Thread: Standard or Special Unit Version?

Collectors Edition with the 6 in-game extra units. Wish I coulda gotten the Amazons also. I don't expect them to be anything special, just something different. Generally buy the Collectors Editions as I usually enjoy the extras. Sides, I'm an old fart who can afford it.

Just to be clear, I'm definitely not advocating a boycott. I just think this tiered system is a mistake that will lead to unecessary conflict.

If these units improve, or are part of, the game shouldnt they be included in the price?

    collectors edition avaliable with

    1 hip flask
    1 nautical compass
1 wooden box of some sort
    1 map
    6 special units

and i think there mite be something else

130$ AUD from EB - ONLY PLACE IN AUS THAT HAS IT, they got it exclusively so they didnt have to price match. and its actually 140 unless u get the 10$ discount for preordering.

Special Unit most likely, but only because(and as long as, haven't ordered yet) it costs the same or even less from the UK as the standard edition costs here.

$20 extra US dollars for 6 units? Uh, no thanks. Don't get fancy ass deals in assbackwards Australia (where the game was made no less...)

Getting mine form the other TW forum (not sure if i am allowed to mention them here?) and their mini site on Amazon. Ordered the special forces on becasue it was only £35 and I had £11 left on a gift voucher, so it was the same price as the normal issue (£24.00).

Amazon still only has the basic (Amazon.com not amazon.co.uk.)

Hopefully once it goes gold more of the online shops will have it

Will it matter what version you get in terms of mod accessibility?

No, as far as I can tell, the only difference is the extra units.

I am in the United States and I will be getting the Collectors addition. I want Rodgers rangers, it is after all how States actualy beat the French in the French and Indian war. I already pre-orderd while do not get a fancy flask and compass. I will still get the map of course and the 6 units. No one listens to me when I say we have the special forces addition out on lunch in the USA

Hey if anyone has a link to a store that is not Eb games, Gamestop, or amazon.co.uk, I am all ears and will be happy to click said link and go buy SF or CE.

Until I see that though, I'm stuck with standard.

i remember hearing this from TWC, is that you can complete certain requirements and get the same units with the special version, like the irish french unit can be unlocked by having a certian tech an controlling ireland (DURK-DUUURG ) so i really see no need to purchase a version that is just a slightly spiced up original, and the original can be made "special" with modding

To be honest, the special unit version sounds like crooking. No game, usually, has cost (yes that is the correct participle, without -ed) more than $50. Charging that much more for a few units is not only unusual, but way too much. And because this is happening, it also leads me to have apprehensions about the quality of the actual game.

    Funny pever, funny :P

If anyone has a link that I can get a boxed copy and not spend 2 years downloading that is not the aforementioned shops.

    I'd apprecaite it :)

What annoys me is the way that different stores have versions with different special units. So not only do you have to pay more to get them, you still can't get a single comprehensive version.

Standard. I want to play as Prussia (I feel an affinity to the Germans) and I don't want the Brits sending Victories, Gurkhas and Rogers at me just when I think I'm the greatest ever superpower. I'll stick with death's head hussars thanks.

Standard. $20 for 6 units is steep -- I'll hang onto the money until they put out an expansion.
