Default [Trip report] Bad RAM stick, Corsair RMA process

    /rant

Welps, the topic says it all. My new beast which was acquired back in Aug 07 has been fine and stable for the most part, however starting a few months back it would crash very randomly when playing games or watching videos. I could never nail it down, until this afternoon. After a few crashes, I shut down the box for about an hour, and powering it back on gave me the dreaded long repeating beep code (it literally means OH ****), with my eVGA mobo was not posting and barfing a C1 code at me which means bad ram. After playing the swap 'n boot game for about 5 minutes, it was a definite that one of my ram sticks is bad. The system is back up and working fine now on just 1gb (I'm posting this from it here), the next bit is to see how well Corsair's RMA process is.

    /rant off

I will continue this thread with updates on my experience with them. I'd also be curious to know if anyone else in here has had any experiences with Corsair and their RMA/tech support processes.

    Good luck.

They claim a lifetime warranty here

Corsair's DRAM memory modules all carry a lifetime warranty
as long as their serial # is still intact on the stick.
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.

My PC was crashed after a power cut, mobo was having short-circuits due to those fixing screws. I spent a lot of bucks to repair it back, it took 2 months to notice that my new components were not working due to a short-circuitting. Whatevar, in the end I also discovered that one of my Twinmos RAM sticks had gone bad too. So I spent even more bucks to replace it with a Kingston.

Thanks for reminding me that beautiful summer time.

OK, small update. Corsair responded with an RMA by Tuesday morning, which was a good sign. I just shipped off the parts earlier today, and bought some cheapo DDR2 to use in the mean time. So far so good.

    MAJOR NEW DEVELOPMENTS

    (*@#$(*@%@!@#!!!!!!

Turns out not ONLY was it that RAM stick that went bad, it's my stupid motherboard! eVGA 680i A1 boxed version. Long story short, I believe that the mosfet cooling problem (that I just found out about) fried the memory controller (apparently a common problem with the Foxconn ref. designs) which in turn borked one of my RAM sticks. I just bought some temporary ram since I shipped the other stuff back, and it works almost identical to what I said previously. Both of the new sticks are good, and both will boot individually about 80% of the time in any of the slots. I cannot boot with both sticks in under any circumstances.

I am positively FUMING here. The eVGA RMA process is going to be a nightmare. Not only do I have to sign up on the website and register the product, but I have to pay for shipping both ways. Not. @#(*%@#. Pleased.
