Default STW- The good old days

Just fired up STW after 7 years...

and love it. Graphics aside, the game behaves really well, and I remember why I was attracted to the game. The battles were tough, the changes fast furious and unpredictable, and at the time there were a bunch of mods out there- my first intro to modding.

Is it just me, but does the AI act quite smart?! Its refreshing to have more than one army attacking you at the same time, and beware those units or neighboring
armies that sit and watch you duke it out, only to enter the battle at the worst possible moment! I love it

This was, and still is, a great game.

    cheers

Glad to see you're enjoying the game, mate. I don't play Shogun as often as I did when I first got it, but I still spool it up now & then (currently got a Hojo campaign that's crawling along) -- it'll always stay on my hard drive, no matter what.

Shogun's AI is generally considered to be the best out of all the Total War titles. (At the very least, I myself hold that opinion. ) I like that the computer is not only cunning in battle, but it's even fairly competent on the strategic level as well -- it seems to pretty smart about what it builds & trains, and it's pretty good at exploiting any weakness in my overall defenses (i.e., it's usually quick to invade any provinces that I've left under-defended). Call me masochistic, but I love that the AI in STW is fully capable of kicking my ass.

Well being a modder of RTW, I realize that improvement is not necessarily linear- other issues come up as the game engine becomes more complicated

but they had the balance right, for sure

Yes- you have to pay attention- nothing like suddenly getting attacked from your side of the bridge

    hehe
