Push it to the point when a unit is so badly thought of, you have to disband it rather than try and retrain
I understand that!

And perhaps, the named special units going into the game are an example of elite units having already won those honors.

Still more wait and see questions.

When will it end???

When the game comes out, or even later?

I came to think of one thing. Apart from naming cities, units and factions, wouldn't it be interesting if you could also name your newly born family members? It could of course be abused, but it would also allow you get more attached to your empire. Maybe you would even start to care for them and not just have them killed off in case they have bad traits (or at least feel bad about it when you do this. (Then, you might also regret the name that you gave them and purposefully have them charge uphill into a mass of waiting bayonets (as you have always done.))) (Actually I'm not entirely sure if there are others around here who share my nasty tendency for general mistreatment (pun intended)).

...

I really like parentheses.

If all of my Generals had their own custom name it might possibly persuade me to stop throwing people with awful traits straight into a row of spears :P Or maybe not.

Sadly I doubt this paticular feature will be in Empire. It would be great if it was though.

However, what you can do is to name your general's bodyguards. I simply ought to have a group of them called "The Baby Sitters". Also, when playing as the Persians, I will name them Immortals just for the sake of it.

So you are another will to encourage the Jacobites to rebel and win?

Wonder if the uniforms change then? Royal Scots Grays anyone?

Yep, the Jacobites are in there as an emergent faction. They won't be playable however, so I don't think you get the option of supporting them. :(

We don’t know how the Support/Oppose Rebellion works yet.

I for one would do my best to support anyone opposed to King George!!!

Up the Cause! Up the Stuarts! Down with the German Lardy!

You could always gift them a colony of yours and watch as they carve out a country for themselves in some distant land.

Or perhaps you could be really generous and abandon the UK to them.

Wait two-three months after the release of ETW and I bet someone have made them playable by then!

Go to prefrences.txt file and there should be line "EDIT_SETTLEMENT_NAME: FALSE"
Just change the value to TRUE and you can edit settlements names.

Oh, I see.

I thought you all meant you could actually re-name the cities in-game, like in Civilisation.

With regards to naming units / armies / ships etc. in ETW, is there any definite confirmation of this from CA?

After GTA IV's unfulfilled promises, I'm wary of believing hype until it's confirmed.

Yes there has been very definite confirmation, supported by screenshots.

In Medieval 2: Total War and RTW: BI, you can just go to the screen where you build buildings, then left click where it says something like "Milan" - Large Town, and you should be able to edit the name of the city/castle.

I guess I'd better start thinking of names for stuff, then.

I'll probably theme my ships. My Atlantic fleet can be named after animals (HMS Bear, HMS Eagle, etc.) and my channel fleet after Roman emperors (HMS Tiberius, HMS Pertinax, etc.). Or something along those lines.

As for land units, that could be a bit trickier. Maybe Roger's Framers (As in the rabbit) could do for one. The Black Hand could be my really hard, scary infantry.....

hhhmmmm......... Choices
