That's meant to be like that.

The desert in the middle is a useless terrain, it's vast, dry, and overall lacking in resources. A King would not stand up and say

    'I control lots of sand!'

    It's useless, ignore.

If you search the desert for 40 days, you might find something.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken

Unless your name is Moses, I wouldn't recommend it. And, btw, THAT's forty years.

I think he was referring to Jesus.

Indeed it was a reference to Jesus' wandering the desert. And a joke, of course.

Yeah, it was a joke, but I wasn't referring to Jesus. He may have spent forty days in the wilderness being tempted by the devil, but that hardly was what I meant. My reference was to the Biblical Exodus, which resulted in forty YEARS of wandering. Enough time to cover Eremos, perhaps.
