Are you sure that you arent playing as the Sauros? Cuz otherwise how the heck did the AI Sauros that out a Central European Super army?
If you look closer you'll see that the sauromatae were actually stopped by the superstacks, their most western city is Cotiune (sp?) which doesn't have a scripted stack, they've captured it a few times in my games but its quite rare.
