The Vizier rises, eyes ablaze
Who is the Seljuk king to refer to himself in the same breath as the most mighty Allah (his name be praised)?
Let not these blasphemous words be heard again in the court of the most noble Caliph, descended from the line of the Prophet himself, lest the Seljuks be struck down by the furious anger of heaven!
Let the Seljuks also refrain from speaking of lands which are "rightfully" theirs!
Only the munificence and wisdom of the peace-loving Caliph prevents him from claiming all the lands formerly under the protection of the Defender of the Faith, a mighty empire which stretched from Cordoba to Kabul and put even that of the Romans to shame!
Never in my long life have I heard such impertinence! Why...
The Caliph clears his throat and fixes the Vizier with a firm and meaningful gaze. The Vizier stops, and after listening to some whispered words from his master, collects himself, and continues..
The Caliph is pleased to hear that the Seljuks intend no warlike actions against the Caliphate, and will conduct private discussions with the Sultan regarding the lands east and northwest of Baghdad.
But let no man in this chamber mistake the tolerance and benevolence of the Caliph for weakness, lest he feel the righteous wrath of the Prince of the Two Seas.
