    Default An Ode To Louis

As I sit here on this bench
Oh I wish I wish I was French

    He has a certain flair
    He posts without a care

He could be the smartest man in the room
But then again he could be holding the broom

Such an asset to the forum
Lest we fall into the doldrum

    Sitting there in gay Pariee
    Probably reading, under a tree

So mon cher live your life
then settle down and take a wife (an a mistress)

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

An ODE? Of fewer lines than a sonnet? With mixed meter and limping scansion? For shame.....

    Anyway, here's a sonnet.

    The Jester and Le Cowboy

His words, sharper still than any epee
Witty, yet also gentle and gentile
Laugh author, yet only slightly outre
His jests piquant, but at his core tranquil

Our cher Louis, in two tongues may play
    Champion of "King's" and L'Academie
Our cher Louis, "all in jest" some may say
But wit's the tool of Le Bard de Paris

Yet stranger still the connection -- la chaine
Entre Louis and Strike -- two now one pair?
Knitting the Rio Brazos with La Seine
Entre Texas and France -- that's just not fair!

Never and always, jamais et toujours
We're stuck with them both, so en garde et encore!
"The only way that has ever been discovered to have a lot of people cooperate together voluntarily is through the free market. And that's why it's so essential to preserving individual freedom.” -- Milton Friedman

In our midst, we had a poet.

All this time, we did not know it.

He didn't make any spelling errors either. Must be that college learning is starting to sink in.

There once was an Orgah named Louis,
Exuding panache for all to see,
    Although he came from France,
    He got into Strike's pants,
And the man from Texas says, Oui Oui!

The Texan sat in silent bliss,
    Dreaming of a Frankish kiss.
His heart beat large with every word,
Until up from the ground came a bubbling crude...

    Oil that is,
    Black gold. Texas tea.

    Then the next thing you know old Strikes a millionaire;
He said to Louis, "Move away from there.
Tay-Has is the place you wanna be."

So they both packed up and moved to a flat in Austin over a record store, regularly asking each other: "Why can't I quit you?"

And they all lived happily ever after, the end.

    Or is it?

I'm feeling a strange longing to watch Brokeback Mountain.

There once was a man named Louis
Who [something that rhymes with St. Louis]
And as he [censored] his [blank]
    and [blank]ed with his [blank]
[something quite vulgar] hardly knew us.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
It's really, really hard to write a limerick for Louis, okay? I never thought I'd say this, but.... let's hear it for censorship!

How does one translate "klubb för inbördes beundran" to english anyway?
Few are born with it, even fewer know what to do with it.
