    TAKE NOTICE OF THESE THINGS
    1. I am quite new with this so things WILL change as i come to see new ways of doing them. I also have not really written anything in about 3-4 years so it may take me a while to shake out the cobwebs, even after i do i will not be as gripping a story-teller as has already been seen in other AAR's, what i cannot do in story-telling i will try to accomplish by good pictures and details(i will be trying to work in some in-depth RP but it's kind of hard for me when i'm already at war with everyone, but it will come).
2.FOR BEST EXPERIENCE LINK TO THE DIFFERENT CHAPTERS IN THE TABLE OF CONTENTS each chapter is approximately 2 years in length(the section names under the chapters dont look like links but they are, WARNING: if you get motion sick dont watch it scroll to your section as it goes really fast)[/B]
3.At the end of each section is a link back to the table of contents, or if you want to continue to the next section just scroll down to it.
    4. I've made the decision to put each section in spoilers to help out any friends with less than speedy connections, i think doing each section in spoilers will be much better than doing each picture.

    Default Background Continued

    .

So i have been playing this Campaign and i am currently in 192bc.
    RULES:

    1. Only a city with a governor can build anything.

    2. An attacking or defending army must always be led by a family member. Troop shuffling and resupply need not be general'd. As well as in case of emergency a captain may be used in defense of a city.

    3. Roleplay different generals, ie. army makeup, formation, battlefield actions.

    3. I will never break an alliance (at the moment i have no allies)

    4. Always have a different ethnicity rule over the KH every time a new leader is needed, this new ruler will have his home region become the capital for the length of his term.

I am going to start out with the background, as has been posted on the progression thread.

    BACKGROUND Pt. 1
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

in this one i didnt start with pics til late (239) this is KH VH/H. the Maks were quickly pushed off the mainland by Epe/KH. Mak left with one province(Mity.) and given a ceasefire by me. when we join up Helik rebelled from AS a couple years ago and came to me. I began to push around southern Asia Minor taking AS provinces and allowing the Maks to take a few NW AM provinces from the rebels. Then in 239 those darn dirty Maks allied with AS and attacked my provinces with large stacks. Between 239 and 236 the AS/Mak alliance pushed me back totally off mainland AM for a turn or two and cost me 3 family members! darn you treacherous Maks, no more mercy given to you! Two large amphibious forces landed in Helik. and Mity. The Makedonians were utterly destroyed and AS pushed back from 236-230. The Carthaginians have pushed hard into Rome and as you see they eventually become a monster in the west. Lusotanna secured Iberia and Carthage has been so busy with central eu that they have left Iberia alone. Around the 230 screen you can really see the powers emerging that have stayed large this game. Lusot, Carth, Seleu, Epe, Swe, Ptol, and KH are the big players here, the Ptol were getting a beat down by Seleu so some KH help came in the way of espionage units. 221 the powers get more developed as they swallow up the weaker factions around them. KH(me) launched an expedition into the coastal areas of Seleucid hopeing to draw attention away from AM. By 211 the expedition turned into a full on invasion as AS clumsily shifted troops. At 211 the treacherous Epe betrayed their alliance with me(not a good idea as they are being whooped by Carth to the west) but they did nonetheless. between 211 and 207 the worst treachery of them all came about as the Ptol. signed a ceasefire with AS and by 208 they have attacked me having a de facto alliance with AS. 207 Lusotanna seems to be at the peak of its power stretching all the way to Epe land. At this time the world looks like 200 with Carthage and KH still having not had any real fighting(thank goodness), an Epe, AS, Ptol.(EAP) alliance against KH. Carth and Ptol are at a cease fire. Carthage is quickly pushing into Europe i'm afraid if i dont get allied with them soon they will join in the fray on the side of EAP that will be too much for the KH.

Also in the East Baktria and Parthia have been fighting over the same 2 cities since the beginning of time it seems, KH has pumped in a total of around 10k to Baktria but it seems to be going to southern expansion instead of western expansion

    BACKGROUND Pt. 2

subA. if you want a challenge fight only the east and leave europe for the computer; someone seems to always take over and when they do they are rich mofos.

    A. the Lusotanna have had at least 1.5 full stacks of units on the very southwest coast near gibraltor for almost 30 years now; my question is do they have any boat building facilities or are they just hanging out guarding their coast? There is also a full stack of elite carthiginian troops moving out of carthage's city in iberia towards a large gathering of lusotanna in central iberia; this will be the defining moment for lusotanna and maybe me(as without lusotanna hanging on and drawing carthage's attention east i fear i will not have the finances to fight everywhere and i may have to fall back.) They also continue to deny me an alliance; if i can ever get my money up i am going to start financing their war against carthage.

    B. this is more of a statement than anything else DONT PLAY VH Strategy map as the world has been at war with me for about 10 years now and it is very sad /tiring to have everyone hate you except for my good ol Baktrians who appear to be getting beaten on at the moment in the east(though saka remains their protectorate since somewhere in the 230s). i made an incursion into the nile delta region and even pushed into memphis for 1 year before large armies from AS appeared in anatolia and large armies(of arabic nobles) appeared from Ptol. so ive now pulled back to alexandria and garrisoned it as reinforcements will be a ways off.

    C. The Casse have apparently been telling stories about the evil men in Southern Ireland as they have been massing troops there for at least 10-20 years. They now have 2.3 stacks and Southern Ireland has a whopping total of 2 units of spearmen guarding it...

    D. I've learned that i am a peacemaker; example: the AS and Ptol. who are normally intense rivals have put aside their hate and allied with each other because of me(of course they want to kill me but

The Carthaginians and Epirotes continue to fight me for illyria and dacian land; I have had to fight 2 almost full stacks of carthaginian elite units, one of which contained units with ave exp of 3.4; it seems the nations of the world do fight, but it is only to get at me and as soon as they can both get at me they declare a ceasefire and sometimes an alliance lol. Western Asia Minor, Tarsos, and almost all of makedonian homeland, and all of KH land has the capabilities to produce but seeing as i am at war with almost everyone now my finances are suffering from lack of trade so i am constrained to about 18k-22k a turn; and unfortunately playing on VH battle mode makes it so hellenic native phalanx can keep up with 3 exp theuroperoi(sp?) so im forced to make armies of mostly elite units just to win battles and this can be expensive. anyways im droning on now; cyall later

    Default Introduction

    .
    INTRODUCTION TO EASTERN HOLDINGS

The year is 191BC and i will take you on a tour of the hot spots around the Koinon Hellenon
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    - Alexandreia is one of the newest cities to be liberated and join the Koinon around 194, the city only agreed if it was promised full military protection from the Ptol. and her allies. The Koinon abliged and a governer has been fighting his way through Ptol. slime for approximately 1 year now.

    - Chersonesos has been a point of struggle between the noble greeks and the now exiled epirotes. Around 211 these noble people rebelled against their epirote masters and asked for protection and entrance into the koinon hellenon. The Koinon accepted but only after making sure the people of this fine city understood that military support would be minimal as the struggle against the Seleukids was sapping almost all of the Koinon's military power. At the time this seemed like a fair play from the Chersonians side as the epirotes and KH had held an alliance since the beginning of the struggle against Makedon. However between 211 and 207 the Epirotes made the uncalculably stupid move of sending a light stack of troops against Pella and a full stack against Chersonesos, breaking the long held alliance. The city was sieged and captured as help was stalled by the defensive and then offensive actions going on in western Greece and illyria. In the mid 190's, after the Epirote homeland and infrastructure was destroyed, Hero Thermonios received word from the Koinon that Chersonesos was to be liberated for good. After fighting the Epirotes in Dacian land, the Korinthian led an experienced army onto the fleet for a short hop to the province. After one season of siege the city was liberated and Hero was given the status of, well a Hero. Now the city is not only liberated but is providing the Koinon with excellent horse archers from the steppes.

    - Antiocheia(and lands on the AS border) is the main tragedy in the somewhat happy Koinon. This city was first liberated from the Seleukids in the 210's by Xenon Aithalidos Attikos, was taken back by AS, and swapped hands 2 more times before the Koinon decided it could not allow the people of the city to be continually under siege and/or enslaved. So the decision was made to pull out of Antiocheia for the foreseeable future. Around 206 the residents who wished to stay with the Koinon fled to Tarsos with Xenon covering the retreat of the population. The city was promptly taken back by the Seleukids but soon after a misguided rebellion led the city back into KH hands. Against better judgement, but seeing these people fiercely fighting for their freedom, the Koinon ordered Xenon back into the city to hold at all costs. This was going well until the treacherous Ptol. broke their long standing alliance and attacked the city while a Seleukid 2 stack sieged Tarsos. Xenon quickly dispatched the Ptol. sieging army but was forced to leave the city, vowing to return soon to stay, to save Tarsos(which has become the local military supplier, with an army barracks). When the Koinon launched an Amphibious invasion of the Lower Nile River area the Ptol. were forced to pull all available forces from its empire towards this new invasion. While this happened a fresh army of greeks was led to the front to garrison Tarsos. Xenon moved back to the city and it has held without problems since it was retaken in 194. This city and its polis though war-torn are quickly becoming a wonderful contributor to the Koinon ithrough its finances. Tarsos and Mazaka have been under almost constant attack from 1-2 Seleukid armies since they were taken well before the turn of the century. An attempt was made by the Koinon to secure the Seleukid city to the east pushing troops through but the mountains proved to have too many pathways in them to provide a good choke point so the force was withdrawn back to Mazaka.

    INTRODUCTION TO WESTERN HOLDINGS

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    - Dacia has become the hot point for the 3 way war between the epirotes/biQuarth/KH. Sarmiszegethusa, Singidunum, Naissos, Buridava, Serdike, and Tylis were all taken from the treacherous Epirotes between 207(when Epi broke the alliance) and 200. Singidunum has since traded hands with BiQuarth but has been taken back. And Sarmiszegethusa refused to join the Koinon after being liberated; so it was abandoned. The biQuarthadistim forces laid siege to teh now rebel city 2x, the first being repelled as i left the army barracks in the city before leaving allowing the city to fight with fine troops.

That is the end of the tour around the Koinon's trouble spots, now we will get down to current goings on.

    Default Operation: Run Home(192-191)

    .
    CHAPTER I:
    The Six Corps(plural)

    Operation: Run Home(192-Winter 191)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    192-Spring 191

"With Lusotanna continuing to be pushed back I am afraid it is only a matter of time before our enemies can force a peace treaty or worse yet Protectorate status on these free people..." so began the speech that would spur the Koinon on to sponsor a 2 part plan to keep biQarthadist in a 2 front war. After the vote was taken it was set that the Koinon would begin funding the Lusotannians in their war against biQarth aggression and that a water-bourne assault would begin on the evil empires soft underbelly. Beginning with southern italy, then to sicily, and finally making a landing on the very coasts of Afrika. Two men would lead the army, Podalinos Kresios and Euaimon Halieus.
The force left Sparta in the fall of 192 as time could not be wasted waiting for spring. Unfortunately this hurry caused one of the generals, Euaimon, to become deathly ill; and the ships were forced to sit at sea for 2 extra season as the EB engine makes navies go at the same rate as Generals in them. So after terrible delays, within sight of the italian coast, the force finally landed in the summer of 191. It quickly overcame the garrison in Rhegium and was able to recoup supplies and allow the army some much needed rest .

Also in the summer of 191 the Seleukid's laid siege to Tarsus...again... This time with a full stack army so Xenon was forced to leave a garrison at Antioch and move by ship to Tarsos to beat back the evil AS horde. Xenon's Army is full of veterans, with the most experienced combat unit being Xenon himself with 2 gold chevrons(those mean he kills...everything he sees)
The battle was rather uneventful with a larger number of green phalangites and cavalry support going against the hardened soldiers of Xenon's II Corps.

FORGOT TO PUT THIS EARLIER: i will be breaking my armies down into Corps; I Corps is stationed in Dacia, II Corps is stationed in Tarsos, III Corps is stationed in Mazaka, IV Corps stationed in Chersonesos, V Corps stationed in Alexandreia, and the VI Corps stationed in Sparta but currently on operation in Rhegium

The battle was quickly over and Xenon settled in for a summer in Tarsos.

    Recon Report Summer191 :
The biQarthadist army was seen moving out of the city of Sarmis.
Iberia still looks like it has for a while; looks like maybe the Lusotanna's are beginning to hold them back.

Fall 191 sees the Ptol's finding just enough funds to bring a small army to besiege the now lightly garrisoned Antiocheia
Not able to hold himself back, being a warmonger and all, Xenon loads back up on the ships(but not before having to ship out his heavy cavalry to be rearmed as they are both down to <20 men) and lands at Antioch, to relieve his warmongering needs, only to see the cowards run away from the battle and then to be left with not enough movement to catch them. The Ptol also bring an army to Alexandria only to be beaten by the auto pilot
In Rhegium the army still needs rest as even after taking the city it is low on supplies, this expedition cannot afford to dilly dally for too long or the cursed biQarthadist's may figure out what is going on.
The Epirotes have been dragging Hero back and forth around the peninsula and even on boat towards the western coast of the sea. So in the summer of 191 the Koinon Council receives a messenger from Hero requesting permission to secure the peninsula that Chersonesos lays on from further Epirote annoyance. After successfully defending Chersonesos from an Epirote attack ,in fall of 191, Hero receives orders from the Koinon to go ahead with his plan to liberate Pantikapaion, as it is the last Epirote stronghold on the peninsula, and () and offer them a place in the Koinon Hellenon.
There is a motion going through the council asking for another Corps to be paid for and commissioned by the KH for the defense of Epidamnos from Epirote/biQarthadist forces. This city has been under almost constant siege since it was taken and it will no longer be possible for the I Corps to move all the way down to the coast as the biQarthadist army in the north is growing ever stronger. biQarthadist is also beginning to flex some naval muscle as she has snuck ships into the black sea and is currently blockading 5 KH ports. In the council politicing begins, looking to see who will vote for a 3rd navy to be added to the Koinon Naval ranks to first clear the black sea and second blockade the entrance to the Black Sea prohibiting the entrance of any ships deemed suspicious by the Admiral.

    Default Operation: Run Home pt.2

    .
    Winter 191
Rhegion officially becomes a free allied polis, and Epidamnos completes the installation of a local tyrant bringing order and troop selection to the city.

During the Fall the Ptol leader outside of Antiocheia was able to recruit a fair number of local mercenaries, to bring his army to almost 3/4 of the way full. The Seleukids continue to bump armys through the mountains towards Mazaka and Tarsos.

The biQarthadist Empire is beginning to show some signs of fault as 3 of its provinces rebelled last turn one on the franco-atlantic coast, and two in the land near the Sweboz

    Default 191 finished

    .
winter 191 went without hitch, after taking Sarmis from the Rebels the biQarthadist offensive and hence the western front has been nicely quiet for the last 2 seasons, lets hope it lasts. The Ptol.'s surrounding antiochiea were dispatched in such a manner that the only thing worth reporting from this battle is that if my general could run a little faster he would be a crazy heavy cavalry
In Alexandreia all is quiet as well; all this quietness is rather unnerving...lets hope it not before the storm
In other news a Columned Music Hall was completed in Demetrius marking the second of these beautiful buildings to grace the Koinon.

Default 1st Annual State of the Koinon Address-M (191-190)

    .
    State of the Koinon

    Military
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The 6 corps of the Koinon have been placed under 2 main Armies I Army consisting of the Western Theater of
Operations including Corps I, IV, and VI and the II Army consisting of the Eastern Theater of Operations Corps II,
    III, and V.

I Corps has been garrisoning Singidunum and training for approximately 2.5 year now, the Corps has been tasked with holding both Epirote and biQarthadist aggression in check along the northern front of the Koinon. But for the last year or year and a half there has been an eery silence; and I Corps' elite troops have been slowly shuttled to other theaters of operation where they are more urgently needed. A motion was brought before the Koinon Council seeking a new Corps to be commissioned for the defense of Epidamnos. In light of this need, the council has decided to expand the I Corps to include 2 armies, the original, now I Division, to stay in the Dacian area, and the second, aptly named II Division, to defend Epidamnos and the Illyrian region this II Division is at the moment an understrength division as troops are badly needed in the VI Corpsinvasion. These are the Breakdowns of the armies
    I CORPS I DIVISION

    I CORPS II DIVISION

II Corps came under siege in Antiocheia at the very end of the 191 by a Seleukid Army. This of course only served to make Xenon scream in delight as the Commander of II Corps, after slaughtering the Ptol. army, was beginning to think he would go stir crazy waiting the whole winter to kill again!
The II Corps Heave Cavalry compliment arrived in Asia Minor for refitting only to realize that the Koinon had been forced to spend money on construction to the point that they would have to wait another season to be refitted. So the II Corps operates with some understrength Mercenary Hippeis. As soon as Spring hit Xenon launched forward in a full on assault of the Ptolemain army; as soon as the enemy saw the 2 gold bars hanging from the Generals unit flag they promptly fled the field.
Fortunately the shear terror this army inspired caused two units of Thorakitai, one unit of Thureophoroi, and a unit of Spartiatai to gain experience. After the battle Xenon was heard wailing in his quarters; however this anguish was quickly turned to hope when scouts reported a seleucid general sitting across the banks of the Orontos River. At the end of the day the II Corps looks like this

III Corps has been mostly at peace for the last year, as the fort blocking the mountain pass to the east of Mazaka has managed to hold the Seleukids off. In this off time the General has been shuttling troops back and forth getting refitted and writing a poem about just how much he hates the Seleukids, both noble things for a greek general to partake in.

Hero is leading IV Corps on campaign in Taurica. In the spring of 190 he finally reached Pantikapaion which was garrisoned by a full stack plus some. However this army was not exactly the elites of the Epirote nation
notice they have 2x our number and a 5 start general and the odds are even . Though faced with masses of enemy troops Hero commands rams to be built and the siege to move forward.

V Corps has again come under siege in Memphis for the 3 time in as many seasons. The army was terribly thinned after a tactical disaster in the winter sallying forth(otherwise known as auto-resolve on VH). At the moment the V Corps is relying solely on mercenary phalangites for the backbone of its fighting force. As long as this seasons siege can be survived there is a fleet with reinforcements, of mercenary phalangites and Kretan archers, which should arrive in the summer of this year and relieve much of the pressure now facing the city.

VI Corps is continuing to recuperate, at Rhegion after the near disasterous boat ride to Italia. Earlier this year a detachment was sent out to kill a medium sized biQarthadist army blocking the road to the cities port. This detachment was led by Podalinos and consisted of Spartans, a few cavalry, and Kretan archers. They were met with unusually stiff resistance and Podalinos, who was always "not feeling well"(as his traits showed), was struck down on the battlefield. Although it is always tragic to lose a ruling member of the Koinon it has proven to stir the troops in VI Corps up into a frenzy. Reinforcements have been dispatched from Sparta consisting of a mixing pot of heavy and supporting units led by Kronos Elateios. It should arrive in Rhegiom just in time to see Euaimon back to full health.

Default 1st Annual State of the Koinon Address-D

    .
    State of the Koinon
    Finance and Diplomacy
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Since the year 200 the Koinon Hellenon has witnessed ever major neighboring faction turn against her. This has caused a twofold depletion of our economy in that a. we can no longer trade with many of our long time trade partners and b. The 2 front war has cost the Koinon hundreds of thousands on minai in soldier recruitment, training, retraining, and supply. We are in such a shape that our once great economy now has to supply 6 Corps and countless other peacekeeping forces in Eastern Asia Minor and Dacia. This has constrained the Koinon to a measly 15000-20000 minai per season. Trading rights have been accepted by all of the naitons who are not at war with me that still hold their independance including Lusotanna, Parthia, Baktria, Hayas, Sarmations, and Sweboz.

The Casse have continue to stay on mainland britannia so all attempts to speak with them have failed. A fleet will soon be raised to navigate through the carthage held waters of the western mediterranean around spain and finally landing on casse with a diplomat. If we can gain trade rights with these people perhaps we can help them finally conquer southern ireland and maybe one down mount a full on invasion of Qarthadist territory in NW Europa. Unfortunately this is a long ways down the hodos as fleets must be raised, diplomacy extended, and finally persuading the casse to attack the Qarthadist beast will not be an easy thing.

In the way of enemy factions, our neighbors currently seem rather pissed at us(thanks to the stupid VH campaign behavior) and it will cost much more than the 15-20k a year to find a cease-fire out of one of these factions; but we must make every effort to attempt to procure a ceasefire from at least one of the nations now aligned against us. The general feeling among the council is that the Epirotes, who currently have a ceasefire with biQarthadist and are allied with the Ptol and AS, will be the most likely to accept a ceasefire as they are the weakest of the 4 factions now fighting against me. The Ptolemian's and Seleukids forged an alliance against me no more than 3 years after the Ptolemian's despicable treachery in sieging and taking Antiocheia. However there is another idea floating about dealing with the Aigyptians, would it be possible to muster enough money to pay off the Aigyptians to begin fighting Carthage in Northern Africa. Either way this effort will require a significant amount of money probably requiring the saving of a large percentage of the profits earned over a 2-3 year period.

Really nice to see an AAR in such a late stage of the game. This has inspired me to try out a KH campaign next. Keep up the good work!

Default 1st Annual State of the Koinon Address-S

    .
    State of the Koinon

    Subterfuge
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Spies and assassins have become completely useless in causing cities to rebel, the Koinon has thrice had cities below 20% public order only to see the next turn an order of over 100% appear(granted with some buildings in need of repair). There are 2 sets of these anarchist units roaming around the known world, one is deep in Seleukid territory and one is in italy going ahead of the now pivoted VI Corps. These two units of nogooders and rabblerousers have probably caused tens of thousands of minai in damage but have not been able to precipitate the rebellion of a city yet.
    Sleukid Anarchists

Italian Anarchists(including a spy not shown)

That about does it for subterfuge, there are a few assassins and spies scattered about attempting to terrorize my neighbors but mostly all they do is serve as my eyes.

    Default The Securing of Taurica(190)

    .
    CHAPTER II:
    The Beast is Struck

    The Securing of Taurica
or The death of a thousand levy's
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

It's the beginning of 190 and Hero has been attacked by the forces under siege in the city of Pantikapaion. The enemy numbers are just over 2x our numbers but their ranks are filled with levy's, men pressed into service not one year ago.

At the onset of the battle the horse archers from Thrace that have been recruited from Chersonesos begin dueling with the light cavalry of the Epirote forces and the two sides heavy cavalry dive straight into fighting one another.
The cavalry arm of our army proved far superior to what the epirotes fielded as the enemy light cavalry fled the field
and the enemy general retired to the back of the battlefield, to attempt to command his levy's

It became quickly apparent that this was indeed a disorderly mob and
not and army as the levy units and some medium infantry proceeded to come in broken waves as though led by an idiot. Wave after wave 1500 lightly armed and armoured troops engaged the hardened soldiers of IV Corps.
after minimal engagement time the enemy realized the trained soldiers of the KH were cutting through their lines like butter and they began to rout.

not a very exciting battle as it was a true slaughter

    .
NEWS ALERT NEWS ALERT NEWS ALERT NEWS ALERT NEWS ALERT NEWS ALERT

In a stunning turn of events the Koinon Council has recalled the VI Corps from moving to Africa and has instead called for the liberation of the Italian Peninsula from Qarthadist hands. Apparently there was a spy that had infiltrated the Council's chambers as a wine server. The council became aware of this and spread the word of an invasion of Afrika using the spy to feed faulty information to his Qarthadist masters. The spy has since been executed after serving his purpose. The plan has worked to completion as an army was raised in Africa and still sits there at least 3 seasons away while our VI Corps reinforcements sit at the gate to Taras.

Default VI Corps - Italian Campaign Begins (189)

    .
(I think this empire has grown too large for me to handle every battle, as im afraid i would be bored to tears as well as you. So from here on i will be following the movements of the offensive arm of the Koinon's armies. For the moment this will be the VI Corps and its movements in Italy. The other theaters battles will come in the State of the Koinon report given once ever 6 seasons. So without further adu the movements of the VI Corps.)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Spartan's lead the way
    Spring 189
The original VI Corps, I Divison, is settling into Rhegion. It will be the anchor of the campaign holding in check any Qarthadist reinforcements attempting to move north from Sicily. The new arm of the VI Corps, the II Divison, has landed just south of Taras on the southern edge of the bay led by Kronos. Before Kronos landed the Qarthadistims had sent a Puno-Nuraghic man by the name of Chaeremon south to take back Rhegion. After recruiting mercenaries Chaeremon led an army 3/4's full, made up of greeks and samnites. As he marched south he was somehow informed of the II Division and its plans for imminent landing behind the mountain range to the east of Rhegion. With this information he quickly wheeled north but as it was winter he was only able to march his army half way, setting up camp in the Apennine valley. When Kronos landed he was apprised by the spy who had made land fall during the winter that Chaeremon had not been able to march to the safety of Taras. After sending a messenger to Rhegion asking for reinforcements to be sent Kronos made his way north to meet Chaeremon. This would be the first real engagement for Kronos and he was a bit nervous as Chaeremon was a rising star in the Qarthadist army. Adding to this nervousness was the fact that he he had failed all of his management classes and this was the only way he had left to prove himself to his people. He would have been a nervous wreck had it not been for his excellence in the art of scouting, he had excelled over his peers in training in this area as he had been the only one in his class and the first in 3 years to find the thrakian peltasts in the scouting exercises. This meant he had nothing to fear from any kind of ambush the Qarthadistim's might be plotting. As he reached the valley word came that Rhegion had sent reinforcements, led by Captain Phigaleios, of 3 seasoned Spartiatoi Hoplites, one unit of elite Thureophoroi, and 2 units of elite Prodromoi. This would be a fine addition to the II Division as it marched north. Surrounding Chaeremon the II division attacked.

After exorting his troops to give their all and claim the victory that was theirs the battle began. Much to the horror of II division's Rhegion troops the cunning Qarthadistim commander had begun marching south and would engage the outnumbered spartiates well before Kronos forces could march south. Chaeremon had positioned himself on the top of a hill which from the north side had a very steep ascent.

Kronos released his cavalry corps of Hippeios and Prodromoi to sprint west of Chaeremon's troops and provide Phigaleios with extra cavalry. Kronos cursed the god's for not being on horse back(as he was korinthian and not a spartan) and began to double time the entire army west on the same path the cavalry were taking so as to avoid fighting Chaeremon on such a terrible incline.

The first troops to engage us were Misthophoroi Hoplitai(that these greeks would be willing to fight for Qarthadistim against us is a disgrace that only served to fire up the Spartiatias) who charged into the Thureophoroi.
The Thureophoroi held and began to handle the Hoplitai's because of their superior arms skill. But so as not to let the battlefield get too messy and full of enemy troops the two groups of Prodromoi came through the Spartiatias ranks and charged into the back of the Hoplitai's causing casualties but not making them break

another unit of enemy was moving towards the Prodromoi so to avoid being stuck the Prodromoi disengaged and retired behind the lines to wait for the extra cavalry support to arrive. The more experienced and older Spatiatias moved up and engaged the Hoplitoi's from behind as the other two units of Spartiatias moved forward to protect the elder's backside. The Qarthadistim commander not realizing his troops had already engaged quickly pulled back the second unit but was unable to get the other unit back as it was now surrounded by Koinon spears and shields.
This unit quickly routed and the line was reformed.

Phigaleios was happy at this first rout but knew there was much more to come as the Qarthadist army was now bearing down upon his outnumbered men.

Kronos two units of cavalry were racing through the woods when they were taken by surprise by a unit of spearmen, they began to fight uncontrolled taking casualties, the cavalry commander tried to take control of his men but was unable to for a few minutes. After finally regaining control they disengaged the spearmen and began racing south towards the outnumbered troops.

The cavalry arrived just in time as the first two units from the Qarthadist army engaged Phigaleios' men. The first unit(Misthophoroi Hoplitai) charged into the center of the line and the second 5-7 seconds behind made its way towards the elite Spartiatia on the left side of the line.
Seeing an opportunity Phigaleios ordered the Spartiatia forward to engage the samnites ahead of the line. As more Qarthadist men were moving towards the right side of the line the cavalry would be unable to charge in on that side but by moving the Spartiates up to keep the Samnites busy a large whole opened on the Hoplitai right flank. A unit of Prodromoi moved left and rammed into the flank of the enemy, again causing casualties but not a rout.
The Spartiates on the right side began moving forward to engage the incoming enemy.
After the infantry cleared out all 3 units of Prodromoi moved around the hoplitai and collapsed upon them causing them to rout into the Spartiates who had been fighting them just seconds earlier.
The 2 right units of Spartiates began engaging the samnite heavy infantry on the enemy's left side as the Thureophorpi and Spartiates on the left moved the the center of the enemy line. The samnites put up a good fight withstanding the charge of 3 units of Prodromoi and the Hippeios. Heres a video of the charge https://youtube.com/watch?v=CtqlsRAtb7E

By this time Kronos had arrived and took up the left flank of the formation as II Division was finally united. Kronos quickly began to wheel around the now outnumbered Qarthadist forces and a rout ensued as the enemy was enveloped by Greeks.

Exclamation 2nd Annual State of the Koinon Address-Military(190-188)

    .

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    GROUND
Our men have continued to improve their reputation among the nations as army after army of Greek, Carthaginian, Barbarian, and Italian men have been repelled from our borders. In the west, the Council of the Koinon Hellenon decided to launch a surprise invasion of Italia in an attempt to keep the fighting (and its ensuing devastation) off of Hellenic lands. In the east, the armies of the Koinon have been tasked to hold the line as the main push in Anatolia and eastward has been for the development of infrastructure both economically and militarily.

    Military

I Corps, led by the head of the council Erchelaos Rhodios, has continued to garrison the Dacian region and hold in check any southern movement by the Carthaginians and Epirotes. The only two noteworthy happenings in Dacia

1.The summer 189 besieging of Singidunum.
The city was besieged by a molossian man named Diodoros Sasonios. He is a very young man compared to his adversary in this battle, and looking at the vnumbers of troops probably came to Singidunum without orders.

This engagement is not important for the number of men killed, as the enemy withdrew as soon as our leader sallied forth. This engagement was the first use of horse archers outside of their normal regions. The horse archers proved themselves worthy archers as they are quickly able to get behind the enemy lines to fire salvos into the back of the enemy.

    2. The besieging in Winter of 188, this force was much larger with 2 Epirote family members; nevertheless the battle was a slaughter and Erchelaos showed enough prowess to be recognized as one of the leading strategists of the day

The men of II Corps have been busy, as always, chopping and jabbing through thousands of enemies both Ptolemaic and Seleukid. During this time period II Corps was engaged in a major battle almost every season.

    Spring 189 - Antiocheia

    Summer 189 - Tarsos

Spring 188 - Antiocheia pitted Xenon's II Corps against a 21-year-old Makedonian. The battle had even numbers but a combination of Xenon's experience in leading, his hardened troops, and the Makedonian's lack of heavy cavalry proved to be the downfall of this army and it's Pezhetairoi. Below, Xenon stabs into the backs of these ill-supported phalangites

    Summer 188 - Tarsos

Winter 188 Xenon laughed at the pitiful excuse for an army outside the walls of Antioch. He was so let down by the puny army that he let a captain command(Auto-resolve) and instead of fighting went inside to challenge his wise advisor to a wargame.

The only problem facing the II Corps is the lack of a steady supply of heavy cavalry. Xenon has recently attempted to fix this problem, sending a demand west for 2 more units of heavy cavalry to be trained and sent east, so that he could maintain the heavy cavalry attachments.

The III Corps' actions have been few and far between thanks to the mountain pass fort just east of Mazaka. Seleukid armies have constantly stalked around behind the fort but only twice have they moved past it towards the city and III Corps.

    Fall 188 - Mazaka sally

    Winter 188- sally again

After securing Taurica in 190 the IV Corps has been taking a well deserved rest. Except for the useless attempt at a siege in the summer of 189 peace has reigned in Taurica.
    Summer 189 -

The elite troops of IV Corps have been sent back to the mainland for refitting and some R&R. Hero has taken this opportunity to run extensive exercises using the horse archers, learning, from their commanders, the way of the steppe. After his core greeks return he is hoping to integrate these horse archers into the Corps in such a way as to become a more flexible and lethal instrument to be used against the enemies of the Koinon. Some of the more liberal members of the Council have already extended him an invitation, if this new Corps is successful, to demonstrate the possibilities of this integrated corps before the full Council.

The V Corps, commanded by Demophilos Eleusinios(son-in-law of II Corps' Xenon), was almost as busy as II Corps. It seems the Ptolemaioi regions located near Alexandreia have been experiencing some unrest as word spreads of the benevolence of our government, (Alexandreia was immediately granted high status in the Koinon as a tier II city, whereas most cities brought into the Koinon begin in the IV tier and must slowly work up, it was given this high status so as to generate unrest). This unrest has forced the Ptolemaias to double their efforts in trying to remove the Koinon from their homeland. This has been a tremendous help to the II Corps as the armies fighting V Corps are not joining with the Seleukid's in the north. here are the battles

Fall 190 - This battle was where Demophilos knack for using missile units really began to show. His constant recruiting of Kretan Archers, and good implementation of javelin cavalry is beginning to pay dividends as units of missile units gain one battlefield commendation after another(chevron)

The local mercenary pez were able to hold the line as missile units and heavy infantry flanked the oposing phalangites.

    Winter 189 -

    Spring 188 -

Summer 188 - Summer of 188 saw a numerically equal fight, the only difference was the use of a group of elephants by the Ptolemaiois. Of course with all of the missile units upgraded and experienced the elephants were quickly disposed of.

Fall 188 - Demopholis was called away to Olympia to compete in the games, and got first place in the javelin throw!

    SEA
The Koinon Navy has conducted itself very honorable during this time period.
While sailing between Helikarnassis, and Alexandreia, with reinforcements, this pirate navy was spotted off the coast of Salamis. It was deemed far enough off that no worry was made. However these pirates were able to whip there men into sailing farther than we had anticipated. The pirates engaged and the Koinon Admiral, Androkles, was so ready for battle that is was as if there was no way he could retreat even if he wanted to. The result was a glorious victory for the Koinon.

    Default Diplomacy and Subterfuge

    State of the Koinon

    Diplomacy
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
First up is our family, we were able to adopt 3 new men into our family and 2 of the Koinon's sons came of age between 189 and 188

All four of these men are quickly moving towards Athenai where the Ludus Magna awaits to train them.

Next are our diplomatic efforts. In the north Eukles Attikos has been sent as our ambassador to the Sauromatae. He met with the Sauromataes and was able to reaffirm our trade rights and exchange maps, though they refused an alliance on account of being allied with the Epirotes and the Ptolemaians. On view of their kingdom it can be seen that the Hai have been pushing hard into the north, which explains their not declaring war on me, and rebellions in the north. The Sauromatae appear to own a shrinking kingdom, they would do well to drop their alliances with our enemies and ally with us and that was plainly told them.

In the west Dionysophanes Metapontios has been appointed ambassador to the Lusotanians. He was also able to reaffirm our trade rights and trade maps. But once again the Epirotes and Ptolemaians have already allied with these people so an alliance is impossible. However, the Lusotanians did agree, after much persuasion, that the biQarthadastims were not invading their southern borders and time soon. After finally coming to this agreement they agreed to send their armies north so that the full fury of the Lusotanian people will be felt soon on the Qarthadastim west. After making sure they were sincere in their plans on western europa Dionysophanes gave the Lusotanians the first of our many gifts, 10,000 mnai. This would probably be the biggest sum given to them, as later turns will probably see between 1000-2000 mnai. We may even lay off payments for a year or two in order to build them a fleet (if i can ever figure out how to spawn a fleet, if anyone knows how please tell me).

There are also continuing efforts to gain a ceasefire with all of our current enemies, but they all seem to be in vain.

    Historical Notes:
It seems our Epirote neighbors once made it as far as Capua and Arpi on the italian peninsula as traces of the former greek government have been found by our spies. This hard fighting between the Epirotes and Romans in Italia may explain how the Romans fell so quickly to the Qarthadastims.

    State of the Koinon

    Subterfuge
The only notable subterfuge currently being performed is the Seleukid Anarchists, they moved to Persepolis and at one time had the public order down to 15%. However this still was not enough to cause a revolt.

By the next season it was back up to 100% public order.

Default The Fall of Taras and Arpi

    CHAPTER III:
    The Emergence of a Leader

I tried my "skills" at adding some character to this picture, but with only ms paint i cant do a whole lot :D hope yall like it!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    189
    Summer
The VI Army has been hard at work since moving onto the Italian peninsula. Kronos Elateios is quickly displaying an aptitude for leading men in battle. After his first victory Kronos dispatched the spy stationed with his army to Taras then moved towards Taras, layed siege to the city. After noticing the strength of the Samnites, in his first battle, Kronos decided to find some to add to his army, after asking around he found 2 units of Heavy Samnite Infantry more than willing to fight the Qarthadist invaders. As he had been given authorization to recruit local units to fill his army he immediately hired them.

As the enemy troops in the area were seen to be only 60% of his numbers the decision was made by Kronos to build rams so that his numbers would not be neutralized.

Rhegion is currently training a unit of levy hoplites in anticipation of dispatching a garrison force to Taras.

One week after laying siege to the city the Carthadist forces in the region moved in to aid their besieged comrades. Chaeremon’s army, still licking its wounds from the Appenine valley battle, rallied from Taras to fight for their life. The two generals met before the battle and Kronos attempted to persuade Chaeremon to defect with his army to the Koinon. Chaeremon responded by telling Kronos to go home while he still had a victorious record in battle. Kronos, still a bit immature, responded with something about a “servile cur” and rode off.

The Carthadists joined lines and began marching on Kronos' position situated near the Bay of Taras. He took notice of the lack of Qarthadist cavalry. The lines met and Chaeremon, attempting to motivate his troops, charged into the middle of the battle line only to become hopelessly stuck in the middle of our hoplites. Apparently he was not as courageous as he had hoped and left his troops, he was last seen riding into the city, bodyguards dead on the field.

After the rout of their leader the Qarthadist forces were unable to hold their flanks and were quickly surrounded. Only a handful of forces survived the battle to flee back into the temporary safety of Taras.

One unit of Prodromoi performed well enough to receive a commendation after the battle, causing almost 100 casualties while suffering only 1.

    Fall
When the rams were completed Kronos commanded his army to move into the city. Kronos did not command this battle but made his top captain(auto-resolve) to do so. It was reported that Chaeremon fought to the end and was killed while trying to rally his then pitiful army. The Tarasian greeks, what were left of them, welcomed him with open arms as they had never lived as free men, the city having been under foreign rule for over 60 years.
The council took notice of Kronos' absence in the battle with a cautious eye as they were not sure whether this was done for training purposes or because he was beginning to get arrogant. They would need to be cautious, to make sure this young commander didn’t get carried away with himself, arrogance is not befitting the commander of an army, especially a Koinon army, as it has led to the downfall of many a great army.

After taking the city those who opposed the Koinon were enslaved and a Hellenic tyrant was installed in Taras. In the Spring, Kronos was sent north to Arpi leaving a garrison of 2 levy hoplites in Taras.
In the Fall Kronos led his troops to the gates of Arpi so as not to be stuck outside the city for the winter.

    Army Composition:

    Battle:
As the 6 rams beat against the walls of the city, the Kretans, numbering around 240, began to thin out the numbers of the closest units to the walls, causing some of the units to break position and flee to the safety of the nearby buildings.

The walls came down and greeks came flooding through the breeches. Spartans in the middle 3 holes and other units through the outside 3. The enemy was quickly overtaken in the middle and our 100 or so phalanxmen blockaded the main street, cutting off reinforcements, while the outside units finished off the feeble defenders.

The phalanx' then began moving down the main road flanked by Spartans. Abascantus, wishing to die with honor, led one last attack into the phalanx. He was able to break through the phalanx, opening up room for his infantry to get in close with them, but was quickly cut down by the Spartans. After the death of their governer the soldiers continued, fighting to the death in the city center. In the end 106 of our men fell that day, 26 of whom were healed by Kronos' doctor making a total of 80 men dead or permanently crippled too far to fight.

    Default The Fall of Kapua

    .
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Spring finds Kronos towards the end of setting up a Hellenic Tyrant in Arpi not to leave until the government is fully secured. But, scouts report that a very large (3/4 stack) biQarthadist army is moving just to the south of the city. Overwhelmed with eagerness, Kronos sends message to regional HQ in Epidamnos begging for a chance to fight these bi-Qarthadists. The message comes back denying his request citing Euaimon's II Division to the south as being able to handle the threat if the bi-Qarthadists wish to bypass Kronos. This thoroughly agitated Kronos, but, knowing duty was where his allegiance was owed, he stayed put in Arpi to finish the installation of the government.

During the early summer months the biQarthadist army had marched south to Rhegion probably hoping to gain forces with troops from Sicily in sieging the city.
Eauaimon chose to stay in Rhegion in the event there was a large bi-Qarthadist army lurking in the dark of Sicily. Seeing this lack of vision he petitioned Epidamnos for 2-3 spies to be given so as to infiltrate Sicily to give a better knowledge of future bi-Qarthadist movements.

In the north, Kronos has "finally" finished setting up the government in Arpi. The VI Corps' II Division moved out of Arpi and laid siege to Kapua. 6 battering rams are now under construction and Kronos is feeling very good about being back out in the field.

In the latter part of the summer the bi-Qarthadist forces in the area surrounding Kapua attacked II Division. The numbers of forces were about even and the enemy was led by Charidemos Chulu a half breed man from Afrika and Iberia. This stock probably granted him favor in the eyes of the Gauls, as he was half-barbarian, his army was made up mostly of these Gaulic men with a core of three Liby-phoenician spearmen and some light cavalry.

    Army Composition:

    Battle:
Kronos found a nice wide slope at the foot of a mountain and set up his lines there.
The Lines were set up as such PH=Phalanx SH=Spartans SI=Samnite heavy Infantry Cav = Cavalry KT= Kretan Archers Gen=General Th=Thureophoroi

    ......SH..SH..SHPHPHGen..SH..SH..SH
    ..SISI...........................................Th
    .KT ..KT..........Cav...Cav.....Cav..............KT KT

The Qarthadist army formed up and began marching towards Kronos' position.
After a "watch this"(he was of course half barbarian) to his troops Charidemos charged into the Thureophoroi definding our right side. His bodyguards killed about 5 in the initial charge but then got bogged down in the spearmen and began taking casualties as the closest unit of Spartans moved to engage the general. His men followed suit charging into the Spartan lines on our right. Unfortunately for them, they were forced to run halfway up a rather large hill, so by the time they reached our units they were all very winded. Somehow Charidemos was able to fight his way back out but was left with only 2 bodyguards still on their horses.

The Qarthadist light cavalry pulled up right on top of the Samnites to throw spears at the Kretans only to have the samnites throw spears back at them.

The second batch of enemy arrived on our left side engaging the Spartans and Samnites, these were the Liby-phoenecian spearmen one of the better units in the Qarthadist army and Charidemos had come back to the battle to fight with them. This was not the first time VI Corps had faced these troops, they were hardy warriors who did not run like these barbarian mercenaries were likely too. While the spearmen were pinned in a battle with the phalanx' and spartans, the 3 cavalry units moved out to the left of our lines on a mission to kill the enemy's 2 medium cavalry units. This was quickly accomplished and the Cavalry wheeled around towards the back of the Liby-phoenicians. The 120 horsemen hit the Liby-Phoenician lines line a terrible storm, sending men flying into the air and 3 units routing.

After the Phoenicians began to run, the general was killed by a Spartan, and the whole of the Qarthadist line began to melt away. The Infantry were ordered to let them go, as the Kretans began unloading volleys at the backs of the now routing enemy. The battle was won in convincingly fashion, thanks in good part to the positioning on a hill.

    Results:
VI Corps took 79 casualties in battle, only 8 were able to be recuperated.
3 of the 4 Kretan units were awarded promotions after the battle for their accuracy and deadliness.

In a moment that can only be attributed to the Gods the season of Fall was skipped(i have no pics and can't figure out where the season went, in fact im not really sure which season im missing, darn you RTW hardcoded two season symbol!) for a long winter.

There are only about 400 enemy left of the once might force set outside Kapua. Now the rams have been built and the city is ripe for the plucking. Kronos moves in, but once again gives his men command(seeing a 2.5:1 advantage in numbers). During the battle for Kapua many units gained honor while the archers and armoured phalanx suffered some of the only casualties, but casualties were higher than normal, and on units that do not normally sustain such high casualties.

    Results:

As there was still a small army left outside the city Kronos also allowed his captain to fight this battle. This time a good number of units also gained experience but once again the phalanx units took the hardest hits of all the units. These will now need to be shipped back to the homeland to be replenished taking away valuable units from the Italian front.

The Council is quickly becoming agitated with Kronos' apparent lack of respect for the lives and expense cost when he lets a captain command a batle. If this continues there are plans to send out a spartan family member to take control of the army and send Kronos back to govern a province.

The bi-Qarthadist forces near Rhegion have moved a small amount closer but have refused to lay siege to the town. Since it is winter Euaimon decided to attack the force while it was still winter and supplies will be hard to find for this large army.
The bi-Qarthadists come to battle but quickly run after only a few minutes of combat. Producing a very nice result.

After looting the routing bi-Qarthadist camp Euaimon returned to Rhegium to weather the winter.

    186
Spring - Kronos is called back to Athens while his army installs a a Hellenic tyrant in the city. While in Athens he is questioned at length and dressed down in front of the council because of his decision to use a captain to command his troops instead of doing it himself. After securing an oath from Kronos, to no longer frivolously throw his soldiers lives away, they sent him back into the field.
During his absence little happened. It appears the council's funding of the Lusitanians may be paying dividends as reports from our ambassador there say the Lusitanians have already taken back one of their cities, and 2 more are now in rebel hands after rebelling from the bi-Qarthadist's.
Meanwhile, in Rhegion, Euamon sent the 6 units of mercenaries back out into the field not needing their service anymore.

Nothing happened militarily this year with the VI Corps as time was spent consolidating the gains made in Italia.

    Default Epidamnos Under Siege

    .
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Just across the Adriatic Sea the Epirotes seem to be marching forces out of Dalminion headed north. The Council dispatched carriers to Epidamnos in late 187 instructing the Armyto move by fleet to Dalminion's port, offload, and take the city. Epikydes, the governor of Epidamnos prepared his forces over the winter and launched by ship in the Spring.

In the Summer word reaches Epikydes just before dismounting to Dalminion that the Epirote army that was observed moving north had in-fact been hiding in the mountains waiting for the right moment to pounce on Epidamnos. Now Epidamnos' small garrison is under siege and could be taken in the late months of summer if they are not reinforced. The fleet immediately turns around and sails back at full speed. Arriving in the late summer months Epikydes attacked the sieging Epirote army. The Epirote army was a hodgepodge of different units from greeks to gauls.

    Army Composition:

    Battle:
The two armies met on a plain less than 2 hours walk from Epidamnos with the Adriatic Sea on the western side and Mount Morava(i think) to the east. The Epirotes formed up in and around the woods just on the other side of the highway leading into the city while our men formed up west of the Epirotes nearer the coast.
The two lines met at the highway and a fierce battle ensued(A,B). Eutyches, seeking to break the middle of our line, charged into the fray with his bodyguards(C). Seeing the heavy cavalry charging for his middle Epikydes moved into the line at the place Eutyches had charged into. Two of the three remaining enemy cavalry units moved north through the woods in attempt to flank our left side. Our Prodromoi followed and were able to catch them by surprise in the woods. Normally our cavalry avoid the woods but one of the enemy units was a light cavalry throwing javelins, and in the woods they would be mostly neutralized(D). After seeing he would not break our lines, Eutyches pulled back and moved to the Epirote right side seeking to flank some of our men who were fighting off to the left of the main line. Unfortunately for him, one of the more vigilant men in the hoplitai unit turned in time to alert the backside of the unit to turn. The Hoplitai presented a wall of spears and shields, while the Spartans with them protected their back. The enemy general who was too close, or too stupid to stop the charge continued into the now reformed Hoplitai. His bodyguards were quickly gobbled up by the always hungry spears, and Eutyches turned and fled the battle(E). Meanwhile back in the middle of the line one of our phalanx units broke the levy's they were fighting and began to wheel right squeezing the left side our our enemy's line(F). The main enemy line began to falter, seeing one unit run, but the commanders were able to keep the men in place for about another minute. Then the line broke and began retreating. The enemy sent in the last of their reserve; gauls, archers, and slingers to try and break the men fighting on our left(G) but the now freed up main body of II Division moved in behind them and they too turned and fled. The Prodromoi ,who had used the light cavalry as a sort of warm-up, now sprinted towards the fleeing enemy cutting down large numbers of them as they ran.
