I was sort of thinking that the faction leader be like the senator with the most power in Rome or something...need a name for it. And the Heir would be his closest friend in politics.

The link is a guide for historically accurate rome playing. The consular armies (Early ones) were half italic allies of Rome and half fully roman soldiers.
