The actual serial killer has been working for me and doing night actions the entire game as well. That wasn't an indicator.

Night Twenty -- The Streets of Fatlington


It was a fairly quiet night in Fatlington. The utter decimation of the Committee of Vigilance would do that to any town. Plus, with nearing three weeks of constant, terrible violence, the rest of the sleepy shore town had taken the hint and either boarded up or hightailed it out of town. Only the hardcores remained.

Niklas knew better than to go out at night. He knew where the line was and where he stood. His best chance of surviving was hunkering down and hoping for the best. But then, something terrible happened when Niklas was in full survival mode.

He had run out of beer.

This was unacceptable. And so, damning the risk, he went out to the nearest 24-hour convenience store to get his beer.

Checking all visual quadrants, he determined the store to be empty save for the cashier before going inside. It was safe to get his beer, after all. Just as he was paying for it, the door to the men's room burst open and two figures machine-gunned him mercilessly, draping an Italian flag over his body and taking the beer for themselves before leaving.

When the cashier determined all was clear (this time for real), he quickly revived Niklas and explained to him that an ambulance was on its way to take him to Mercy Hospital. "They never paid for the beer," he said, gritting his teeth. "They'll get what's coming to them for that." Niklas decided he needed the alcohol now more than ever.

They would have machine-gunned him mercilessly were it not for yet another figure who burst out of the women's room and brandished a large and nasty-looking machine gun of his own. Both attackers made a split-second decision that it wasn't worth it and decided to leave Niklas be, entirely unharmed.


As soon as Death is yonder saw the red knife embedded in the sidewalk ahead of him, he knew he was in trouble. Knowing better, he immediately turned tail and ran, but his lone pursuer was quickly catching up to him, not having missed a stride at all to take his knife out of the ground. This man was simply more athletic than DiY, who said a quick "Hail Mary" as he was running for his life.

The pursuer was gaining ground, but he needed to kill with authority, panache. He figured a thrown knife perfectly embedded in the back of DiY's head would meet this end. And so, he brought his arm back to throw.

"Ow!" A sharp pain immediately entered his entire arm, and he found it nearly immobile. Throwing the knife was now out of the question. He stopped stride entirely to examine the source of this pain and found that somebody had lodged a blow-dart in his throwing arm. He wasn't sure if it had been tipped with poison or not, but he decided it was best to go home and treat the wound just in case.

Nightbringer has every motive to get additional protections; Nightbringer also trusts me and I trust him, after yesterday especially, and I told him Niklas was being hit, and to cover Niklas.

Niklas, was not me, dude. I have zero powers left or I would have been using them on YOU guys to stop you from killing us. And nobody that works with me should have such powers or we would have used them in the war, to stop ourselves from dying.

No, this has nothing to do with the Clemenza.... no idea in the slightest as to why this protection failed.

The writeup might imply that an inexperienced doctor tried to save his life, but he was wounded anyway.... maybe a rogue is powerful enough to cause an injury even with protection, but I don't know that for a fact either, and the writeup does appear at least similar to one where there's no protection at all.


I am not pointing fingers at anyone, but Clemenza family both ordered protection on Niklas and had nothing to do with removing it if it was there, because he said he was joining us and I believed him. Ok so what the heck happened. I kept my word regarding everything that went down last night, including the hits on protected targets for my doctor friends here, and that's a big fat risk to my people, so... no, I kept my word. What happened, Nightbringer?


Well, he survived and if he was able to join the Clemenza as he said then he's in. I still don't understand why he was injured and not protected, though.

I did just find out from the hosts that I haven't had enough successful protections to become a surgeon, so maybe that is why. I am not sure why I'm still a doctor though as I know of at least three times in which I was one of the people protecting a person who was hit during the night.

The mechanics of being a doctor are a little fuzzy, but if you've done enough protections you become a doctor automatically.

Were you a starting doctor? If so, did someone promote to surgeon on the same protection that would have promoted you? They cannot promote 2 on the same person, IIRC.

What matters to you is number of successful protections. After yesterday (frankly, before yesterday) we neither had the skills nor the interest in stopping your protect, if anything we would have stopped SisCoy's protection and made Death is yonder die, if we were going to do that.

Niklas was capable of joining us and still should have done so, no way did we stop your protection on him. We would have gotten DIY instead.


Is there even a slight chance of a protected target being injured even during a successful protect? Let me recheck the game mechanics and the role PM.
