Default In the Shadow of the Khan: WotK2 IC diplomacy thread

Deep in the Vatican a secret congress of diplomats is gathering.

News has begun to arrive from the east of atrocities committed by a barbarous horde of horsemen that descend upon the mighty Khwarezm Empire. It is far from clear what their intentions are and the threat, if any, seems remote and distant.

Still, seeing the opportunity to enhance his own power by acting as peacemaker, the Pope has sent messages to the rulers of the pre-eminent powers of Europe and the East inviting them to send their emissaries to his court to discuss terms on which the many wars which rack the world may be ended in the face of this potential challenge.

Sceptical and consumed by their own squabbles, the Kings of the Catholic world and Sultans of Islam reluctantly respond to the call and authorise their representatives to travel to Rome.

The Moorish Emissary did not waste time and immediately started his negotiations with the Fatimids. "The Sultan has sent me to make ammends and end this bloodshed, for this is not the time to war over petty things. We must put end to this bloody war at once"

The Roman ambassador takes his seat, all heads turning to face him.

Greetings, great emissaries of Europe! Whilst my nation has had a trecherous past, under new leadership, we also wish to propose treates of peace and friendship to all those who wish for such a deal to exist, and for those who wish for a united coallition against the Mongol forces. I am more than happy to accept Kiev's proposal of friendship, alliance and coallition against the Mongol invasion, and hope that others may one day see the light and follow the same path that I hope to come the next season. I, however, will be unable to promise any troops to the Mongol invasion cause since my Kaiser's crumbling nation would likely cease to exist should his main armies leave for Mongolia and Russia. Such a pursuit would only be possible - only - if the nations of France and Denmark are willing to halt their wars against my Kaiser's nation. Since the Polish, Hungarian and Spanish emissaries appear to be absent, I see it nesesary that we deal with the Poles and the Hungarians to the east of my lands to raise more funds to the aid the anti-Mongolian cause, since I daubt these two nations are planning to join the cause along with Kiev and I. Denmark, the lands of Poland lay within close reach to your current border, so my kaiser suggests that you could possibly direct some of your armies to their lands rather than our's?

Good day to you men, and as a token of my kaiser's good will, he has provided me with a crate of wine to make these long meetings a little more joyful and merry in nature!

The Roman ambassador takes his seat once again, awaiting a reply from the Danish and French emissaries.

The Fatimid Diplomat bows to his Moorish counterpart.

Egypt has no wish to continue a war with the Moors. Indeed, we have forgotten how it ever started. It is almost as if our past actions were not our own.

The Kieven diplomat enters the room and quickly takes a seat near the Roman ambassador. He removes his mud drenched large fur cloak and drapes it on his chair to reveal an intricately embroidered silk tunic that would be quick beautiful if not for the mud splatters that must have gotten under his cloak as he rode.

Greetings my fellow delegates! he says in a load thickly accented voice that easily caries to the far corners of the room

I come to speak on behalf of all of Rus. I am glad to hear that our recent requests for peace and friendship have not gone unnoticed
[i]he nods to the Roman ambassador[i]
but there is still much work to be done!

My lord has said I am to make plain his desires, which are twofold.

First, he seeks to reunite his won lands of Rus. The Lithuanians have grown into a barbaric horde and must be cleansed from our lands, while the traitors of Novgorod deny my lords sovereignty over their lands. These two nations shall feel the weight of our hooves on their heads soon enough, but the true danger lies elsewhere.

My lords second intention is to see this Mongol invasion stopped in its tracks.
In order to fulfill this goal, my lord as all nations pressent at this meeting for peace and alliance so that we may destroy this common foe. It is his intention to send military assistance to the proud people of the Cuman Khanate as soon as possible, as they will be the first to be struck by this horrific foe.
To other nations, he bids you send troops to the lands of Kieven Rus with all haste. It is his intention to draw a fortified line north from the Eastern shores of the Black sea that shall put all the world in awe. We shall gladly house every soldier that is sent to our lands and find them a valuable position in the line that they may fortify and stand by us in this coming fight.

My Lord does of course realize that this will make his lands the battleground against the Mongols, but this cannot be helped. These invading barbarians must be stopped and he asks now for the assistance of every nation!

The Roman ambassador holds his glass into the air, signalling a toast to the Rus.

Brothers, lets hold a toast to our great Rus brothers to the East! For they are a true example to the nations of Europe. I, for one, shall send an army and position it in the east as soon as a pathway through the lands of poland and hungary can be cleared.

The Khwarezmian diplomat walks in solemnly. He bows to the other representatives and announces:

"We have encountered the fierce invaders and they seem far removed from diplomacy or civility. As such we wish to end all current wars and squabbles, and ally with anyone willing to take up arms against this Temujin. We are moving all of our armies Eeastward and wish for them, a free passage trough enemy and allied lands alike."
The art of war, then, is governed by five constant
factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations,
when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining in the field.

    These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth;
    (4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline.
