    Post Passport Fees

My wife & I pulled our two kids from school a couple hours early today and headed down to the post office to apply for passport books & cards for them and renew my passport as well. $490 later and we're in the pipe-line. Should take about 3-4 weeks. I'm curious to know how much orgahs from other countries pony up and how long your passports are valid ?

It's about 70GBP here, and lasts 10 years. Mine's due for renewal in a year, but I'm considering whether to renew it early since I fear if I leave it too late I might have to pony up for an ID card at the same time. Does mean I lose all the interesting stamps I've acquired in the last 10 years though.

I guess I can answer in behalf of Norway and Norwegians.
My passport expires next year and I need a new one.

Apparently it costs 450 NoK ($65 US , €51) and have guarantied delivery time of 10 days and is valid for 10 years.

For kids (0 - 16 years) it costs 270 NoK ($40 US, €30) but they are valid for shorter times:
    0 - 5 year olds = 2 years.
    5 - 10 year olds = 3 years.
    10 - 16 year olds = 5 years.

They have however strict rules when it comes to the photo used in the passports and you have to bring it with you to the police station. You might have to take it at a photographer's, and it will add another 100 NoK to the bill ($15 US, €11).

    Passport Book- Age 16 & over - $100
    Passport Book- Under 16 - $85
    Passport Card- Age 16 & over - $45
    Passport Card - Under 16 - $35
    Passport Book &
    Card - Age 16 & over - $120
    Passport Book &
    Card - Under 16 - $95
    Renewal Passport Book - $75

The card is new to us, since 2007 I think. It's all we need to travel to Canada, Mexico, Carribean, Puerto Rico. Both the Passport Book & Card are good for 10 years. Pictures are taken at the Post Office for a $15 fee.

It used to be so cheap.

Last year I had to start the application process for a fiancee visa, and while I was filling out the paper work, it jumped from around $180.00 to around $460.00. Those figures might be a little off, as I don't remember the exact cost.

Chinese Passport- 200 Yuan (~£20) with a waiting time of two weeks. It is valid for 5 years.

In short, it is dirt cheap

    Greek Passport (Renewal)

We are required to change all pre-2006 passports since the big brother wants our passports to have a chip with biometrics in it.

It cost me about 75 euros + 11 more for pictures and lasts for 5 years. Valid for 5 years but you can get one cheaper if you are ok with a smalled validity period.

It takes about 3 days to be ready.

The only problem is that the system is quite bureaucratic. You gotta go to your nearby tax office to pay the 75 euro fee and then go to your nearby passport office to submit the receipt from the tax office, your old passports, the pics you got and fill in a form.

Apparently paying at the passport office is something that the greek civil service never thought (mainly because it would mean several lazy civil servants would not be needed anymore)

The old passports were much cheaper and u only needed to give your pics, proof of address and the money to a tour operator and they d get it for you (but it would take 2 weeks)

    A more interesting question:

    How much for fake passports?
