Default DISCUSSION MP Camps .vs regular MP

Swoosh made or made not have covered this already, pardon me if she did.

Do you and/or your clan be more interested in MP Campaigns with others, regular MP or both. Curious to see the replies.

If they have a preference, and if so, what one sounds more appealing.

What I don't understand are the choices - what preferences? Are you asking if players/clans have a preference of playing single match games vs a MP campaign vs both?

I prefer the regular battles, due to the fact that if I'm low on time, I don't need to waste time waiting for my MP campaign buddy/buddies to come on to play, I can just shoot on and play some regular games then.

Well, in that regards, I found this answer from a MP question in the IGN Reader Q&A interesting:

Cant imagine what it would mean.... What i know is in my own experience the most epic battles were not epic cuz the armies were large but because something was at stake. Like à cbw match. THE campaignbattles. Training with friends, giving lessons, À competitive game or an undefeated record with subudailives ... Such things make à battle epic. Not THE graphical eye candy and 50k troops....

The choice of the word "purpose" is what struck me. It does't sound like a ladder or something like that. Some kind of MMO campaign perhaps?

what i can imagine on this that an internal server records all our battleoutcomes based on japanese family and a webbased map shows who is in control of what province.... thus allowing clans to focus on a weak family and turn the tide..... btw now i read this i think its a cool idea and i make a thread of it :o)

Is this 55k men on the field thing going to come to any real fruition? or should I be more worried about my screen exploding?

56k men, 8 factions, 7000 men per faction, 20 units per faction, 350 men units. Whooahh!
And people use 40 men per unit online 'cause that's the only thing that works :) (that was how it was in other games, the SP has 200 men units, but MP plays with 80.)

Not unless it's high-speed RAM. Then it's not quantity that counts, but quality.

I'll play both MP campaign and MP battles of course...

Kids cry for bigger unit sizes and I cry for gameplay/balance...

It's like we really want it to come to the point where there is nothing but one big giant blob of units on the field... mad fun right?

i would like it that MP gameplay is based on 100 men infantry units.... this makes good out of head calculations about how much a unit is decimated.... and 100 men is not too big for us

What's an MP Campaign? Isn't the only MP thing about campaigns the drop-in parts? And as for hotseats or whatever they're called, it's where multiple people play the same faction, taking turns right? Someone help me out!

Back in RTW Myrddraal developed a script that allowed any number of players to play a PBEM campaign (Play By E-mail Multiplayer) where you would basically run the script, play your turn, end turn, and email the save file to the next player who would resume the game and play their (separate) faction. The only draw back was that if you were not the 'active' player (the one who had taken their turn most recently) then if you got attacked by the AI then the game would treat that fight as if it was AI vs AI.

In Empire Total War they released a Multiplayer Campaign Beta which allowed two players to go head-to-head in a grand campaign. There were several options such as all battles being automatically resolved or setting it up so that your opponent (when he wasn't playing his turn) would control all the AI armies in the battles you fought.

I believe that in Napoleon Total War they put more work into it. I have no clue whether it is finished yet (because I do not own Napoleon yet) but correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard its improved from Empire's Beta

Is that what you wanted to know?

More or less, thank you. I know about PBEM's and it's interesting how people were able to play various factions.

So a 'hotseat' then would be a live, real-time 1-on-1 grand campaign, each person playing their own choice of faction? I never understood the term. As for the Empire and NTW multi-campaigns, those would, again, have to be real-time and couldn't be played by correspondence, right?

I don't really either but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with multiple players taking turns on one computer (because technically the PBEM could have been played on one computer as well as correspondence. So I think hotseat is specifically not realtime... but again, I don't know for sure :P

Yes, from my understanding there may be some kind of lobby to meet other players but it isn't a frequented spot and the campaign would be real-time, yes :)

Again, most of this (aside from the PBEM is second-hand from posts here, I'm doing my best to try and find a cheep copy of Empire but the only ones I can find are used which means no Steam online play...)

Napoleon has a full mp campaign and its really well put together but limits it to 1v1 so only 2 player factions. Its done in real time and you can set limits on the turn speed.
