What's really cool are the forest fires during heavy snows.

Some jerk takes the spark arrestor off the muffler of his chainsaw and then starts cutting pine that have been in a drought all summer. The things are tinder dry, the snow doesn't help at all since it's frozen and can't be absorbed. The saw shoots sparks on the branches, the needles catch fire like they're soaked in gas, and the whole tree lights goes up like a torch. The snow barely stops it because the wind fans the flames. And it always spreads if the forest is dense.

    I'll see if I have a pic.

What? I thought the only terrorist that would be intrested in attacking canada would be some very very serious /b/tards

I can imagine the filming of samas next video:

"And canada's endless supply of infidel maple syrup shall break and turn into a sea of holy fire!"

"What I thought maple syrup wasnt against the qur'an."

    "IT IS NOW!!!"

We may never know, perhaps osama's pilots were oringinally targeting the CN Tower, but then they thought: "OH **** Im not going to kill all the tourists and children in there, ok second best the Twin Towers" (They acually said worlds highest office blocks)
    Now with transparent layers!

I knew it, I knew it! Time for a US "peacekeeping" mission. I know we're something like 0 and 3 but we can do it lads.

    No.

I just know that we need to do it now. We don't attack Canada in less it's the dead of winter. It's tradition!

    Sarcastic? Bien non mom ami.

This is a pic of one of the smaller winter forest fires. If you look closely, you`ll even see the handsome doofus-goofus in the shot warming a slice of moose pizza over the fire. This blaze burnt for hours and took out hundreds of square feet of prime Quebec timberland. It was a disaster of mediocre propotions.

We Canadians are nothing if not environmental oppotunists.

Please tell me you don't still do the rape-the-land clearcutting. Not that I know we're any better mind you.

You know Canada actually consistently has a slightly higher per capita rate of violent crime than the US (Though a much lower murder rate). It's mostly a demographic difference though, and a couple of locals punching each other over the Leaf's latest loss is no reason not to visit.

As far as the list of safer countries... no comment.

They have hockey, we have guns. I can't imagine armed hockey players though.

Hockey is dangerous if there are Norwegian players on the ice, but as has been mentioned earlier, the webpage is outdated - there are currently no Norwegian ice hockey players in North America.

Assuming the stuff I learned in college a couple years ago is still current, they have a rather higher rape rate as well. I was also told that England's violent crime rate is higher than the U.S.'s, but again fewer murders.

I guess when American criminals decide to be violent, they go all out.

Beirut Well, if you're going to burn down half a forest, you might as well get something out of it.

The statistical differences between the US and Canada serve mostly (IMHO) to demonstrate the limited utility of comparing nations on those grounds. Studies that control for the essential demographic differences between the coutries (Specifically Canada's population is still largely located in rural areas, while the US's is increasingly urban) tend to even out the differential quite a lot, as you might expect. It's interesting the bits of info you pick up frequenting pro/con gun boards.

Anyway, it's pretty funny that these days if you want to find the 'Main Street USA' the History Channel seems to pine for you'll have much more luck in Canada.
