True, but those are preferenses. Plus, I didn't say Smirnoff Ice is my favorite, I said it's my second favorite drink. I don't even compare them to be honest

How could one not love Whisk(e)y?! The reason why humanity is deeply in Scotland's/Ireland's dept. Also great drinks: beer (preferably Czech) and red wine.
Give humanity these three things and get rid of war and you basically have your utopia.![]()

Well after reading all these posts I am the third oldest here at 36, and the only one from tiny Malta, a small island the size of fly shit on the map in the centre of the Roman pool. Married with 3 kids I have been playing games for a long time now, Amiga, PS1 and PS2, and now my dearer PC. My interest in warfare and ancient history in general makes me better understand the present. I work in a Power Station, a few miles away from an ancient temple in ruins dedicated to Juno, used by Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans, destroyed by the Vandals.
Cheers.

Isn't the word teetotal? I believe teatotal would be someone like me, averaging 10-12 cups of tea a day.![]()

Bah, I don't really like Scotch. I do love wine, though. It's my most favorite alcoholic drink, deffinately. Red one, that is. With a rich, aged taste and smell. Spanish are one of my favorites, with Italian and Greek ones following behind closely.

Regarding a - well, everyone stupid enough to endanger himself and others by driving drunk is no big loss for humanity in my opinion.
Regarding b - I did not mean any offence. The "how could one not love whisk(e)y" of course was meant on an "aesthetical" level, apart from religious (or other) conviction.
@Maion: I actually never drank any Greek wine. Talking about Greek wine: I would like to try the ancient Greek way of drinking wine some time. 2/3 wine and 1/3 sea water, wasn't it?
My favourite kind of red wines are Cabernet and Zinfandel. There are quite some good of those coming from the New World (especially Chile and California).

I am a high-school teacher in my early thirties. I teach history and coach basketball on America's largest Indian Reservation. My childhood fascination with war emerged into a more academic study of history by the time I was 12 or so. I was a D student in high school (with the exception of social studies and debate) but a perfect ACT score ensured me a slot in my state's university system. In high school I smelled like piss and dressed in rags because I was a typical welfare brat whose mom spent the check on drugs. I was unpopular, except that me sheer size (6'8") meant that I was a useful talent on the basketball court. My black market connections allowed me to become popular by throwing parties. In college I continued to throw parties, and I made extra money by writing papers for rich kids. I planned on going to law school, but my grades suffered because of my excessive social life. Ultimately, the only classes that could get me up in the morning were history classes. I graduated with a BA in 2001. My postgraduate career included stints in the military, Law enforcement, and graduate school.
Today I teach history in one of the worst high schools in America. We are burdened with a 66% dropout rate and high levels of pregnancy, suicide, substance abuse (huffing) and gang violence. The cultural and geographic isolation (2 hours drive to any town) means that most teachers and administrators only last a year at this school (80% staff turnover). This is my third year. The region is desperately poor and is primarily composed of high, cold desert. Only 2% of my students can be expected to graduate from college. Hopefully I can teach my students enough about the world in general that they will at least be able to make informed decisions about our country's future. Education saved me from a life of poverty, and I hope that it can do the same for some of my own students.
I have a wife and an adorable daughter who does not smell like piss. I also coach one Arizona's top rated high school basketball teams, and if I can keep all of my players eligible, we might become the first public school in more than a decade to win a championship (typically only private schools can win this). Since I live in an isolated environment, I have plenty of free time to play elaborate video games, and EB is definitely one of my favorites. I still study history, and even with a degree in the topic I have learned a lot from EB (about Baktria/Parthia). I guess that I am the typical EB player...

Hi to all!I'm 27 years old and just a plain old greek.I actually live and work in Sparta though I grew up in Athens. And no,it's not a joke...I just recently began a 2 year long intership program in invasive radiology.I'm a doctor. After that I'm going back to Pireus to complete the final 3 years of my intership.I speak english and german apart from greek.Life as an intern in a country hospital really, really sucks.EB is one of the fun things I can do in my precious spare time.I'm engaged. We'll get married in about 8 months. As every abled greek man does,I also spent a year in the army.Charming!I got sucked into Total War when Shogun popped up.And yes,as a uni student I played ol' Shoggie while dead drunk at the break of dawn after parties.I will never be able to complete the Takeda VH/VH campaign.I also would like to express my deepest and warmest gratitude to the EB team for the best PC game ever.Especially for the AS...Beautiful!Gleemonex now has my undying admiration for attending the works of Richard Feynman. As for Maion,we're both greeks,we all know that we drink ourselves to death on every possible occasion. It's kind of an inner-circle secret.I really hope you all enjoy your student years! That's all for now...
...destruction of the empty spaces is my one and only crime...
Sorry, double post see the one underneath

I'm german, 18, and stuying geography.
My interest in EB is mainly caused by the wonderful complexity and details the team brought in to create a far more immersive and atmospheric RTW experience.
Of course a "hobby" interest in history etc. also was a reason (or perhaps even mingles with the "complexity" reason), but actually I want a game to be fun playing and not so much to be a history book.
EB just managed to merge both disciplines perfectly: Historical accuracy and a impressive game mechanics.
But I also would play every and all kind of fantasy mod for RTW if they managed to bring the same level of detail to work as EB does, but I never encountered any mod reaching this niveau. I don't care if I fight humans, elves, space marines or whales, as long as the background history and assets seem plausible and detailed, I'm in :) .
Greek wine is known for it's aftertaste and richness, just like the rest of the wines produced in Mediterranean countries. Another good type of Greek wine is the Mavrodafne (or Mabrodaphne, in EB hellenic style :-P), which is a deep-red and sweet wine drunk only warm, produced in Patras.
As for the ancient Greek way of drinking wine, it's indeed 1/3 to 2/3, but just normal waterI drink wine like this sometimes, though I prefer to enjoy it with a nice meal consisting of meat pr cheese, the types of which again depend on the type of wine you drink. For example, parmezana(sp?) cheese goes very nicely with strong wines, like the Spanish ones I forementioned. Of course, bread is a good addition as well.
Spanakoryzo: Ah, a fellow Greek! Well, though I don't drink myself to death (not too often, that is), I do enjoy the benefits of 'liquid courage' as I like to call it. You tend to dance the very best zeibekika when you're drunk, that's a known and proven fact

EB is best played after a tiresome day of Study and Chemistry Experiments.... Alongside with dinners, full of noodles and Ice Cofee...yummy...
Btw, alcohol will supress your nerve system... useful if you are present on the battlefield with a xyxton, kopis, and You need to command a large army of poor militiamen... at least they got frightned with your speech (bruup bruup bruup hoekk... (vomitting))...

I only see one post at a time(Don't know how to change it), so I got bored of reading them all.
I did read the first couple and the last couple. Well, to go on, I'm 20 years young, I live in Texas, America and go to college here. College takes up most of my day time and then working at a freakin' Subway takes up my nights. So, usually I only have 1-3 hours to play EB a day, just because I sacrifice my much needed sleep. With some 211 Steel Reserves and some cigarettes, EB is so much more fun!
That's how my nights go when I play EB and the only other games I play are anywhere from Total War games, J-RPGs and my favorite PS2 game of all time... Romance of the Three Kingdoms! OH! I can't believe I almost forgot, I also work on the mod that I'm part of, it's called Rise of the Nations: Prelude to War. Long title right? I also have friends in many foreign countries that I talk to. That's about it for my boring lifestyle onto the next boring life story...
I'm a british, tea loving, beer guzzling, game-a-holic and in my spare time away from EB and X-box 360; I am studying Aerospace Engineering. I need to sort out my priorities! I put tea before Beer! And both of them before EB!
Do you find something funny with the name Biggus Dickus?
in the EB PBeM
I'm 24, and a South African. I have ancestral heritage in most of Northern Europe but mainly Norway, France and Wales. I am a research psychologist which is basically a nice kind of social engineer. I play EB because how can one not? I have an interest in history because I have an interest in people.
I'm surprised that there are only two Africans posting (me and Majd il-Romani), are there any others out there? And women?
I want to do a PhD. on the value of gaming for identity formation and social relations, but I really want the methodology to be a self-narrative and to be sponsored the mother-machine to play, I mean collect data.
@ Irishmafia2020, I hear you on the rather dire circumstances. I am currently doing health research/epidemiology/interventionist psychology in an area where HIV prevalence among people aged 25-35 is 49%. Unemployment is close to 80% overall, though highest in young men. Good thing they've got me.
By the way, I drink water, and occaisionally milk.
Actually, I'm just curious, how many of you prefers to play EB while eat or drink something?... I just remember that morning time speech...
A Battle is never an easy thing to face, especially before breakfast... never mind... time to feast after we finished up these dogs...
Eating something when playing EB is great... Unless you look into amassed hordes of Gaesatae or Tindalote... (I force them to wear loincloths, when I play EB in front of girls or kids)... The Skadugangonez is still modest when naked... looks unclear because their black pitch!!!![]()

I'm 21, German, student of media computer science in Dresden (in the east of Germany).
Since childhood I've been fascinated by the ancient times, especially the Romans and computer games. Finding EB, thus, was just a matter of time.
Reading all these nordic replies renews my wish to start learning Finnish. Who knows, I might go and work in Finland someday.
Oh, and I don't drink alcohol at all.
EB video guy.
