Sometimes I find kings with non-royal names to appear in the game. It seems they're coming out of nowhere, since I don't see princes with such names. Anybody knows whyHere are some screenshots:

The prince always takes a new name when they become king in the game. What name they get seems to be pretty random sometimes.
With my experience playing as Almohads, it just becomes their last name. Maybe it's the same here.
That's why my king is king Michael

For Poland, I am sure. No matter the prince, they always take a different name when they get to the throne. It could be the family name as Wonderland suggested.
Of course this could all be different for every faction.

.
KT,
That happens when a rebel general wins a civil war and ascends the throne. No matter, his sons born afterwards will receive "regular" royal names.

Ja mata Tosa Inu-sama, Hore Tore, Adrian II, Sigurd, Fragony
Mouzafphaerre is known elsewhere as Urwendil/Urwendur/Kibilturg...

What's next King Kneepnob the Ankle Biter. Or Emperor Alsquian the Flatulent?
We've already seen an emperor named Adolf but do the Russians have Stalin?

It shouldn't be random. Last time I was fiddling with the files, you have to imput a number in the names files saying how many names to use of the main list of generals names. ie put 4 in the field, and the first four names would be royal names for the entire game. As far as I recall anyway, I'll check again at home. What name they get seems to be pretty random sometimes.
Kind Aed of the Sicilians doesn't seem right either, that was a name for an Irish general in VI....
In the vanilla version of the game (VI 2.01), the Sicilians have the wrong set of names, because of a mistake in the DEFAULT_HEROES file. The set of names they have assigned to them is the one intended for Scottish (or Irish?) rebels, hence the names Aed, Adam, Algune etc. This can be easily fixed in the file, and the real Sicilian king names should be Roger, William, Robert, Charles, Tancred, Henry, Stephen and Geoffrey.Originally Posted by lugh

Ah, I see. I haven't played vanilla in a while and never noticed it when I did.
