    Daily Show: Hitler References

I made a post about this stuff a long time ago. Its really sort of wierd how this has taken off in America recently - not just by the Bush bashers, but by conservatives aswell.

I found the byte to be funny but it made the point I was trying to make. Bush isnt Hitler - Howard Dean isnt Hitler - Hitler was Hitler!

I'm of the opinion that there is no Hitler joke that isn't funny, but I agree with Jon on this one. When everyone is calling one another Hitler, things begin to lose perspective. Find new pejoratives!

Going by some hyperbole out there VW Bugs are a Nazi symbol.
Our genes maybe in the basement but it does not stop us chosing our point of view from the top.

i agree - it is overused by everyone

but they use it to illustrate the slippery slope theory
to show that if you create a law with such a massive loophole and further degenerative qualities - it isnt long before someone comes along to go totally agaisnt the spirit of the law

to compare someone to hitler is pretty stupid unless they are going for the new record as to how many people they had killed

but to use various examples from the third reich isnt
we use our founding fathers to show positives - we use the idea of jesus to exemplify selfless acts like saying something nice to someone

so what cant we draw paralells between percieved bad things?
as long as we do not equate - but rather compare in order to better illustrate our concerns

i am one who doesnt care about hitler references - and like to use the name of hitler to accuse anyone of even the smallest things

my manager wont let me leave the store - i tell her that im pretty sure that she is worse than hitler - and so on

just dont take it for more than it is - it is the people who really believe that someone is some sort of demon/hitler that we come across a problem - unless that person is actually trying to do what hitler did

It's a cheap tactic, that's all. Anyone can go up to anyone that has commited any light infringement and say they are hitler or a nazi. I think it's kind of childish, like in the school yard, when you call people names. Doesn't advance any issue, just lowers everyone's IQ.

Actually, up here we've taken to saying things like "What are you? George Bush?" when someone is doing something violent or suppressive of human rights.

There was a time when every TV show made jokes about Bush (some were stupid, but some were quiet good). However - never heard s.o. comparing him with Hitler.
Comparisons with Hitler only happen if someone is very upset. Afterwards everybody is very upset about the speaker

It is overused. Just the other month someone called me Hitler. Not passing up the comic value of the moment, I snapped into a full salute. Good times...

Anyway, it is losing it's value. Time for some new ones. *points* TROTSKY! *points* STALIN! *points* POL POT! *points* MAO *points* LENIN! *points* KRUSCHEV! *points* ZHUKOV! (etc)
