Thread: Celtic recruitment areas

    Default Celtic recruitment areas

I made this map a while back, originally intended to show a lot more like regionals but dont have the time or motivation to finish them. They show the units recruitable in faction mic's as well as the largest ports and locations of mines. Units in red are recruitable but the mic level is unbuildable by your faction in that province.

They're a bit big but like I said I intended to put more on them and resizing them would be a pain. Also the units arent sorted by reforms or anything, you'll have to suss that out yerself.

    updates maps with regionals:

That would have been tremendously useful early on in my Celtic campaigns.

I'm surprised the Graeco-Celtic guys aren't a bit more widely available, like the German ones which are recruitable all over modern Germany.

Graeco-Celts? Do you mean the Mori Gaesum?

I'm pretty surprised that the Solduros are so widely available, I thought they were exclusive for Aquitine.

EDIT: and the Arjoz in only one province?

    Great work Casuir!!

Looks like those Belgae Milnaht above the Beglae were missed. Hope the EB guys can sort that out when they get a chance.

I mean the spearmen with the white shields. They're about as powerful as Gaeliche, and are supposed to be some GraecoCeltic hybrid.

Gah. I was going to point out a couple territories on the map with them so you could see a pic, but my internet connection's acting up. I can't load the map right now.

Edit: Ha! Got it. You can see them in those two territories to the right of Aventivcs(where the Mori Gaesum are recruited). White tunics, leather vest, white shield.

    Question Re: Celtic recruitment areas

Does the fact that units marked with red are unbuildable due to the fact that the correct MIC level is unreachable mean that the best goidilic units cannot be recruited in Ireland? (I.e. the Déaisbard only in Emain Macha and the Uachtarach DuboGaiscaocha nowhere at all) This seems a little wasteful, having cool units that cannot be recruited by any faction. Or is there some other way to get them, as mercenaries, etc? (Haven't seen them as mercenaries in my Casse campaign, but perhaps they can appear? Haven't had the first reforms yet, but do mercenaries require them?) Those units are so cool, I could expand more slowly so that I could get the reforms before I reach the victory conditions, but this is obviously not a good idea if I cannot get them anyway.

Mercenaries don't require reforms, so if they aren't present already, you won't get them. I do recall Aymar mentioning that the Uachtarach DuboGaiscaocha should be recruitable as mercenaries, but I doubt that since that would make them the only level-5 mercenary unit.

Does this mean that they are not available at all in the current EB version? They look so cool, I would definitely want to try them out, but if not, well, what can you do... I almost hope the map is wrong...

You can recruit them in custom battles, and you can mod the game to make them buildable, but you cannot get them in the normal campaign.

There are some Celtic / Goidilic units that require you to take over a settlement from a different faction than the Eleutheroi. For example, certain units are available to the Casse if they have level mic 4 or 5 in certain regions. But. They can't build such barracks themselves due to government limitations. However. The Aedui or Arverni can. I think you get the point by now.

    Perhaps something similar applies?

True. If the Eleutheroi build a level 5 MIC, and you take over the city as a Celtic faction, then you should be able to recruit them. I have never seen the Eleutheroi tech-up that far, though.

Well, the Uachtarach DuboGaiscaocha are available in a normal campaign, but only for the Lusotanni, not for the celtic factions.

They used to back in .74 and .80. As well as build massive stacks of crappy troops.

Now the Eleutheroi don't tech up, and don't train new troops. They just stay chilling.... The AI takes forever to take an Eleutheroi town because generaly its tries to match the number Eleutheroi troops in the town.

HOWEVER, if u take over an Aedui or Arverni settlement u will be able to train troops. Also if they have build Regional MICs you will be able to use those as well. (u playing as Casse)
