Well this is kinda intresting, why would bush not have a fair and open chat with the troops and let them ask and answer freely what ever they want.

'Shrubs' obviously had a pointer or two from his buddy Bliar. Bliar won't let 'ordinary' people anywhere near him, never mind ask him a question that Bliar did'n't approve of first.
It's the way poitics has gone over the last decade or so. As long as people allow this to take place without sanction (ie dont elect these lying liars) then things will only get more rehearsed and spun......
I fear for the future.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

I don't get it , where is the rest of the footage of them being "schooled" ?
GC it seems to be , unless someone can provide full details of the briefing that show otherwise , completely different from those other cases you mention .

Still, this is one of the sure signs that western civilization is on a severe decline, and we are headed for a serious dark age.
Lets see the Pentagon spokesperson was telling the troops what questions President Bush was going to ask them. Now how is that a bad thing? Hell there was even a joke about if the President or a servicemember begins to stutter the Captain was to grap the mike and begin to sing. Now that was funny - and it took the Captain about a second to get the joke.
THe media question part was just funny.
O well, seems like 'some' people decide to ruin a perfectly valid threat. Nice going guys... doc bean
This kind of thing is hardly new. Other politicians do the same thing all the time, although mostly more carefully than Bush. It's just an unfortunate side effect of the media becoming a more and more dominating factor for polticians to keep in mind, keeping PR good practically demands staging these kind of things. Particularly if the politician in question is someone like Bush, who isn't at his best when it comes to improvising; he does seem to be somewhat overreliant on things being staged though.
Wasn't that because of the time it took to transmit the video and audio?Originally Posted by Redleg

Check out my poll on liberal media bias. This thread is a perfect example of how people just take the crap that the news media machine feeds them without any critical thinking at all.
Probably but I thought I heard him stutter just a little before his comment.

It was billed as spontaneous, yet the actual questions the President would ask were rehearsed.
This Administation uses the military as theatrical prop for its political messages to an extent that is just nauseating.
Rome Total War, it's not a game, it's a do-it-yourself project.
I listened to a behind the scenes recording of the rehearsal on NPR and they totally reviewed the questions and decided who would answer them. This was very lame and could have been really interesting if it were candid.Originally Posted by Red Harvest

canned and screened town hall meetings are one thing (and not a good thing) but in the case of the military, it's not uncommon to over-organize for anything.
to the civilian population, this can all seem very odd and suspicious, and maybe in this case it is. but most likely not. especially in the light of counter-articles like the NYT one that explain the process and event; so no one is being kept in the dark about it all (except maybe the prez.)

Yes perfect , it is really illustrated by comments such as...

.....seems like some real absense of critical thinking to me , and a complete willingness to believe any crap the media puts out .

Now instead of saying its an absense of critical thinking - try showing where that is a bad thing - or in your words an absense of critical thinking.
What I saw of the clip was pretty standard for the military back in the 1990s. So saying this is an examble of Bush being dishonest with the Media - is just a reach in my opinion.

Ah poor Red , two nations divided by a common language and a very different sense of humour
Try reading again what I wrote , in the context of the quotes that I took from various posters in this thread
I tried - the context of how you stated it does not make sense to me. But then I could be just over tired from working basically 12 hour days for the last 3 weeks because of our production schedule. When I get this tired my ability to think because soley black and white when reading. Hell I am not even reading anything important this week because of that - or for that matter no trash fiction - known also as Sci-Fi.Originally Posted by Tribesman

Why is it so hard for you to accept that he does? Why is it so hard for you guys (Redleg and DA) to accept that Bush doesn't care about the American people?
No he shouldnt. Thats what the job of the press is. But its also supposed to be fair and truthful. Unfourtunatly the press has its own agenda. Talk about lying to the people.A leader should not be able to get away with lying and decieving the people he's supposed to lead,
Could say the same of yours.and it's comments like yours that allow such crap to continue.

Find an examble better then this one and I might agree with you - however this examble doesn't pass the common sense test having served in the military and watching things just like this occur several times. Under President Bush Sr. and President Clinton. Like I said nothing new - nothing strange - nothing to what your attempting to allude to concerning this exambleOriginally Posted by Gelatinous Cube
