It would seem to give Steam an unfair marketing advantage over and above its already exclusive online distribution.
That's the point.

It's a 15 gig game, even with 2 days prior preload, i'm sure Steam is figuring only people with fast net are going to actually get it that early, aka hard core gamers. So it's just a minor perk for people who they think may buy the sf edition from steam.
