Thread: when client rulers die

    Default when client rulers die

I dunno if this is supposed to happen or not, but I've installed lvl 4 governments in those regions where I had only lvl 3 and 4 to choose from. Now, when the client ruler dies, the city gets covered in fog of war - I can't see income, happiness or anything. But the city still belongs to me??? I can click on it AND THEN SEE IT? Also, I think it's strange, that the city is just left leaderless - often leading to revolt. Since the lvl 4 government remains in place, why isn't a new client ruler appointed.
Also, unlike other cities, leaderless lvl 4's seem to need a FM nearby to not get covered in fog of war. Terriblt frustrating when talking about Indian settlements. And if they leave, fog of war covers the city once more.

Stranger still, I had a FM-led army thrown out of Taksakshila when it revolted following the death of the client ruler. The fog of war enveloped them as well, and still I could VAGUELY SEE THEM - but I COULDN'T activate them, despite them obviously still being my men, and even having an FM as leader. Even stranger still, pressing togglefow, I suddenly COULD click on them and order them to besiege Taksakshila.

How much of this is supposed to happen and how much is the strange behaviour of my computer (I'm pretty certain the last one wasn't meant to happen)
Moreover, I advise that Syracusans must be added to EB (insp. by Cato the Elder )

Is looking forward to the 2090's, when EB 20.0 will be released - spanning the entire Eurasian continent and having no Eleutheroi - with a faction for every independent state instead. Look out for the Gedrosians, the Cretans and the kingdom of Kallatis!

I've had that happen randomly, sometimes when a spy has died in a settlement, the fog of war decends. Yet if I move a unit out, it's raised. Move it back into the settlement, fow down again. Weird.

Well, as it has happened like 7 times in a row now, I KNOW its when client rulers die. Nothing except FM's banishes it (no armies, unfortunately), and even then the problem isn't really banished, cos if the FM leaves again, it'll return. But I was also interested to know, whether dead client rulers aren't supposed to be replaced? None of mine have ever been, but since it works so smoothly the first time you get one, I keep wondering why new ones don't replace the deceased...

You can knock down the level four government, rebuild it (first the military one that is a prerequisite) and get a new client ruler. You should only be out for two turns.

I treat those 2 turns as an unavoidable period of unrest while news of the client ruler's death reaches the powers that be, and until a new ruler is appointed, or more advanced government is put in place.

Also, perhaps it's a good time to exert some more authority during times like these, aka upgrade your government to a more centralized one. Then bring in one of your own.

Ok. Just wanted to know whether there was something wrong. This is just fine :)

I prefer lvl 4's to lvl 3's in the areas where I can have nothing else anyway - I like the concept of client rulers - I think of them as vassal kings, and it sorta confirms my claim of being the King of Kings, rather than merely King (so in other words, I sacrifice authority and management for the sake of pompous glory)

That does sound like a proper Shahanshah...

As for the FOW problem, wouldn't using toggle_fow 0 solve this problem? You could turn the fog of war off just long enough to make the necessary adjustments in the city.

I think putting a watchtower close to the city will work around the bug.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

I do NOT answer PM requests for help with EB. Ask in a new help thread in the tech help forum.

Well, one turn of it is eminently avoidable through use of process_cq. I tend to use it for the military pacification when I'm advancing through the government types by generation (ie 30 years).

Hey that's a GREAT idea I've been using toggle_fow, but I don't like to know too much. Watchtowers will obviously minimize my need for toggle_fow
