Default When I take Hierosolyma with one of the Hellenic/Diadochi factions...

And I burn the Jewish temple down, does that make me a good role-player or utterly anti-semitic?

When I play as Koinon Hellenon, and I set sail for another Hellenic city, and when leaving Athenai, I burn the Pergamon, am I being disrespectful for the Gods, or do I disallow the Makedonians to defile that sacred place?

As I heard a guy here in once say: "EB is best played when role-playing"

I for one, moved my faction leader from Ekbatana to Hierosolyma, and he had the trait "Royal Coin something", which states he makes coins that picture him as divine, etc. I roleplayed how he looted and destroyed the Jewish Temple and used the gold and silver stored inside to mint his coins?

How do you use this kind of role-play in EB?

Not unless you let them revolt, then you besiege it, then you leave, and then you come back and build the colliseum in Rome.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

Well I'm not sure if that's the best roleplaying, simply because burning down the Jewish Temple isn't the best way to pacify the population, whihc I'm sure would have been the first concern of any conqueror... Personally I would have waited and if they revolted, goodbye temple. Then again, the coin idea was clever, I always tend to exterminate the city when my general has the Bloodthirst trait.

I haven't played a Hellenic faction that has Hierosolyma, but I have taken it as the Hai, the Sabeans and Sauromatae. Since the Hai and Saba can recruit Jewish Spearmen, I repair or let the temple be as a sign of goodwill. Also, since the temple gives a nice 10% law bonus (at least for who I played as) it can cut down on corruption.

When I destroy a religious wonder (usually one lacking in benefits,) I try to use the proceeds to build temples to my own gods, (usually to the evilest sounding one ). You could consider "destroying" a religious wonder as claiming the relics inside as your own (or just moving them somewhere else.)

When I conquered Rome as Carthage, I destroyed both their max. level temple of Jupiter and also the unique building temple of Jupiter. And everything else of course. I consider that roleplaying.

I don´t ever destroy unique buildings, I just like reading their descriptions to much. Though whenever I take Kart-Hadast as Romani I always exterminate the city and then destroy every building in it. You just have to.

I don't come here a lot any more. You know why? Because you suck. That's right, I'm talking to you. Your annoying attitude, bad grammar, illogical arguments, false beliefs and pathetic attempts at humour have driven me and many other nice people from this forum. You should feel ashamed. Report here at once to recieve your punishment. Scumbag.

If you are a great conquer like Alex, probably you wont burn the temple of Solomon, even if the jews revolt against you. The romans burned down the temple after the great jewish rebellion, it is said that Titus Vespesianus burned it down so that the jews will forget and cry for their misfortune. In my opinion any other superpower would behave the same if its power is challenged by a rebellion on a major scale.

    Cheers.

I destroy factions I don't like ( =Romans and nobody else ). But then again, Babylonians destroyed the first temple of Jerusalem, and since they are my greatest idols when making my Mesopotamian empire, it would kinda make sense to copy them there. Think I'll do it in the next game ;)
Moreover, I advise that Syracusans must be added to EB (insp. by Cato the Elder )

Is looking forward to the 2090's, when EB 20.0 will be released - spanning the entire Eurasian continent and having no Eleutheroi - with a faction for every independent state instead. Look out for the Gedrosians, the Cretans and the kingdom of Kallatis!

Yeah well, a lot of folks who didn't have anything to do with it one way or the other are "here" too... And depending on how you count, the Romans stuck around until the 1400s and the curtains of Byzantium.

Personally I'm more inclined to blame Persian badassery for what befell the Babylonians for that matter (ie. a regime change).

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

I depends on how rebellious the Jews are, or how cash-strapped you are. If you have any reason to burn it down, don't hold back--the real-life Hellenistic and Roman rulers didn't either.

Oh, and for pet peeves value, you're not a full anti-Semite unless you're also into exterminating Phoenicians, Arabs, Sabaeans and their ilk.

I burned the heliopolis thingy in Damaskos I think, as Pahlava, because I had really big economical problems at one point (and had to abandon the city that turn), but I haven't burnt any other monuments IIRC. I like to be respectful of local temples. Exterminating, on the other hand, is the only way the engine allows you to hold any city at all that you conquered after more than 50-100 turns into the game...

This, along with the whole quinquix and Hast/Pri/tri thing is why I don't like playing the Romans.

    Roleplaying them gets old.

Have you ever tried being nice as them?
You know, only take nearby rebel towns and never do anything that might offend anybody, and whenever your attacked just wear the enemy out and try to get them to accept a ceasefire. Really, it can be quite fun.

This is how I usually play all factions. IE-Building up the best possible empire, then rapidly conquer an area, then build up...etc.
