    Welcome, Ambassador Vijaypal

I trust your journey was swift, what with that magnificent steed and all.

Seigneur Bland, if you are as committed to the common peace as your dealings with Sultan Salahuddin suggest, then there is no need for you to feel unwelcome here. I do hope that King Baldwin and the Armenian Takavor can find a peaceful solution to the question of Antakiyyah.

The Roman emissary notes the arrival of the Rajput man with considerable interest,

Rome sends her warmest regards to our distant eastern neighbors! We are pleased to see you have arrived in good health and unmolested.

I wonder what it would cost to import a quantity of these beasts you ride? A matter for the distant future, I am sure, but please keep it in mind. As soon as the journey can be made a man will be sent to arrange a trade agreement with your people.

Rome also wishes to announce that the waters of the Bosphorus strait are closed to all foreign ships except those bearing trade. If you wish to purchase passage for your ships please contact me in advance to arrange the matter. Needless to say overland passage of armies across the same region is similarly barred, and no price will be negotiated on that subject, but diplomats and merchants are welcome.

Reports of war between the Seljuk Turks and the state of Georgia are most distressing to my Emperor. Does any nation here have contact with the Seljuks to call them here to account for their actions?

We do not have contact with them at this time, Roman. We are prepared to view them as the primary aggressors in any conflict in which they find themselves, since they are apparently unwilling to engage in honest diplomacy. I'd suggest that your emperor look to the safety of his people, since I cannot answer for the rogue Seljuk state. I will not unsheathe the sword of the Prophet against any nation that defends themselves or their allies from their unwarranted aggression, however I will not condone the slaughter of their people or the destruction of non-military buildings in their cities.

They kill the people of Armenia. That is all I have to know. Sadly I have not the ability to stop them from shedding my peoples blood.

The woman looks to the Roman.

We see the need to police your coasts, Roman masters. But we hope you intend to police no further? The Black Sea has become quite sacred to the Qara-Suu and we value our liberties there.

She turns to the general court.

On that note, the Qara-Suu humbly lay claim to the cities of Kutaisi and Ani. They border the sacred waters and we have already negotiated with the Great Seljuks-- for we have brothers amidst the Armenians and Azeri there also, no?

We are nomads and force no ideology or religion on those cities we own, and we hope such a deal soothes those who are concerned with the Seljuks' expansion there...

The sudden sounds of horns, The retreat call for the Abbasids are heard, moments later what remains of the Caliph's once proud army, simply reduced by no other than the Sultan of The Sejuk's army. Soon after the remains of the caliph's army reaches the walls and moves inside of the city. Thousands (Two Full stacks) under blue banners and flags soon march into sight of Baghdad's walls, and surround the city. A lone messenger with a white flag rides forth. A messenger for the court.

Diplomats from close and far lands alike. The Seljuk Empire wish's no harm to every one here, Our war is with the Caliph of the Abbasid. None of you will be harmed, and all of you, will be aloud to leave by your will. We, the all mighty seljuks have destroyed the Georgians, and all that stood in our way. Now Abbasids Disgrace us with rejecting our alliance proposal that we so generously offered to them. We have a new offer for them.

He opens up the scroll and reads off the list.

    - The Complete surrender of Baghdad

    - The Execution of the Caliph by our hands.

    - Become Vassal of the Seljuk Empire

If you follow all of this, Your heir will be spared, and what is left of your empire will be spared. We await your answer. If no answer is provided... or the absence of my return to the Seljuk Empire will destroy every hoe you have.

The 'execution' of the Caliph? Within the halls of the holiest city of Islam? My... these Seljuks are brave...

The Seljuk Diplomat would look outside the window and doesn't face back to talk.

Either way... The Abbasids will be crushed if they deny. At least one can say the Seljuks offered some mercy for those who disgraced us...

Who disgraced you, you stinking swineherd ? You are the disgrace. GHULAMS!!!!, kill this piece of camel dung and send his head back to the Seljuk Sultan.

Though the honorless Seljuk dog may kill me by stealth and with a knife in the night, my last act before I reach Paradise is to declare a Fatwa on the Seljuks and their naked aggression.

The Diplomat would be only laughing while being dragged to his death.

What a foolish last act, As it is, No one will follow such a weak ruler. As you side with Infidels, You fled the battle due to you were a Coward! I face my death honorbly while you let your men die in battle and let you run behind walls. There is no escape, You will die and your empire will fall to our Sultan's Hand!

The door would close, in which a slice would be heard and silence.

The emissary from Rome bows to the delegate of the Qara-Suu and replies,

Rome makes no grand claims to the waters of the Black Sea, indeed we wish them to remain open to trade for all. We anticipate our diplomat reaching your lands very soon to arrange our tributary relationship; we will also reiterate that Rome makes no claims to the northlands.

The emissary sniffs deeply from his pomander before continuing with a distasteful look on his face,

Now, what is this conflict between the Muslims? The Seljuks are on the march once more is it? Does the Caliph ask aid of his people, and do any come at his call? The battles are far from Roman lands but we pray that a peaceful resolution can be found so that the trade of silk out of the east is not disrupted. Rome is officially neutral in this conflict, should it ever reach her borders, and offers to trade with whomever controls the roads out of the east.

She likewise bows to her Roman masters.

We expect only good things from our lords in Rûm.

Then she looks to the door, where beyond the sounds of the Seljuk's lifeless body dragging in the streets can still be heard.

But these latest events here in Baghdad also concern me.

    She turns to the court.

The Muslim kings have remained quiet thus far. Will this fatwa be answered by the other lords of Islam? Or will the Caliph find himself alone in this endeavor?

The main hall suddenly thunders as the sounds of the siege steam in through the recently opened doors. A short, limber man slips through the doors and quickly shuts the noise back outside. He takes advantage of the momentary silence to introduce himself,

“I am Shaalm, messenger of the Great Imam Murshed, ruler of the Imamate of Oman. I bring word directly from the Great Imam Murshed.” He grabs two papers from his pocket, but quickly stuffs one of them back in, when he notices Captain Amr approaching. Captain Amr attempts to take messenger Shaalm into a side room to talk in private before he continued, but Shaalm slips underneath Amr’s arm and proceeds to read the letter in his hand. “Dear dignitaries, I am the Great Imam Murshed of the Imamate of Oman. There is a great plague spreading across the land that threatens those of all faiths. For those who believe in the one true Allah, the blasphemous Seljuk have not only insulted this great court of peace by not attending, but they now threaten its very existence. For those of other beliefs, the Seljuk are a parasite and will infest these great lands from the inside out. Therefore I encourage those of all faiths to join the Jihad, for this war is not just about the sanctity of Islam, but the survival of all those who wish to remain free of the Seljuk plague. This is why I would like to declare that the Omani shall be joining th....” at this point Captain Amr grabs Shaalm by the collar, informs the court that 'they have important matters to discuss,' and drags him off to a private chamber, leaving the main hall in silence.

Shaalm was only seen briefly at supper, before quickly retiring to his quarters.

In the evening, with the Caliph too busy to join them, many of the dignitaries return to the main hall to relax and talk (Shaalm notably not among them). Captain Amr had some wine and talked a bit, but soon retired to his quarters. Political conversations quickly turn into whispers and murmurs of the day’s development: ‘Why had the Omani sent a new delegate?’; ‘How did the short, seemingly frightened, mouse like man Shaalm get past the siege?’; 'Why had Captain Amr stopped him in the middle of the letter?' Some of the more observant dignitaries even discussed the subtle change in Shaalm during his short appearance at supper, as if an entirely different man then the one seen earlier was sitting beside them. As if a dark cloud had settled over Shaalm. Most, of course, attributed this to his private ‘discussions’ with Captain Amr. The dignitaries were so caught up in their quite conversations that non noticed the short, limber shadow scurrying along the far wall. The shadow quickly jumped behind a column as a servant passed by. Once the coast was clear again, the shadow slide down an empty corridor and out of sight. Moments later, there was a loud clash and then a booming, almost ominous laughter, flowing out of the corridor and filling the palace. Then a loud scream and the crash of a platter preempted a servant girl as she ran out of the corridor shouting only one word, “Assassin!” Guards and dignitaries alike drew weapons and rushed the corridor the servant had just vacated. They all stop when they came upon Captain Amr, still laughing, as he stood over a lifeless body, laying face down in a pool of its own blood. Captain Amr finally stopped laughing; reached down to turn the body over and search its pockets. It’s the messenger Shaalm, covered in what appear to be a blood soaked assassin’s robe. Amr fishes from the robes a paper, takes a quick look, and quickly stuffs it in his own pocket. Those closest see only that it is some sort of official document, with a sketch that appears to be of Captain Amr, although the blood splatter make it hard to make out. Captain Amr mumbles something about “...Murshed...,” “...it’s started...,” and “...Grand Admiral...” Recognizing there’s a congregation around him, he addresses the crowd, “It appears there is urgent business for me to attend to back home. I will leave my first mate, Femr Ushem, here as my temporary replacement.” He than pulls a servant aside and tells him, “don’t worry about cleaning this up,” he indicates Shaalm’s body. “I will have my crew do it. They’ve gotten lazy stuck at port for so long and besides, if there is one thing they know, it’s how to scrub a deck.” With that, Amr wishes everyone a good night and heads for the exit. Even at this time of night sounds of the siege can still be made out as Amr opens and closes the main doors. The only other disturbance that night is when Femr Ushem and a troop of sailors (all of which take their boots off outside) let in the siege sounds one last time that night. Femr Ushem retires to Amr’s quarters while the sailors work through the night to make the floor spotless once more.

The next day in the courtroom, the lady of the Ghūl publicly addresses the temporary Omani dignitary.

So, master Omani, is the Imamate truly committed to the Caliph's Fatwa... or is this merely one man's opinion?

Femr Ushem, an old ragged sailor obviously lost in the myths and traditions he was raised, scowls at being addressed by a woman. He stares at the old woman as if sizing her up, but after a few moments, he grunts than says,

“You heard enough of the letter; Murshed obviously is ready for war.” Femr grumbles something about ‘land lovin’ fool,’ then continues, “And there are many who would follow him, no doubt.” Femr again grumbles something about ‘land lovers’ and ‘real leader.’ “The Grand Admiral hasn’t issued his decision on the matter yet, of course the armies would follow Murshed to the ends of the earth if asked.” Femr starts mumbling again, ‘...end up there...following a land lover...lead them right off the edge...’ At this point Femr starts to head slowly back to his quarts lost in his personal rant. His mumbling becomes quite incoherent at this point, except for his frequent curses, many of which are in languages most of the dignitaries have never heard of.

Two sailors who had stayed to assist Femr Ushem got up. While one brought Femr a stiff drink to settle his rising temper down the other addressed the court.

“I am sorry, for Femr Ushem’s behavior. Talking about Murshed gets him worked up. As for commitment, the Grand Admiral wishes to asses the situation before committing forces to such an undertaking.” The sailor than directed his attention to the Lady of the Qara Suu, “You have my deepest apology for any insult Femr might have implied; he is deeply entrenched in his traditions and won’t budge.”

The three sailors then proceed out of the hall, presumably to find a more discrete drinking hole where they could more properly express themselves for an evening.

Yussuf rises, elegantly emptying his cup of wine before he does so.

In the name of my Sultan, I condemn the siege we are witnesses to right at this time. He does not and will never acknowledge Seljuk dominion over Baghdad. You Seljuks are just greedy and warmongering bastards looking for more power and bloodshed where ever you go! Why do you turn your mighty armies against your brothers of faith, when they have been nothing but peaceful toward your nation? Tell your Sultan that had Ayyubid forces been closer, he would have seen hell on earth. May those who once fought against brothers now rightfully fight against barbarians! Our hearts and prayers are with you, noble Abbasids, and we hope you can fight back these mindless brutes betraying the trust of Allah. We lack the options to aid the Caliph's call for Jihad at this time, but should they arise we will seize them!

Anger pulses through his face as he tries to calm down. Another zip of wine seems to partly do the trick, and he clears his throat before looking out over the assembled again.

In other news, the Holy City of Medina has fallen to Ayyubid warriors, and the Al-Masjid al-Nabawi, Mosque of the Profet, is under the protection of Sultan Salah ad-Din. Mekka too will soon be brought into righteous hands, once more.

Ayyubid armies are also preparing to clear the southern parts of Egypt from the Makurian savages. The Sultan is open to trade and cooperation with all civilized nations, but the Africans are not counted among them. Their brutality has brought pain and misery upon the people along the Nile for too long, and it must end.

Throwing a glance out the open doors, he sighs and takes his seat again.

A few days past, the Seljuk seige grows louder, and great seige towers arise from the ground as high as the city walls. It seems that the army is simply growing, due to small regiment of cavarly, and mercenaries that are being payed to fight for the Seljuks, At night, Music could be over heard, while the seljuks enjoyed all of the trade convoys they loot that were coming to baghdad. It would only be a short time before they launched the attack on the defenders.

The old Persian diplomat emerges finally from his cambers and speaks with disgust

The Seljuk's who refuse to come to the council in peace, come instead with an army?
it shows the character of foolish cowards.....

The old Persian then sits down, gazes around the excited and frigthen council and reveals and gestures at a parchment...

I have spoken with my government, my couriers are quite cunning at escaping the siege, but he returns with sour news,
I hear that our might Shah, who is most displeased and disgusted with the actions of these cowardly Seljuk fools have refused my request to send an immediate army directly to Seljuks claiming that they are unable, and indisposed elsewhere to presently invade the Seljuks.

he bows his head slightly in shame, and slowly crushes the parchment in his hand

I am sure... the mighty shah has his...reasons....
    he glares angrily
    ....
Suddenly he stands up with a jolt, and his eyes are lighten up with fiery passion, he clutches his sheathed sword and grins maliciously.
Today my friends, is a good day to die!!! Release the hounds of war, I shall at least take some of those Seljuks before they do me in.

He unsheathes his sword and proceeds to the defense on the city walls, with an excitement and fervor of a young kid,

Very soon after the Persian Diplomat left, The air was filled with Seljuk War horns, and the towers rolled toward the walls. The defenders faught valently. but only did minor casualties to the seljuks, As the armies scaled to 20 to 3 in Seljuk Favor. The low bottom tier of the army did their duty, and opened the gates, The only thing after that could be heard in the court room was screams from the approach of the Seljuk's Royal Horsemen, that war horses were covered in plate mail, much as the rider. After an hour of screams since the gates were breached, The council doors would finally open. It was a ran-sacking crew. As they all grinned at the diplomats, and at what ever they had with them. A group of men followed behind them.

Fools! Get out of here, This is the only house not to be added to our purse!

The men would hurry out, and heavily armored and bloody solders entered the room, with Three men with obvious high superior status, The one leading the two would be no other than Sultan Arslalan, followed by his youngest brother by significant age, and by a highly respected general of the Seljuk Armies. He would walk into the room, almost ignoring the diplomats, seeing what the court was... and smiled...

So... This is what my father said... Baghdad... The court... Finally mine...

One of the soldiers would interrupt him. Sultan, We have captured the Caliph alive after his horse died in combat, What do we do with him?

The Sultan would almost be ignoring him... but simply smiled at the soldier. The Caliph refused our most generous offer, and killed our diplomat we sent to the court room... What should we do? Maybe one of these diplomats would know what to do to this man...? Before any one could answer he quickly held up his finger. Wait... I have a great Idea... Let us show these... Proud Diplomats what we do to this monster... Tie a rope around his ankle, put it on one of our horses, and Ride until sunset within the city walls, Let him bond with the fallen, being dragged in his own blood...

The Soldier simply nodded and went outside, and held the door opened, There you saw the soldiers get rid of the caliph's once decorated armor, and threw him on the ground, he moaned and the rope was tied to his right ankle... a second of there was to watch after the Caliph attempted to say something, the sultan would just be annoyed now.

    Let him suffer! RIDE!

At the command, the rider took off, and the caliph was swept away, his body bouncing and dragging off the dead corpse and ruined pathways. The Sultan would only be grinning, and walked out to see the rest of his prize, the general followed, but the younger brother stayed and sighed, and looked to the crowd.

Excuse my brother... He is still abit angry on this war that could have been prevented... any ways... Good to meet you all, I am the Sultan's younger brother, Mahmud of Gorgan. I will be placed head of the Diplomat council. Please make yourself calm as possible, I know you were in the middle of a battle. It is all over though, The Abbasid Caliphate is doomed, As it was, Our armies quickly caught up to the son of the Caliph and was killed. Though, Now that this war is now over... Hopefully my brother's thirst of power will be quenched... Any ways... I hope this town will go back to normal... soon....

He would sigh and sit where the caliph used to sit, awaiting any barrages of insult toward his empire or what not due to this whole incident.

Rising slowly, staring at the Seljuk with shock in his eyes, his face changes into an expression of grief and anger.

There is no need to curse more over the Seljuk barbarism shown here. All I know is we have lost a noble man, a true servant of Allah, in a most humiliating and disgraceful way. I stand by my statement of never accepting Seljuk rule over Baghdad, and definitely not in this way.

You aren't worthy of ruling in such a grand city. I will take my leave, and if my Sultan deems it proper to send another representative here, he will do so. I however, will rather spend my days among the fierce Africans. Savage as they may be they are still are more worthy representatives of civilization than these Seljuk mongrels.

With one last evil glance at the invading Sultan's brother, he pulls his cape tightly around himself and rushes out the doors.

The Roman diplomat, having remained calm throughout the troubles, watches the proceedings impassively. When they are complete he sniffs deeply from his pomander and addresses the Seljuk diplomat in a wry tone,

"One presumes Christian representatives will still be welcome in Baghdad? The Emperor has little concern for which faction rules here so long as trade continues to flow, so for my part I acknowledge your accession and congratulate you on your conquest."

The emissary then issues a formal bow before resuming his seat to await an answer, sniffing from his scent ball perhaps just a little more often than usual.

This city will be ofcourse opened to non islamic diplomats. My brother is a conquerer, not a holy soldier. He cares little to expand any more west than he has, That is why he so generously offered Georgian settlements to the Kypchak, and made a peace agreement with the Crusaders, to insure that there would be no "Provoked" reasons. As it is, Our empire is strict on borders, but we will allow trade of silk and such to resume to the west. We appreciate buisness from any nation, as long as they do not provoke us in any way with hostility.

Yes. We do so appreciate your willingness to negotiate with us concerning those territories bordering the Black Sea.

The woman laughs slightly, looking around at the dust from the fires and smoldering debris rolling in from the city outside.

And perhaps this is a good time to bring to light certain occurrences, Seljuk masters.

    She coos.

So, sorry lords. We mean no offense in this news we offer to you; but I'm afraid the late Caliph hired us to war with you. We were preparing our armies for the offensive (3 stacks), when the Caliph... perspired.

    She smiles.

But, rest assured masters, we owed no loyalty to the Caliph; only his coin. But now... with his coffers in the delicate hands of our Seljuk masters... our loyalties have changed.

    She bows once more.

Young Orloomo Bland has remained unflustered throughout the commotion, retaining his usual composure and betraying no emotion in his unusually handsome face.

Having watched the Caliph dragged from the chamber and received the addresses of the Seljuk Sultan, the Roman ambassador and the Qara-Suu, he flicks a lock of dark curly hair away from his face and rises, nonchalantly, to say his piece.

We welcome the Seljuk Sultan as he takes control of this court. In doing so he has demonstrated his strength and gained the fear and respect of all.

The Caliph was decadent and complacent and his overthrow represents the end of a long history of decline from the days when his predecessors (and betters) the Ummayads held sway.

We are pleased to confirm our acceptance of the Sultan's offer of peace. He will find us true to our word, so long as he is true to his.

Cool Re: Lords of the East - Council Chambers

The sounds of the Seljuk’s victory celebration still filled the streets of Baghdad, and it all comes flooding into the court chamber as Captain Amr bursts into the main hall. With excitement and joy emanating from every ounce of his being, he shuts the door behind him and addresses the court.

“Rejoice and praise Allah! I bring joyous news, the “great” Imam Murshed has fallen to his knees at my lord’s feet. The Imamate has collapsed and the Omani Admiralty has risen from the waves. Grand Admiral Walid now leads his people as it always should have been. In his wisdom, he has left the ruling family intact as the ceremonial figure heads of Omani. He believes they are still important as spiritual guides to the people and as his generals on the battlefield, although Murshed himself has been banished to our most distant colony.”

At this point, Captain Amr pauses for a second, his overjoyed excitement fading into a more serious manner. He continues,

“Although the Grand Admiral does not approve of the Seljuk’s attack on the lands of those faithful to Allah, he feels that, since the past can not be changed, as long as the Seljuk truly do not wish to continue to attack the lands of other faithful, then he would like to welcome the great Sultan and the Seljuk to this humble court of diplomacy and peace.”

Once finished addressing the court, Captain Amr goes over to celebrate with Femr Ushem and the two sailors. He pulls out a container of hard Omani navy liquor from inside his coat and passes it around. The four party late into the evening, drinking with anyone who would join them. At one point in the evening, Femr made a toast to the whole court. He raised his glass and said, “Here’s to the Omani Admiralty and the overthrow of the oppressor.” “And to our gracious new host,” Amr added with a smile, “May they fair better then the previous.”

The old woman receives a letter. A few in the room notice the bright red blotches—shaped like an eye—etched onto the scroll. She hands it to her young servant boy, who whispers the message into her ear. Then she nods, smiles, and addresses the Omani

This is truly wonderful news, our Omani masters. We hope your new found sovereignty enjoys many years of peace and prosperity in these lands.

Then she turns to the general court.

Though many in this room have become acquainted with them already, for those who do not know, the Stygian Eye are an assassin and spy guild internationally based throughout these lands.

Currently, it spans kingdoms and many of your brothers and sisters here today are in its service

    She smiles.

But for those who are not… and for those who are… I would like to announce that the guild has grown to such an extent that it is now officially accepting bounties. A Poet has arrived in Baghdad to take your requests. I will relay any messages to him myself, if you wish to remain anonymous. Or, you can simply write him yourselves.

The Poet represents any and all factions within the Stygian Eye. He is anonymous… as you are to him. And I know he looks forward to hearing from you all soon.

She bows low before taking her seat.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
“The Poet” represents our member factions. If you wish to remain anonymous, PM me first and I will then PM The Poet.

Requests are taken on a simple commissioned basis. We handle spying and assassination. Base costs are 50 gold per settlement revealed, 50 gold per agent/army revealed, 500 gold per building sabotaged, 500 gold per agent killed, and 1,000 gold per family member killed. However, the higher you raise your bounties the more likely you will get a quick response. The choice is yours.

Preferably, when you post a bounty, please include a name, target's faction association, last known location (along with the turn # he was spotted there), and perhaps a screenshot of him/her.

The Poet may also contact you and ask you for information. If you help him, you are automatically inducted into the Stygian as an “Outer Circle” member. Outer Circle members are periodically contacted for paying jobs. The more you assist, the closer you get to the “Inner Circle.” Inner Circle members gain access to The Poet account, receive regular commissioned jobs, and gain the additional benefits of being a Stygian.

We hope to do business with you soon…

    For now yours,

    The Poet

The mighty doors of the Council Chambers slowly open to admit new a new delegation. Sliding in through a small gap before the door can be opened is a small man. He has dark eyes and a shock of black hair ruffled onto his head. The lack of hair on his face indicated that he wasn't out of his teenage years yet but he carried himself with the dignity of someone far older and wiser.

Wondering over towards a seat pointed out to him by a guard he finds an old man sleeping in the chair. It must be the deaf mute that said nothing in the Chambers over the past few years. With a look of pity mixed with anger the man kicked him in the shins and glared at him as he awoke. With a pitiful squeak he squandered out of chambers forever. Looking at the shocked delegations from other nations the man turns and starts to speak.

Hello mighty ambassadors of all nations that majestically adorn these chambers. My name is Hasanak, leader of the Deputation sent from Ghazna. We (looking round to see he was the only diplomat sent by the Ghaznavids), I am here to declare that the Ghaznavid's wish only peace in their nation. No nation are our sworn enemies and we will fight for no other nation unless significant relations have been built. I wish you all good health and a desire to see the East purged of war.

Bowing his head, Hasanak swept his robe behind a shoulder and sat on his prescribed seat.
