Thread: Kava. Real imported Kava root from the Pacific.

Default Kava. Real imported Kava root from the Pacific.

I'm curious if there is anyone out there at the Org who has tried Kava before. I'm not talking about your GNC variety extract. I'm talking about real Kava from Vanuatu.

If not, I'll let you know how it goes.

    I ordered this:

    http://www.realkava.com/vanuatu_kava.html

    The roots are already ground.

Your thoughts and feedback are appreciated...

I won't get a chance to give it a go until the 2nd. I've heard that the first few times may not offer me anything. I've read that the kavalactones need to build up in the body before any real quality effect occurs.

So what's the high like? Is it similar to drinking alcohol?

That's what I am interested in finding out. I don't drink like I used to, and now a couple drinks just makes me want to sleep. I'm sure as hell not going to do anything illegal.

This seems like a truly legitimate and legal alternative.

Lemur, there is plenty of research on the web amigo. I know as much as you at this point. Erowid has some experiences, but many individuals who frequent erowid mix substances.

It's supposed to be a very mellow lazy high, without the cloudy head. I'll find out soon enough. I have a pound of it sitting at home right now waiting for me to get back from the station.

More like Alice B. Toklas brownies of the 70's. Mildly tranq'ing. Was popular with my Samoan neighbors (who grew their own) back 30 years ago.

I'll offer my take on it tomorrow or near enough.

Do tell DA, I'm anxious to hear. I did some reading on it, and it sounds like really good stuff.

Unhappy Re: Kava. Real imported Kava root from the Pacific.

Okay. I drank about 5 shells (6-8 oz each), with 5-15 minutes in between each shell.

I used the blender method of mixing and then strained the mix through a pasta strainer to keep the roughage out. The drink is still filled with thick root powder.

It tastes... horrible. The experience of drinking this is not at all pleasant. However, I am determined, so I keep going.I gag occasionally at the horrid taste and texture.

After 2 shells I feel different. A touch relaxed, like everything is in slow motion. Nothing dramatic, but noticeable. After 4 shells I feel lazy and weighed down. I want to sit. It's a little like being stoned without all of the psychotic mental effects of marijuana.

After 5 shells, I don't want anymore Kava. My eyelids want to close out the light. I feel a bit sleepy. I feel lethargic and care-free.

My mind does it's usual thing and drifts to one of the subjects that have been concerning me, and the Kava turns it off. Mid-thought, my brain says, "I don't care. Whatever."

I was a touch sick to my stomach because I drank this on an empty stomach, which is what one is supposed to do. After I ate something I feel better.

It has been almost three hours since drinking the Kava and I still feel the effects. I am stoned without being mentally stoned. I am just slowed down. I just want to kick it and chill out. I am definately light-sensitive, so I can see why peope drink this in the late afternoon.

Overall, I am impressed that something else exists which actually has a depressant effect.

It does not have the intensity of marijuana or alcohol, because mentally I feel normal. I retain complete control, but for a lack of concern.

This stuff does indeed work. Pretty cool.

Kava tastes like dirty potatoe water.

The "high" is more like a numbing sensation. I was drinking it with a few of the Fijians in my rugby team and so it is as authentic as it gets.

After a few bowls I felt fine (as in clear headed) but then I went to talk toone of my mates and talked like I had just been to the dentist and my mouth was very numb.

Good times and yes you do sleep like a baby that night.

I drank too much. I was wiped out all day and ended up throwing up. I think I will drink less and slower next time.

    I'm down.

How much did you order? A half pound or a pound?

I ordered the one pound bag.

A half cup of ground kava will get you 4 strong servings.

I think it's a good value. And now my pop is interested in giving it a try.

I recommend drinking no more than 4 shells. I think I will probably only drink 3 next time. And prepare it using the cloth dipping method, NOT the blender. The roughage made me sick.

    Enjoy!

And people pay for this stuff? If I want to feel that way I'll eat potato chips and watch Science channel. Do people really need an excuse to be lazy?

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

And I love Red Bull. Go figure. I guess I just like a boost one way or the other.

I'll give it a round two tomorrow night and share some feedback. Ice, let me know how your experience goes. I recommend the company I used simply because it was very potent and it came quickly.

I'll order it in a few weeks when I return from Spring Break. I don't feel like trying to explain to my parents what it is.
