft, unreal, ect...

We only had a super-nintendo and gameboy advance emulator on the computers at my school. Unfortunately they were discovered and promptly deleted at the turn of the 07-08. Still, provided some joy in the later weeks of '07.

My HS had the Org blocked as a gaming site, so I never was able to get on it. Never really had a chance to mention it either.

We were more old-school, CS1.5 on all the PCs and people would bring in their laptops and play. Funny times playing on a laptop during a History class.

And Internet blocks are, shall we say, a rather meagre method of browsing prevention.

My school has gone all out this year. Code blocking, flash blocking, website blockers (5 different kinds) it drives me insane

and auto send when you goto a blocked site so you get auto lock out

To be fair, I've seen plenty of stuff on the Org that would qualify as legitimate resume material for college applications. The Backroom debates, the Monastery history discussions, the Mead Hall and Throne Room writings, the immense amount of work for some of the games in the Chapter House and Gameroom. People do things on the Org that they should legitimately be proud of.

Man, we never had that much access to computers at my High School. Our idea of in-school video-games was those little TI-82 calculator games. Our teachers were constantly making us erase our calculators' memory before tests and such, so they were pretty valuable.

You little whippersnappers and your in-class computers...

But to be fair, some of those calculator games were pretty cool. There was one I heard of through a friend -- though I was never able to play it -- that consisted entirely of getting drunk and shooting people.
