hi guys :)
i'm the new kid here, playing Quintus Aemilius.
Just tried my first story! :)
Just a Q. I've added in the status thread my request being moved to Rome.
Is that the proper way, or do i need to do it myself everytime?
And is there a rank needed to be able to speak in the curia? or can everyone have a say atleast?
I'm not sure if i got that correct from the FAQ, that everyone had a place in the senate right away.
Does the avatar have to be in Rome to be able to debate? How do we get around this RP issue with avatars being somewhere way off and participating in a debate in Rome? :p
one more edit: do we have an irc channel?

Hey mini, nice to have a fresh face around here.
If you put in your status that you want to be moved, someone will move you when they take the save, you don't need to take it everytime.
You do need to be in Roma if you want to debate as your character, however you may see people using representatives to speak for their character while their character is away.
You do not need to be a certain rank to speak. Rightnow you are a Tribunus and can join an army. 2 battles and you could have your own Legion! Head over the the Campus Martius to look at the Legios. There is an opening in the Legio III (my legion) if you want to join.

Thanks
i'll definitly join in a few turns. Only problem is, i want to get to Rome for a season or so first, to grab my character some ancilliaries, because in my experience (although it has been ages since i played) these are easier to achieve in Rome than on a battlefield.
Should I be minstaken, i'll gladly join your army right away :p
Haha okay sounds good mini, you're always welcome in the Legio III. Join whenever you want to.

You can do it either way, just make sure that your SOT post is exactly as you want it w/ regards to who can move you when, where, and why - othewise it will lead to unnecessary drama. I find it best to allow others to move me when I am not in charge of anything, helps speed the game along.
You can speak - and we want to hear from you! Lively debate and discussions keep this game flowing. We as a group decide where the path of Rome goes in the game. Your input is necessary. You can speak, vote, and second proposals in the Curia; but you may not propose edicts until you are a Legatus, and you may not propose Charter Ammendments until you are a Dux.
You do not have to be in Rome to speak as yourself in the Curia; but I and others feel that that is poor RP. You can get around this by sending letters from your main character and having an aide deliver them or read them (you can even PM other players to read your letters for you if you do not wish your aide to speak in the chambers).
Additionally, some players have chosen to RP a friendly compatriot in the Senate who seems to always be present when their own avatar is off fighting battles or conducting some other business. You can get the best feel for your own way to play by reading the Curia/stories/OOC/ battle report threads.
Enjoy the game!
Not sure about that one

Just wondering: is it possible to have a thread with everyones ingame character in it?
I mean the page which lists their traits/ancilliaries?
Which is updated once in a while?
nice way of keeping track on the progress of other people's stats, cross-reference between player traits and the way it's being roleplayed so you can react on that player in a much better way, etc?

Go the the Senate Library thread. That should help you

aah k nice :)
Of course another question.
Howcome the aedile is lower than a quastor?
No criticizm, just curious ;p
anyway, fabulous concept, i'm going to love this
an Aedile is a Tribunus who gets elected to Aedile. To become a quastor you have to do like 6 battles or something.
You could be elected Aedile right now, but you could not become a Questor right now..

However Aediles cannot serve in the army, at least until they have served their term as Aedile.

I'm guessing I probably will know soon enough.
Is the next congressional session going to happen this turn or after the next?

How dare you quote wiki as a good resource, it hurts my eyes.. :D
I've just checked, even on wiki it says that the quaestor was lower than the aedile :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursus_honorum
http://www.livius.org/ct-cz/cursus/cursus_honorum.html
The only way into the senate was quaestor, and in the later republic Tribune of the Plebs (if you were a plebeian, patricians still had to resort to the quaestorship
Aediles were certainly responsable for more than 1 building. If I recall correctly, the whole public works. Also they were responsable for a few important festivities.
Patricians -who were not able to make their name being a tribune of the plebs - usually spend a lot of money as aedile to make their name famous in order to be remembered 3 years later in the praetor elections. Usually they spend so much money on this, that they had to rape their praetorappointed province in order to pay back their debts.
Questors were usually accompanying generals to their companies, running the 'financial side' of things. In reality, they were (ab)used by the general to run errands, send messages down the command line and do all other small jobs the general nor his legates were prepared to do
Well, the rules are made, no point in changing them :D But still, it felt ackward seeing the aedile below a quaestor, as the latter is actually the junior position in ancient rome.
Though I do understand that aediles were only elected for the city of Rome, and since our avatars aren't usually in Rome and quaestors were more numerous and spending time with generals in provinces, for the purpose of this enterprise it is convenient to place the questor above the aedile, as this game is mostly military orientated.
Aediles didn't leave rome nor participated in any army activity.
BUT, stricktly speaking, quaestor IS the junoir position.
Anywayz, doesn't matter :D I just like to be right ;-)

Due to the fact that we have no personal currency, riches and the like for this sort of game, these sort of things can be overlooked. However, we did discuss the positions of Aedile and Quaestor a while back, and we came to the conclusion we have now.

I wasn't criticizing the game rules by any means :D
Not at all. I'm only explaining the situation
EDIT: Whoops, I never did finish my battle report, I'll do some more now....yay, done!

so, is the event accepted?
