Brazil were good but only because Spain allowed them to be. It's funny, it seems that what happened to Spain was very similar to what happened to Barca and Real against the Germans. Too long a season I think. And no doubt not helped by going to penalties in the semis with Brazilian temperatures.

ye, spain didnt seem to take it too serious... and brazil had to win ofcourse XD football is political.

You suspect foul play?

no not really, but i wouldnt be surprised if it turned out to be so. i think spain never really tried.

Don't be silly, FIFA would never do anything dodgy, and any accusations would be thoroughly investigated by their ethics team.

A backroom post reminded me of a question I had. SFTS is with futbol as I was prior to having kids play the sport. I'm still not much removed from that. In my neighborhood the competitive teams get coaching assistance from paid Brits. In a neighborhood 20 miles away is a youth complex with over 40 fields. HUGE money put in this place. Tons of kids with all the finest gear available playing 10 months of the year. No doubt imo that this sport will someday be almost as popular in the U.S. as the NBA, especially as the NFL slowly dies.
To the question - Is A S Roma a great team? Is it a poor reflection on U.S. players that they lost so badly to them? I'm reminded of Olympic basketball back when the US fielded college players who had worked together very little while some other countries were basically using pros who played together everyday. Is the score simply a reflection of the US players not working together ever?
How do the EPL teams compare with A S Roma? Was the Chelsea win a fluke? Are the ManU wins results of an all star team that doesn't play together also?Last July, the MLS all-stars downed Chelsea FC of the English Premier League. But they were outclassed by Manchester United the two years before that, falling 5-2 and 4-0
Opinions on these questions appreciated. Thank You.
"The good man is the man who, no matter how morally unworthy he has been, is moving to become better."
John Dewey
A lot of factors come into play that skew the result.
- Desire. The All Stars really want to prove themselves in this game, sometimes the Euro club team doesn't take it that seriously. Since Bradley plays for Roma, he might have gotten them motivated for the game.
- Don't think of the All Stars as "US" players, they are MLS players. The quality of the league is getting better, but the financial constraints imposed (correctly) by the league means the MLS will not have the very best.
- Chemistry. Not playing together hurts, we also see this every four years at the World Cup. The best club teams play better than the best international sides.
- The flip side to Chemistry is fitness. The MLS players are in the middle of their season, while the Euro club teams are coming off their vacation.
So the answer of who wins the game is: "it depends". If the club side is serious about it, they should win, if not they can lose. But I love the All Star format, it makes for a better game than East v. West, gives the MLS players motivation to play well (maybe get scouted), and you get a big European team to tour the country. MLS is getting better, I'm pretty sure the financials are sound and the quality of play has improved significantly. It helps the USMNT get better since the players aren't just riding the bench in Europe, and I think it's helping the other CONCACAF teams improve their players as well. Having a second big league (with Liga MX) in the region can only be a good thing.
Kid's soccer has been big in this country since the 70's but until recently most kids stopped playing in high school. Football (gridiron) rules high school sports, in a very unhealthy manner in some areas. Not just concussions, but school funding and other shenanigans. But now we have lots of regional club soccer teams, and the MLS teams have been funding academies and scouting young players. It's just a matter of time, which is why the MLS is taking things slowly. We don't need a repeat of the NASL.

Roma came 6th in the Serie A last season, they were losing finalists in the Italian Cup, and I think they had a poor run in the continental competition this year but usually they do quite well (tho they never are serious contenders. For the Serie A i think they are possible contenders every season although more likely not to win than to win. They have been in the top of the italian league and top of europe for some years now I think. Thus probably they would be champions in the USA. They are nothing special in europe tho, but still a solid team to be reckoned with.
Friendlies dont really mean much imo, germany lost 4-3 to usa this year (which im still very sad about) but im 99% sure that this never wouldve happened in the world cup.
Drone summed the rest up pretty nice. USA is moving forward!

I'm hoping a photographer got a picture of Giroud after he heard the Ozil news, but before he wiped the drool from his lips. He should have a career year with that midfield feeding him.

What. A. Signing.
Yeah. Now that Ozil signed, there are only 10 mediocre players in Arsenal's starting 11.
Just kidding, I like Wenger's style, but he still needs players.
Seems that Moyes won't be able to handle Man Utd.
And Ozil so far has proven to be a top notch signing, as was expected.
PSG - Monaco on Sunday, should be an interesting matchup.

And Arsenal is top of the table.
Ramsey and Ozil are top notch.

It'd be quite a surprise. Especially with Liverpool doing great as well. Or is it that both Manchesters and Chelsea are just under performing? Probably a tad of both.

Reminded me of this, before Arsenal signed Magic Mesut.

That side flick to Giroud is sensational.
Arsenal - Dortmund on Tuesday is going to be one heck of a match.

Yea the Monday Night Football game is..... oh, wrong football.
If you are watching the Giants-Vikings game, you are not making good life choices.
Giroud has been great, even if his scoring has dropped off since the start. His cross to Ozil was a thing of beauty. Hopefully Flamini won't be out too long, his attitude is needed, especially with the slate of games coming up.

Jack Wilshere's goal yesterday was so good, it was uploaded on Pornhub. http://t.co/AjTK21iKvO
Özil is a fantastic player!. Sometimes he lacks concentration/domination in real "big point" games (I can tell as Werder Bremen fan, hehe). One was able to see this in yesterday´s first half. Well, Dortmund has a strong team. Mickytharian (sp?) is a good replacement for Götze. Aubamayang will get (even) better and in case Levandovski stays it is one of the most dangerous offensives in Europe.
O.k.: time to provoce the experts; I think the Bundesliga has (at the moment!!!) overtaken the Premier League and the Primera Division in a lot of fields like the attractiveness of games, the excitement of the league, the treatment of the fans by their club/association.... What do you think?

I don't think there is a huge amount of strength outside the big 2, it's more like Spain than England in that regard, thought the gulf isn't quite as bad as the Real/Barca vs the rest in Spain. Certainly Dormund's performance against Arsenal indicates the best of Germany are stronger than the lower spectrum of the top clubs in England, Schalke's result against Chelsea would indicate the rest are quite away off England's best.
AAAAJAAAAAXXX!!! omg why did they tie vs ac milan :/ such undeserved penalty.
