Default Baldur's Gate on vista laptop.

Well that seemed like a good idea, BG 1&2 + expansions for 10 euro, but microsoft doesn't understand I have a computer because I want to use it so it doesn't work. After crash after crash trying to install it and a 30 minute reboot after each completily random faillure it finally got to 100%, but then the piece of crap says the game requires a resolution of 640x480, obviously a vista related issue because it's vista.

    help?

Help you? Help me. Where did you find the game?

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

Thanks for the info. I don't have Vista so I'll check on-line for it. I've been wanting to play the entire campaign again.

So you're saying Vista won't run on such a low resolution? Or is it that it just picks another issue each time you play?

No matter what resolution I put my desktop on it doesn't get passed screentesting so no full install, a 10 year old computer can do it but because it's vista my laptop can't run 10 year old software. Now I have gotten used to crashes, keyboard-swapping, memory leacks and 30 minute reboots even when not having be used but if it could just do what it is made for it would be great, but sadly I have vista.

If you have both BG1 and BG2, you can use BGTutu or EasyTutu to port the content from BG1 to the BG2 engine. Works like a charm for me.

Everything I've read about Tutu is that while it works great, you WILL have an insurmountable CTD. That's with a pre-vista OS. I can't imagine what Vista will do to it.

Have you tried all compatibility modes?
They don't always help but sometimes they do.
If that doesn't help, I'd recommend using XP or an older OS for older games, I've had games that were too old for XP as well.
Yeah I know it's a bad "solution" but the resolution shouldn't be a problem either way. And 640x480...

That only works when you have already installed it.

It's most likely caused by bad video drivers. Have you checked the support page for your laptop and downloaded all the driver updates and firmware?

You can use compatibility mode to install it as well.

I've played BG1Tutu and crashing was relatively rare. Certainly not enough to avoid using Tutu, given the great improvements it brings to BG1. That was with XP, though, so I have no idea how it would react to Vista.

Can someone shed a light on that TuTu thingie ? There is a die-hard fan of BG series here who was never able to finish both of the games.

Tutu is a program that allows you to play BG1 + TotSC in the BG2 engine. This allows you to use kit classes right from the start of BG1, provides the expanded BG2 spell system, allows a higher resolution, and generally is superior in every way. I highly recommend it.

Best of all, there is a version called "EasyTutu" that does all of the complex installation work for you. All you need are your BG1 & BG2 discs (with expansion packs if you have them) and the EasyTutu download. The install program then does all the work for you. Check it out here.

There is also another system called Baldur's Gate Trilogy (BGT) that essentially does the same thing, but also makes the entire game into a seamless series. It is more complex than Tutu, but has its own advantages as well. You can find it here.

Sorry, but, eh...Does anyone know if the XP cap is still in effect under Tutu?

I can't remember if Tutu changes the XP cap itself, but there are a very large number of mods that install along with TuTu, using the 'Weidu' system, and some of them do include an XP cap remover.
