    Default A Good Reminder

Of why Islamists need to be defeated. If Denmark gives in to this pressure the free world will have lost another battle.

On one hand, you don't seem to see much disparaging of Jesus from the Muslim world. On the other, you don't seem to see many Westerners rioting over murdered artists or kidnapping/beheadings.

In Denmark, 10 years ago, there was a movie about Jesus sexual life. There was a public outrage, it is the same thing happening in the middle east. It is a shame it is costing danish jobs.

This is officially an issue between freedom of speech and religious tolerance.

This is ridiculous. Ambassadors are being withdrawn over a cartoon in a newspaper? I think some of our Muslim friends need to lighten up. It's not because they are banned from depicting Muhammad that this rule should apply to everyone on this globe, is it?

At any rate it's completely nonsensical to expect an apology from the Danish government. It's very telling that the Danes had to explain to the Arabs how in this part of the world, newspapers can print what they want.

Mind you, I'd be just as annoyed with fundamental christians protesting depictions of Jesus that they think are offensive. If you don't like it, just ignore it already.

Or better yet - forgive the perpetrators.

It is not so much that Mohammad was depicted. It was more the way he was it, eg. with a turban and an ignited bomb sticking out of his turban. That is clearly a referance to all moslems is a terrorists, that is what makes them furious - and with good reason.

These pictures were printed 4 months ago, so the uproar is a little late - that is probably because some forces are trying to use the cartoons as a cover for mass moslem protests and egocentric agendas.

Wow. Talk about losing your focus and getting worked up about the trivial. Saudi recalled an ambassador over a cartoon? Well, huh. If the wahhabis wanted to demonstrate that peacful coesxistence with them is impossible, as our President would say, Mission Accomplished.

The reason for the drawings i understand was in response to a book published about the life of the prophet that doesn't depict pictures, so jyllands-posten published these pictures to re-affirm that denmark still has freedom of speech, unfortunately the way they were drawn pissed of the danish muslims, so they sent a delegate to saudia arabia (thats why the outrage came late) and it all went out of hand.

Ah well, the damage was done. The newspaper apologised so lets see what happens next.

And the mostest furioustest of all are the Saudis, those shining examples of freedom and enlightened government. I can understand that your everyday muslim may be somewhat offended (though they really shouldn't make that much of it) but Saudi-Arabia might want to polish its own image a bit before piping up about cartoons in Scandinavian countries.
And then of course there's the nuttiest of them all, the people who feel that innocents should pay for this with their blood. Lots of it, I presume.

    I also just noticed this:
Meanwhile pan-Arab organisations have begun efforts to reach a UN resolution, backed by possible sanctions, to protect religions from insults.
I'm very suspicious of any protection from 'insults'. What exactly constitutes an insult anyway? And moreover, why shouldn't cartoons insult? Isn't that what cartoons do?

Interesting to see what that results in. Maybe blown out of proportion by media. In any case it's obvious that what a newspaper does isn't something the nation that the newspaper is located in should apologize for. I don't understand this hostile attitude towards Denmark. Afaik the only thing the nation itself has supported in terms of actions that could be disputable, was sending a submarine to the Iraq war. A submarine... I wonder if that at all can be counted as taking part in the war...

Or has there been any other incidents that I'm unaware of?

well this one got alot of media air for some reason...

Oh here is a gem from Bill Clinton:

Former president Bill Clinton warned of rising anti-Islamic prejudice, comparing it to historic anti-Semitism as he condemned the publishing of the cartoons.

"So now what are we going to do? ... Replace the anti-Semitic prejudice with anti-Islamic prejudice?" he said at an economic conference in the Qatari capital of Doha.

"In Europe, most of the struggles we've had in the past 50 years have been to fight prejudices against Jews, to fight against anti-Semitism," he said.

Clinton described the cartoons as "appalling".

"None of us are totally free of stereotypes about people of different races, different ethnic groups, and different religions ... there was this appalling example in northern Europe, in Denmark ... these totally outrageous cartoons against Islam," he said.

Clinton criticized the tendency to generalize negative news of Islam.

"Because people see headlines that they don't like [they will] apply that to a whole religion, a whole faith, a whole region and a whole people?" he asked.
I kinda agree with him... but still doesn't stop the entire incident from becoming the most overhyped since Salman Rushdies "Satanic Verses" debacle.

    Norwegian flags are burning too.

Since their demands never will be met, I`m wondering what the solution to this will be.. Luckily, we are not experiencing the consequences of the boycott since we do not sell "anything" in the area.

    Dear Fizzil,

I hope you didn´t point Clinton´s speech at me, I still love you and have no problem with muslims in general, it´s just obvious that their reaction to making fun of their religion is much worse than mine(I saw the "Life of Brian" twice and didn´t feel the need to burn german flags...).

    Regards, Husar <3

Why don´t we (muslims, jews and christians) join forces and hate the catholic church together, because they´re the ones to paint pictures of allah onto the walls and windows?

Well, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades have came to the conclution that the threats against Sweden was based on a misunderstanding.

The threats against Denmark seems to stay on though.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

Okay, just want to make sure that I'm on the right page here...

If Christians take offense to a crucifix being inserted into a jar of urine or fecal matter being smeared over a madonna, they're being small minded and bigoted and need to grow up.

If Muslims take offense to an admittedly tasteless cartoon of Mohammed, they're well within their rights to beat up two empolyees of a Danish company in Saudi Arabia or riot in Gaza?

Hmm, looks like I'm in the wrong religion. How do I get mine onto this 'right to be offended' list?

You are on the wrong page. Clearly you have no clue what the debate is over, if you think it is religion you need to read this thread again.

ok, hate is probably too strong, more like feel sorry for them actually. But I do hate religious fanaticism, which is in the context of this thread - that's probably why I said hated.

Anyway, Jyllands-Posten two printing offices in Århus and København just received bomb warnings and was emptied, no bombs was found by security is upped.

Here is the images, I will post it in a link, which you will have to click as to not offend anyone, who does not want to see the images. The reason why I post them is to make clear, that what moslems are angry about is not so much the depictions of the prophet, but rather the resemblance that all moslems are terrorists - and that the prophet also was. That I disagree with.

This is one of the few times I hope Denmark delegates went there just to show the middle finger to the King, telling him and his oh-so-glorious people to **** off from disturbing their freedom of speech.

I understand tastelessness can cause anger, but anger does not justify such an ugly response. The Muslim world -- and those who know me in this forum know I never really said this before -- should be ashamed that it let such hatred fly uncontrolled.

    Fanatics.

The delegation is not going to do much of a difference, the only thing they can do, is to explain the muslim world that freedom of speech cant be controlled by the government, and that the pictures of muhammed doesnt represent the public opinion.

What muslims thinks is, that since it was published in a danish paper, the government must have O.K.ed it, and the government represent the danish people - the delegation must explain that this is not the way things work.

They dont have the authority to apologize, nor should they - an apology is what the muslim world demands, so it is not going to solve anything.
