    Post Anyone else feeling inspired?

It's funny how EB inspires people to do different things. Anyways after seeing the picture used for EB in the 2006 polls i was inspired.

A little rushed but no excuses aye?

If anyone else is feeling inspired feel free to add the fruits of your labour also. May the muses bless you all.

That's funny i drew this using a pencil lodged in my belly button. jokes. Doesn't have to be a picture though-- feel free to add song lyrics, fictional writing, photos of yourself leaping for joy after a heroic victory-- anything EB made you do (that is constructive that is )

Really nice. Looks to me like he has a "resigned" face and is preparing for battle maybe thinking "Here we go again".

Nice drawing. I always have nothing but respect for people who can create pictures with pencils. I suck at painting, drawing ect though. Cannot even draw a ball.

Yes, I agree! I think the picture is really cool, facial expression especially. If you have any more inspirations, please post them too (or maybe even write an AAR with it mixed with screen shots! wow, that would be awesome...)

Well, EB inspired me to go to my uni library and to read a lot about the successor states (an unusual behaviour for a business student )

Lovely picture. Really. Now, if you could do some wallpapers like that... that would be sweet. (Or was that asking too much? )

I would do it myself, but I draw like a 4 year old... that is to say, not good.

    Nice.

We have a few other unit images like the parthian cataphract we showed on the 0.8 release image, but the artist, discoskull, just totally disappeared one day (hasn't visited forums again or responded to emails). Very unexpected. We really were excited about seeing more units and using them for our publicity images and doing wallpapers and loading screens of full battles too even. The four we have are better than nothing for sure, but we're all quite sad to lose out on getting many more.

Oh, that`s too bad, since his work was simply breathtaking...

If he lives on the southern hemisphere, he may be on summer-vacations, usually a lot of people take them after new year, in order to unite their vacations with the new-year and christmas days... thus having a longer period...

    Cheers!!!

How did you draw that? Just pencil n scan, or did you also use software?

In any case, the drawing is quite simply, awesome!

Just pencil, scan and coloured in photoshop. I decided to monochrome it at the last second as it looked too cartoony with bright colours.

Cheers for the positive response guys.

Oh and yeah i was going for the average weary soldier look.

I want EB: The Comic Book starring checkerpants man!

    Another scene;

"Iet ies taim to show zese Roman zcum ze power of Carzage! Load ze catapults and fire ze flamink piegs!"

    Pigs: "Oink, oink, oink!"

Soldiers: "Ze catapult iz loaded Zjeneral!"

General: " Alright, now fire ze flamink piegs!"

    Pigs: "Oink, oink, SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE....!!!!!"

    -----------------------------------

*On the wall of the Roman town*

Marcus: "...And then I said "Well, I can show my other gladius too, if ya know what I mean!"

Publius: *chuckles*....Hmmm, what's that? Hey, do you hear that too?"

Marcus: "By Jove, the Carthaginians, they are catapulting flaming pigs at us! Everybody hit the deck!"

    Pig: " SQEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

    Publius: "Aaaaaaaaaaaggghhh*SPLATSJ!*

Marcus: "By Hera's boobs, they got Publius!"

    And a little celtic poetry as well;

    The Fall of Dumnorix

    Dumnorix was a Celtic king.
Of him the harpers sadly sing:
the last whose realm was fair and free
between the Great Alps and the Sea.

His sword was long, his lance was keen,
    his bright mustache afar was seen;
the countless stars of heaven's lair
were mirrored in his dandruff'd hair.

But long ago he fell in battle
when he crush'd a legion with great mettle
For he was dancing a victory jig
when he got hit by a burning pig

The song goes on for another 350 verses, most of them dealing with pork chops. Tis a sad song really and one of the finest examples of Celtic poetry.

Today has been one of the most boring sundays ever (0.81 where are you?), so i toyed with gimp a bit. Here´s my close-up version of a hypaspistai (fighting in the little known, but hard fought Battle of Perspective )

btw, does anyone know a good guide for gimp (especially for drawings)?

Very nice stuff gents. I'll contribute some poetry when I find it.

    Edit: here it is

Thrown together in about five minutes
There was a time, long ago
When all the world was robed in snow
and Pyrrhos of the Epeirotes - a one-man royal show
who dared to face the world, and let the Dacians know
exactly who was in command, he thought himself a God
but when the battle reached an end, his steed, all iron-shod
was eaten by the carrion birds, and he was in the sod
of Ambrakia of old, smitten by the iron rod
of Dizo per Rekidava, a Dacian of repute
Twelve thousand men for coin, six thousand more for loot
Followed him and killed with blade and blood-soaked boot
Sixty thousand Epeirotes, with arms and shields to suit
the gods themselves, Four thousand of the Hetaroi,
Their lances tipped with frost, ten thousand Pezhetaroi,
Armed with demon spear, twelve thousand Deuteroi,
Twenty thousand peltastai, spared no cost. The Indikoi,
Elephants, as in legends, towered above the fields,
And the men who wield a bow which a mountain sheperd wields,
Innumerable Taxeis, cowering behind their shields,
But despite his vast power, Pyrrhos finally yields.
He meets the might of Dacia, where the forest's thick and deep
Like towering lions, his men charge uphill, like mice they creep
Back down again, too few, and far too few find sleep
Again, harried by the lance and sword, a nation's widows weep
Pyrrhos had launched himself, like some Antiochus
Into the thick of battle, amidst the fuss
He caught a fatal blow, the unruly cuss
Of a falx which tore him to the bone
    And from his horse, alone
The might of Greece died in his mountains

Completely different from your previous drawing. Looks amazing for just a rough sketch...did you use anything of what I told you?

Good one, Belail, liked yours very much. It`s... different.

Perhaps drawing a celt, happily in battle, with some heads hanging from his waist, gives you something to think about how their minds worked back then. It`s something like the opposite of the warrior that Caratacos drawed.

Even more, why not instead of drawing a levy, hopelessly drawn into combat, because of an inexorable whim of destiny, and also instead of drawing the traditional pictures of the gasaetae and wodânâwûlfoz as berserk warriors, why doesn`t someone draw a celt that enjoys beign into a battle and killing just for the pleasure of killing?. Like if a campaign would be a big summer excursion with your mates, to have the ultimate fun in a battle... like the most happy of days.

Something like Belail drawed. Instead of feelings of sorrow, or feelings of pure anger, perhaps some joy.

Perhaps it`s sick to think that of a battle, maybe... well, who isn`t in some way...

    Great drawings!!!!
    Cheers!!!

PS: Belail, your warrior has got no balls.

Great stuff y'all. Off k_raso's idea, it'd be great to see a warrior with a severed head, carried by its hair, in the warrior's teeth as he goes after another one. Inspiration for that idea comes from Trajan's column
"The mere statement of fact, though it may excite our interest, is of no benefit to us, but when the knowledge of the cause is added, then the study of history becomes fruitful." -Polybios

Its about time to revive this thread.

I made this a couple of days ago (started as a simple sketch but winded up as my wallpaper) and why not share with my fellow .orgas?
