Polish retainers. You have to wait for them and than they are useless once you can build them. To beef them up a little you do not have to wait until the Xpack though, just manually adjust their stats, cost, build period etc.

They are woefully ineffective at the time being.
Why have them when you can have Feudal Knights or Chivalric Knights instead?
They are the same as Armenian Heavy Cav with the difference of not being available in Early. The Arm cav are not even that good, just easily obtainable and have a bonus. The Polish Retainers don't even have that.
Make them Early at the very least.

Early spearunit they realy suck, they cant even beat a light cav attacking/defending downhill.
And then ofcus the beloved vikings a better attack and/or better defens

Personally, I would like to see the Kataphraktoi have use of a compound bow as a secondary weapon but that is most unlikely. And instead of a lance how bout a nice thick iron mace for crushing the skulls of peasants?
For a Russian elite unit might I suggest something similar to a Varangian guard? After all it was the Russians who gave Byzantium their Varangian guards so I think a Russian beserker unit might be cool.

They would be very interesting as a shock infantry unit, their fanatic lust for blood and fighting means that the Ghazi infantry would get their crap kicked out of them.
A fearsome infantry viking unit that doesn't need to be big, I'd say a default size of 20 is adequate considering the fear they put in their enemies and their fighting skills bordering on the insane and the brutal.
Instead of Halberdiers how bout a unique Russian halberd unit who carry polearms like an Urban Militia does but more deadly.

Improve the archers, particularly the longbowmwn. All archers need improvements in range and effectiveness of volley. Archers need to be able to reload from a nearby wagon or cart or have a fixed number of reloads available.
lol.. it looks like people want horse archer that shoot when moving... too bad CA prolly wont see this. but i think with the current code it may be hard to do, all the units have to stop momentarily to do anytthing, its to do with the animations

Apart from all the units and things every1 else has said so far which i agree with...1 unit id like to see improved would be the ballista. The romans used this weapon to such an effect that any roman soldier could be trained to fire this weapon accurately. I have read stories about how they used the ballista to pick off individual targets at a huge range. So why is it that u cant hit a whole unit of 100 spearmen from 10 yards?? Make them better...plz

Oh yeah a Russian beserker unit would do just fine, as long as byzantines can get them too just like the Russian can get Bulgarian brigands - they'll be room for Varangian guards its just that a varangian beserker combo would be nice.
I think beserkers should have a fear bonus against every unit because they're simply...........well.......beserkers

one thing i would like to see is grape shot for the catapaults, trebs and mangonels.
eg instead of one massive boulder have 5 smaller boulders.
you have the option of big or small boulders so the seige weapons are still good for castle walls.
it would be good if one launch could kill between 2 - 9 soliders if it landed in the middle of a formation instead of at the moment where you are lucky if you kill one or two.
that way catapault etc would become useful as anti personel weapons.
and i would like catapults to be able to move, albeit very slowly. they have wheels they can turn so why cant they move ?
