Alex, that's hilarious! I'm glad that I'm still alive, though admeditaly at 87.
I hope I don't have too bad arthritis to play.

Eh, with modern medicine (and maybe some legalized marijuana) you'll be fairly spry at age 87.

Rome: Total War Mod Finally Completed
Realism team worked for 70 years

Europa Barbarorum, the highly anticipated modification for turn-of-the-century strategy game Rome: Total War, was finally released today. Thousands of downloads have been made as aging fans rushed to acquire the long-sought mod.

Started before the release of Rome: Total War, in 2004, the Europa Barbarorum team was founded to correct the historical inaccuracies rampant in the original game. The seventy years of development were spent digilantly researching and generating game content and code. But the road to success wasn't easy.

"It got a lot harder when Khelven passed away," said team historian Steppe Merc, one of the surviving original members. "We were directionless, and lost several people. Fortunately, Khelven II, Khelven's son, stepped in when he did. That was in the spring of 2047. We released the Open Beta just weeks after that. And now we're here."

The Open Beta release was overshadowed by rioting on the Lunar Colonies and tensions in the Middle East, where Iraq and Syria were in the middle of a border dispute.

More recent efforts to hype up the final release were moderately successful, which equates to a literal miracle. "We are very grateful to the fans who stuck with us," EB member Divinus Arma was quoted saying in an interview. "Ultimately, they made it all possible."

The team has announced plans to port the game to Barbarian Invasion, the acclaimed expansion for Rome: Total War. Khelven II, now leader of the Europa Barbarorum team, had this to say: "There's no telling what we'll do after [releasing the Barbarian Invasion port]. Maybe another realism mod, this time for Mars: Total War. Or a virtual reality simulation of life in the Roman World."

Whatever happens next, the future is bright for those who mod for the past.

I thought that, too, but it seems some of our members have been busy with real-life barbarism instead of just the simulation, so the mod will be further delayed:

Ah! the Generals! they are numerous, but not good for much (especially if they're Languorous)!

Yeah, I thought that for a moment, too. I started jumping up and down and everything. Then I scrolled down a little further and saw that it was just a joke.

Epirus lost most of its importance after Pyrrhus's death in 272 BC (and the fact that EB starts at this date has already been mentioned). The only major event after that coincides with the EB timeline was Alexander II of Epirus (Pyrrhus's son) invasion of Macedonia, which he lost later on along with his own throne. He was restored later and just ruled his kingdom until his death in 260. The Epirote monarchy was deposed in the 230's.

The Illyrians like mentioned before were never really unified. One of the largest and most important tribes, the Taulanti (Southern Illyria between Epidamus and the Vjosa River), were already incorporated into Epirus due to Pyrrhus's expansions before the start of this mod.

    Europa Barbarorum Team Sued
    Suicide victim's daughter wants "justice"

    By Alexander the Pretty Good

Within weeks of the release of Europa Barbarorum, a modification to the 2004 Rome: Total War strategy game, the team was dealt a major setback. The modders, both young and old, find themselves in court this week, following a lawsuit relating to the suicide of a fan in 2021.

Judy Thornton, 45, of Plainsboro, Tennessee, is the daughter of deceased electrical engineer and EB fan Timothy J. Thornton. Ms. Thornton blames the modding team for her father's death, saying, "the EB team is a group of sadistic tormentors. They gave my father a false hope in an improved Rome: Total War and took so long... it just killed my dad. Literally."

Seriously allergic to chocolate, Thorton, who was 37 at the time, killed himself by consuming a Double Dutch Chocolate Cake on July 16, 2021. Police found him slumped in front of his computer browsing a popular Total War gaming forum.

Teleklos Archelaou, one of the surviving original members of the Europa Barbarorum team, announced in a hastily organized press conference that "we never intended to cause the suicide of Mr. Thornton. All we wanted to do was mod. It's not our fault if someone gets a little to caught up in what we do."

Part of the EB "hype machine," as Ms. Thornton called it, Teleklos was heard muttering about 20 watt lightbulbs as he left the press conference. He directed all questions to EB team leader Khelven II.

In response to this Teleklos' remarks, Ms. Thornton arranged for her own press conference, saying she will "seek full justice for what the Europa Barbarorum did to my father." Later, she added, "Though Rome: Total War was a bit unrealistic, the EB team took their quest too far. Ultimately, they killed my father." No EB member was available for comment on this.

Yup. There are 19 factions total, plus the rebels, so make of that what you will. The problems with Roman hardcoding turned out to be surmountable.

Or then again, maybe I'm lying, and you should listen to Divinus.

Haha, the day I get arrested for an EB related offense will be freaking amazing, I have enough problems with the cops as it is. I thought this particular kind of anti-social behavior was legal.
