I cannot get it to run, it does check the CD but then nothing. Is the best solution to just keep a Win98SE bootable partition around?

What is it about XP that keep's this game from running?

I use Win98 for the very reason that most of my games are older, my plat won't handle the new ones, and 98 was the native OS for most of the games I have on this box. Therefore, I have zero problems running them. XP seems to introduce a set of backward-compatibility problems with older games.

As to the cause of XP's problems, I'm not qualified to comment as I don't use it. There are others here who do, and who are, however. I'm sure someone will be along shortly.

If you can create a partition for 98 and run your older games from it, I would think that would be the best solution for playing your old favorites while still being able to play the new ones too. That's what I would likely do if I were in your position.

I use Xp and WE no problems at all....

Any error messages reported?
And do u run any software fire walls, or anti virus programs.

Also any problems runing other games?

No error message at all, did a fresh install and same thing happens. Also I close down all programs before I run a game, both manually (NOD32 & Spy Sweeper) then with XP-Smoker (shuts down 39 unrequired XP services).

No issues with other games that I run, I'm using the latest drivers for my hardware.

It just won't run, it's the EA released version of STW:WE

So right now I'm running the game on a PIII-850 with 512Mb RAM, Radeon 9200, SBLive, Win98SE.

Hi Akula,

you can try to change the compatibility mode.
Go to the Desktop-shortcut you use to start the game, right click, select properties, on the register-card "Compatibility" select Win98/WinME.
Repeat the same with the properties of the Shogun.exe file in the main Shoggy folder.
Try again

Did that, made no difference.

Even disabled HyperThreading in the BIOS, again nothing. I think I'll try my original STW CD set and see if that one works.

On a fantastic note, I just connected to the Online server with my 98SE computer, running STW:WE with v1.03 stats.

This is huge, I always had a terrible time playing online, with my firewall and XP.

I'm a happy guy now.

The 1.02 beta patch is the last official patch made for WE/MI. Shambles has it on his site for US/Euro players. If you download and install it, you will have the 1.02 stats. You can verify by looking in the upperleft corner of the red background on the Main Menu screen, after you've started the game. If it says 1.02, then you're ready to rock. If it says 1.00, you need to download and install the patch.

The suggestion for limiting Yari Ashigaru is being discussing in the tournament thread.

I'm up todate on the STW:WE edition and have been using StatSwapper since it came out. I just thought everyone liked v1.03 better than v1.02?

Which online Map Pack is everyone using?

After looking at the downloads Shambles has made available on his site, it appears the mappacks have been combined into one big one. His site link is in the "Shugun Diehards" thread. You can get them from there, or here in the downloads section. Not a lot are using mappack maps now, but it's good to have them so you can play on them with those that do.

Last year the mini-community went through a period where 1.03 got some attention. Kas held a 2v2 tourney using it that attracted 16 teams, many from old, established clans. Before that, and shortly after that, the most popular patch used online was 1.02, despite the need for a 4 max of a unit type and no ashi rules, nedded to address serious balancing issues inherent in the 1.02 beta patch stats. Som prefer 1.03 or other custom patches over 1.02 because of the imbalance, but the majority of people who have been playing online in the last year and a half use 1.02.
