Thread: Historical characters

    Default Historical characters

In the campaign do you get any histrocail characters and if so how? Are you just randomly assigned them or is it triggered by certain things. I have conquered India way before what happened in real life, does this mean I cannot get Wellesley?

    Thanks

My observation so far has been that you start with historic figures as your generals and government ministers, but any new ones will be picked from a pool of generic names.

It seems the pool is shared for all kind of characters, so 'Radulf Kellerman' (austrian faction) can turn out to be a general, rake, bishop or your justice minister.

It's a bit of an immersion breaker for me, as in the beginning you have generals (using Austria as example) like:

    • Prinz Eugen von Savoyen (famous hero of the Turkish war)
    • Guido von Starhemberg (cousin of the well-known Ernst v. Starhemberg who lead the defence of Vienna)
    • Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden-Baden (yet another leader vs. the turks, called Türkenlouis, never lost a battle)

and later end up with guys having "Max Müller/John Doe" type names.
The ability to rename generals would be nice indeed.

In my last campaign that crashed, John Churchill died on route to India 4 years into the game, never to give a command in battle, never to become Duke of Marlborough, and consequently, to quote his wife, never - unfortunately for both of them - "returned from the wars today and did pleasure me in his top-boots."
"St Juniper once said, 'By his loins shall ye know him and by the length of his rod shall he be measured.' The length of my rod is a mystery to all but the Queen, and a thousand Turkish whores, but the
fruits of my loins are here for all to see. I have two sons, Henry and.... another one.
Step forward, Harry, Prince of Wales."

One of my Rakes in the RTI is named Richard Steele, who happens to be the author of a quote featured on loading screens.

I had him too, although I didn't realize he was a famous person. I did, however, think to myself "hey, pornstar name !"

Paul Revere is an american gentleman in the RtI campaign. Having spent a few days in Boston, I was quite pleased to find him there.

When you are disbanding units you sometimes get the message “are you sure you want to disband the unit and what it may be carrying?”

I am assuming that these have historical commanders who if promoted would be a Historic Figure.

Trouble is that you have to be disbanding units or ships to find them.

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

If you send the unit out so it is by itself you can see who the brigadier you would promote is. The problem for me is that I never recognise the person

The game always gives me this message if I am disbanding a one unit stack or an entire stack. I think it's just an automatic caution window.

No, It doesn’t seem to be.

I have done units one at a time and some will give it and some won’t. It is not even a last unit in a stack sort of thing.

Also, the name of a brigadier is not always the same as who is promoted out of it. It may have been in RTI, but I got a different general than the brigadier…I think it was the same in the GC also, but I am not 100% sure of it.

Cheers everyone for explaining this. I was wondering why that warning message appeared only sometimes.

Weird. I've sometimes gotten mysterious character trait announcements that seem to be for captains. They aren't for my ministers, generals, or agents. Maybe that's what the game is warning us about.

The only historical character I myself noticed appearing during my campaigns was Voltaire, I got him playing the French. And I only noticed him because the message of his appearance was thrown into my face right after a loading screen with a quote of his.

Maybe that's a hint I should start paying attention to peoples' names..?

    Same here.

    - So and so has gained the trait : well connected mistress
    - Wee, whozzit ? That's a cool ancilliary. Hmmm, doesn't seem to be one of the ministers... nope, not in the replacement pool either...not the king, nor a general... DAMMIT, WHO GOT THE BROAD ?!

Wasn't that due to the exclusion of family trees for monarchies that weren't fully removed?

I've had a Karl Marx as a minister candidate at the start of my Saxon campaign and quickly promoted him to the financial minister. He had a lot of stars and was raking in the dough.

We can wish. On this topic, I wish family trees were re-activated and we could name the royals upon birth, as well as promote them to generals, ministers, admirals, gentlemen, etc.

    (no sarcasm intended)

I watched an interesting documentary on Blenheim today and it just reminded me why I love TW games. In my campaign John Churchill isn't a hero of the War of Spanish Succession, rather he is going down in history as the man who kicked the French out of North America and pacified the natives. I just hope he lives long enough to complete the job...

I have seen Daniel Defoe as a gentlemen in two GB games so far. He has been quite the dueler in my current campaign, wounding two French gentlemen and killing one. The three said Frenchmen were trying to steal my technologies from my university in Sault St. Marie.

PS: Which used to be French, until the Quebecois decided that being British was much better for their long-term well being.
Ancestry: Turkish & Irish. Guess my favorite factions!

Prussia also start the game with Leibnitz. Dunno how the real one would have felt about being asked to get cracking on those new bayonets :)
