America had a lot more troops than the colonial forces at the beginning of the war, and were defeated by Brock and Sheaffe. However, later in the war the battles went back and forth (the problem with Canadian teaching - from my experience, this was rarely taught in history classes - only the, admittedly major, victories at the beginning are).
