Thread: RTW Modelling Video Tutorials 1, 2, and 3 Released

  1. #1

Default RTW Modelling Video Tutorials 1, 2, and 3 Released

My first 3, in a series of at least 6, RTW Moding video tutorials, have been released.
The first tutorial deals with importing and basic model preparation.
The second deals with modelling the actual character.
The third deals with modelling all his equipment.
All tutorial videos are 1024x768 Quicktime Movies (mp4).

    Instructions:
-Download the following files to a single location (/My Documents/RTW Modding Tutorials):
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6OXVYWXD (190 MB)
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VA5SH6VQ (190 MB)
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0RGYBOBH (40 MB)

-Make sure you have WinRAR installed.

-Double-click on one archive, and click Extract. Three folders should appear.

-The .mov Videos and .max Scene Files are located in their corresponding folders.

If you have any difficulties, please contact me by posting here, email, or MSN. I'd also like to know what you think of them.
Dial-up users fear not, if you live inside of the US, I'll be mailing free DVD's of my video tutorials once the series is completed.

Ah, so you finally got everything sorted, I'd been looking at the thread at SCC for a while but you got delayed or something. Just downloading them now, then I'll post my thoughts. Thanks a lot for this prof

Thanks. And I'm curious to see what you all thought of them, especially the new guys who spam forums daily for modelling help.

DLs seem to be lacking... do you think I should break them up into smaller archives?

Well maybe its something to do with the file size combined with the fact that megaupload is quite slow.

I wish I had a host for the files, I'd get it myself, but with 50 or so DLs it'd eat up my entire month's bandwidth. It'd be cheaper just to send out CD's domestically.

Thank you General Sun. I downloaded them all and I've watched up to part two of section 2 and its really good so far. There was just one thing that you forgot (or just didn't) mention that I think would be quite helpful. Making mistakes is inevitable and I see you used ctrl+alt+z a lot but many people new to modelling won't know this, just a thought. As I say it's really good, if you're learning to model for RTW this is probably the best resource you're going to find.

    Regards,

    Sundjata

Great videos, I've watched all three and they really helps a lot for a 3DS Max newbie. But the tricky part of creating new units for me is skinning. Are you going to do more vids for skinning or animation? To complete the set?

    Thanks again.

The next tutorials will be as follows:
    4- UV Mapping
    5- Basic Layout/Texturing
    6- Rigging
    7- Lighting/Rendering/Exporting

I'm going to try to get them done ASAP, though that may not be until some time.

4 doesnt work but thank you so much nevertheless! Between these tutorials and hoggy's thread I've been managing to do quite well with modelling. What I need to know however is how to do rigging properly and UV mapping to make textures. If anyone could post me at a relevant thread I'd be very grateful.

so there are no links to part 4.5 sorry to be a pain but ive got a bunch of models that keep failing to import because of to many verticles (verticle count to high) even though ive got less than the original, though im sure there are other issuses i need to resolve,(bone wieghting ect..)and can work out if i had the tutorials,

doh found five but four is a dead link, anyone know where theres a working link or can someone re-post it or set up hosting with archer at the twc.net he has offered,

I don't think a working version of 4 have been up. There was a version of 4 up, but it was taken down again, due to an encoding problem, so I'm afraid it isn't available.
Though I have a very big version of 4 on 194 mb. But it will take a loong time for me to upload it

Unless I´ve made some great mistake, the nine .rar archives contain identical files, each and every .rar file contains three folders (preparing the model, modelling the soldier and modelling equipment) with one .mov and one 3ds Scene file respectively.

That's how it works. They are all connected somehow, I don't know, but you need all 9 in order to get it to extract properly.

When I extract each of the movie files they play allright, but they´re identical. So what do I have to do different?

Hmm...I've no idea...sorry..I just hit extract here on one of the files and then I get three folders with videos in them.

So did I... nine times. Well, they´re working, so I´m not complaining, but I´m still confused. Maybe the Prof can clear it up?

    Good you got them working;)
I think it was to minimalize the download sizes and to divide them into smaller DL's for low-speed users.
