Thread: Faction Selection Screen!

  1. #1

    Default Faction Selection Screen!

I have unlocked all the factions and they are now playable. When you start an Imperial Campaign and are selecting a faction you click on a symbol and a description of that faction and its starting place on the map in color come up. Where are the description and map files located and what .txt file is calling them when you click a choice? Also anyone know what program edits/looks at .CAS files?

I wondered this too. So I will try to dig it up in the text files. Because (probably as you want) I want to add text to the normally non-playable factions and a good map instead of the 'normal' map. Strangely, 2 factions (the Macedonians and one other, can't remember which) already have text for them, but not a detailed map.
Looks like they wanted to add the factions as a patch later on to encourage late buyers?

    Pontus is the other.
"Sit now there, and look out upon the lands where evil and despair shall come to those whom thou lovest. Thou hast dared to mock me, and to question the power of Melkor, master of the fates of Arda. Therefore with my eyes thou shalt see, and with my ears thou shalt hear; and never shall thou move from this place until all is fulfilled unto its bitter end". -Tolkien

Okay I found the pictures in the following directory
    ~~\Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

Now it has 2 generic maps:
    radar_map1 and radar_map2

The description for the 3 roman factions are in the dir as well (description_julii.txt; description_brutii.txt, description_scipii.txt), but not the others. Not even the unlockable ones.
So we need to find the txt which references which picture to use and the txt with the descriptions for unlockable factions.

Doh! I just found out which txt files we needed.
But looks like somebody already did it... and very good too.

I don't have an account on the .net (I'd like to keep to 1 forum per game... makes it convenient). So I can't reply there. I have a few questions.

    1. At first I thought it was maybe because I edited it wrong, but now that that mod does it too, I'm wondering: does anybody else have the option of choosing a "provincial campaign" in the campaign selection menu. So not when you already selected "imperial campaign" but before that, in the list of Prologue, imperial campiagn, historical battles etc. After modifying to play all factions I got a "Provincial campign" option there. But when I click it, it shows a picture and some buttons, but everything else is missing. Maybe this is for the expansion?
Anybody else who modded to play all factions have this?

    2. In the mod over at the .net they don't talk about this file
    ~\Rome - Total War\Data\lookup_campaign_descriptions.txt
While there it lists all the campaigns and all. Now the mod works without altering this file. So what is this file for? Should it ever be altered?

Lastly, I would like to ask anyone who knows about the history of the factions who don't have a description to post it here or at the .net. I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate it!

And if Luvian reads this board: many thanks! great mod!
