Knock yourselves out with google translate.

So, the hospital in Flekkefjord in southern Norway does not offer abortions, because all the gynocologists there have reserved themselves against it. Why? The reason one of them gives is that "he doesn't want stones flying through his window".

We all know who'd throw the stone, and who has thrown stones at other doctors in the past. Christian evangelicals, of which the south has plenty. One church publishes a list of all doctors and nurses who has not reserved themselves against abortion.

This is the very essence of terrorism. Harrass one doctor, and the others will keep in line out of fear of the same happening to them. Despicable. Religion of peace? Hah!

Shibumi 09:48 27/04/11
Religion. What do you expect?

That is terrible though.

I hope no one religious comes in here and ruins the circle****.

Group hug before Rhyfelwyr comes and spoil our fun with his ultimately boring tendency to be hard to pick on?

If that happens, we shall have to retreat to the metacircle**** zone.

Yo!

Will offer more nuanced reply later.

Fragony 11:33 27/04/11
One of them said so huh. Perfectly fine to refuse to do abortions, just like euthanesia. And sue that church for encitement of violence.

Yes, the article doesn't state why the other three won't do it, but my guess is that they refuse based on ethical and/or religious grounds(this is the bible belt, after all).

That's perfectly acceptable, I can't see how we can force doctors to do stuff they don't want to do. But I can't see how we as a society can tolerate doctors abstaining because they're terrorized by Taliban Junior.

Also, it's fun to note that even though this is clearly terrorizing people and using fear and violence to make others conform to your way, no terrorism charges will be had if someone is to be caught for this. Brown guys gets 15 years in prison, non-brownies get a slap on the wrist.

Husar 11:43 27/04/11
So who's the taliban here now? I thought you like the taliban???

Show me a brownie who got 15 years for vandalism, but in general yeah it's also terrorism

Only too easy! Arfan Bhatti is a proper brownie, who was charged with terrorism after shots were fired at the jewish synagogoue in Oslo. Now, he wasn't convicted on that point, so what the exact punishment would've been is hypothetical, but the prosecution wanted 10 years in prison, but got 8, and as terrorism was the only major point he wasn't convicted of, terrorist-vandalism is probably 2 years in prison.

Also, one should note that the sentence was forvaring, not a regular prison sentence. The difference is that a normal sentence limits the maximum time, while the former limits the minimum time, which could mean a de-facto life sentence.

If you're brown, that is....

Nah, these people are just some local farmers and taxi drivers...

Shibumi 14:25 27/04/11
I see what you did there.

Fail to see the point though. Pointless pun or deeper meaning?

Crazed Rabbit 15:35 27/04/11
Yup, throwing stones through windows is exactly like the Taliban killing people.

Strawman much?

The underlying mentality, the notion that those who disagree should be forced to conform, is the same.

I'd say that's probably quite true, I wouldn't be surprised at all if these people worked as farmers or taxi drivers.

Fits perfectly with my prejudices/sterotyping....

HoreTore 16:56 27/04/11
All right, I've been 'd.

The chief doctor there is in the papers today too, and says it was simply a joke, an inside joke at the hospital he for some reason told a reporter(when asked why, he responded with "no comment").

That's it, I'm going to hide in the corner for a few days now...

Rhyfelwyr 18:48 27/04/11
Damn missed all the fun...

Well, you should be commended for your honesty. I doubt anyone here would have caught you on that one due to the language barrier and the fact that the story didn't break into the wider English language press.

Subotan 23:02 27/04/11
Wow. Being trolled like that requires us to delve into the metametacircle*** zone

I feel the need to strut about a bit here.

Firstly; it's no strawman to point out the alleged attacks at the hospital were trivial compared to what the Taliban does.

Secondly, the underlying notion is radically different in that this hospital incident never occurred.

HoreTore knows that there are other countrymen frequenting this site. Tore just forstalled our accusations of crying "Wolf, Wolf".

HoreTore 09:05 28/04/11
Bah, I never had any such motive!

Anyway.... While the stone-throwing incident was IRL trolling, the rest of it wasn't.... There are churches who has published lists of all doctors and nurses not reserved againt abortion, for example...

To what end? The list must be quite long.
The Norwegian Church sacked the priests that actioned against abortion. Actions including a yellow vest with slogans and a baby doll. I haven't heard about any stronger forms of protests excluding evil looks and angry letters.

No idea.

I've only heard it talked about in the editorial&commentary section of their newspaper, Norge iDag.

Wouldn't want to be found on it, very intimidating. To that end probably, intimidation

Rhyfelwyr 12:36 28/04/11
Just because the government says it is legal doesn't mean it is OK. If the government told you to gas 6 million Jews would you do it? Would you think it was so bad if people chucked stones through the windows of the gas chambers to intimidate the guards.

WELL WOULD YOU?!?!
