It kinda looks like Celto-Hellenic infantry, though it has been some time since I used those troops, so I´m not certain. Anyway, cool picture, I would not want to be in that army when the lava starts flowing.

I don't come here a lot any more. You know why? Because you suck. That's right, I'm talking to you. Your annoying attitude, bad grammar, illogical arguments, false beliefs and pathetic attempts at humour have driven me and many other nice people from this forum. You should feel ashamed. Report here at once to recieve your punishment. Scumbag.

Don't volcanoes in RTW always smoke when you play next to one on the map?
Every time I go into battle near any volcano I see smoke at the horizon.

But I must say, your pic looks really menacing, Obelics.

ah! you could not believe me, but it was the first time for me, if i well remember, that's was the cause of my excitation, all this years of EB playing and never noticed before... some time im a bit dull.

Anyway it could be just cause i can see the Vesuvius out my windows, so that why that thing has scared me a bit...

Yeah I can imagine that. How many people live in the Bay of Napels nowadays? More than a few million I thought. It would be a disaster if the mountain explodes again...

well there is an hight density of pop, also there are a lot of big suburbs just under the muntain... there are some suburbs that are called on Vesuvius too, for example "San Sebastiano al Vesuvio" that say much on how they are near. Im not near anyway, i think should be 12 km... anyway there are a lot of scientist from everypart of the world studing it. The actual hypotesis is that it will give some signals before to erupt. Hope it's not somethink the autorities say to dont creat alarm. Ok i touch my b....lls again...

I belive they have a pretty good plan in place, basicly to evacuate the nearby population within day's.

The real worry is Tokeyo it hasn't had a earthquake for 90 years but then it killed 10 of thosands, if it went now it would be awfull.

Also yellowstone, it it went the entire world would feel it.

It depends... do the people have enough confidence in the better judgement of the authorities?

Mostly because when you get the warning signs you do have plenty of time to evacuate... and by the time you have done so still 'nothing' happened. People will then get back to their homes, since who would really want to stay evacuated if nothing appears to happen at all? -- and then the warning signs start accumulating way too rapidly to respond adequately to.

When that thing goes, well... how are you going to outrun something coming at you with a speed up to or beyond some 200km/h? In a city+suburbs where there are another milion people trying exactly the same thing?

my grandmother, making the two horn fingers gesture towards people saying something that can bring bad luck, would have said:
    "SHOUW!" "SHOUW!" "TTHIEH'!" TTHIEH'!"
that is almost onomatopeic, and means "go away" "go away bad luck!" "take this!" "take this!"
I think it could be interesting for antropologists and ethnologists here...

talking seriusly, you're right, it is known there will be not lava floading like the Etna in Sicily, but there could have just an explosion, cause the magma accumulated in the time, has formed a sort of cap, so there is a big big pressure that can accumulate under that cap... better to not think what could happen, ok why i have opened this thread? im thinking also to Pompei and Erculaneum, those are treasures of the whole humanity, and they could... omg... i hope there will be some new great technologies if that will happen in a far far future...

My brother, who thinks poorly of the quality of organisation in Italy in general and the southern parts in particular (not counting the criminals), is in the opinion everyone in the vicinity of the volcano will die a swift pyroclastic death if the thing ever blows. He says it doesn't really matter if there's an early warning, because he refuses to believe that many people can be evacuated anywhere far enough in Italy in the kinds of time that will be available on occasion...

I keep telling him he shouldn't build his analysis on such hostile national stereotypes.

...and is it entirely legal to keep doing that in public ?

well, ive been in a lot of big town hight dense populated, and ive seen the same type of dangers related to criminality, and a lot of the same problems... if you "know" the town, you can live very well, same in other metropolis, when you are used to the chaotic, and you used to the way life go, you start to like it.
There are stranger friends from england, that have stayed for 2 years here, and are in a total love. anyway there are some very congenital problems, i dont deny that, and they are much complex and radicate in history, and that could be a very long discussion. I dont know if your brother is here for a long time, could be if he is here for long time, he can start to like it.

It depends, for example in China, i can belch in public, and there is no problem. "Country you go - Habits you find".
(in China i could do a lot of other things that in italy are strange)
the two horns finger towards the grounds are a common way to take away bad luck, it can be done also if a black cat cross the street in front of you(black cats bring bad luck!).
If im talking with a chardiologist, and the chardiologist say my granddaddy is going to die (it's just an example, he's already dead), i dont do it, but i can bet, when you go out of the chardiologist room, you do it to ground.
Same when you are between friends, if it is an informal chat with friends, and he say something brings bad luck, you can do the horns, or touch the 2 things, without problems...or even do the horns with a hand, and the other hand touch the 2 things at the same time... this is the case when you want to amplify the effect.

(we should open a thread of Antropological interest, where everyone explain the scaramantic gestures of his country... )

I doubt it. He's been here all his life, and hates the place...

Either we're referring to different private parts that come in pairs (...nostrils? ), or you decadent Latins are kinky.
hmmm... i dont understand, your brother has been here all his life, that means Finland or Campania?
    The former, naturally.
...although now that I think about it, he tends to talk about Italy in pretty positive terms overall. Something to do with the art or somesuch.
Or that's how he explains the collection of dodgy Manara works in his bookshelf, anyway...

that hs become almost a private conversation by a decadent and catholic substrate (see paganism under the voice) latin and a northern lutheran substrate (see total monotheism under the voice) finlander...

anyway i intended the 2 balls (sorry to be explicit), that is not you take away your pants and do it, it's just you do it with the trousers on, you touch the parts under the trousers... just put your hand on that part of the trousers

Actually in Greece, touching your private parts in also associated with evading bad luck.
Funny thing is that people may touch their genitalia in presence of priests particularly (to be accurate, now it's done in this particular case almost exclusively). Well, not in a church or in public but if there's a company of friends and a priest passes by, someone may do it. Priests are associated with bad luck you see
