    Hello,

It's possible to make the quote tags behave like the spoiler tags.
So, you quote someones long post and the content is hidden by default. Pushing the button collapses it and you an read. Pro: readers don't have to scroll through huge topics to read posts. Cons: readers have to click in a post if/when they want to see quotes.

For those that don't know what spoiler tags are:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Hello

Instead of spoil it has the quote or originally posted by UserX stamped on top and it can be spiced up a bit.

It is not possible to have old style and new style quotes at the same time. It is however possible to create an extra tag that will hide. Same idea as spoiler, but without the warning. It won't be linked to the quote button of course.

    So, what do we want?

    It works like this.

As you an see, the [noparse][ex][/ex][noparse] tags are added anyway. They can come in handy. Do we want quotes to be like this too, so that the quote button doesn't generate huge topis?

Personally I like the old style, but it would be nice if people only quoted the pertinent bits of a long post.

In the past, we saw quoting quoted quotes. After scrolling for several seconds in those posts there was a response: lol.

This board is a bit 'smarter': it doesn't include old quotes when quoting.

Actually, I kinda liked the other way for the backroom. It's often more useful for me there to be able to quote quotes in order to put certain points in context.

Just me, though. It takes no real effort either way.

I want to try to be the conservative this time, let's stick with traditions that has been built up for generations by smart people before us, they couldnt have been wrong. Let's keep the old system

I like this system. But it would be useful if it said who is being quoted. Then you'd remember what their post was in the topic, but this way, you have to press "Show" just to see who is being quoted.

Not sure if I worded that very well, so say if you don't understand.

It does. Right next to the Show button it says whose quote it is or whether it's just a quote. It does that for the quote tag, this is a general use [ex][/ex] tag.
It just serves as illustration to show what it looks like. I better don't just change the quote tag for a minute.

Multiquote added. Push the new multiquote button for all posts you want to include (it works like a toggle) and then Post Reply.

    Enjoy.

Hmm... I tried the multi-quote in a post. Weirdly, it remembered a toggle from anther page at another board (this very page here at the watchtower). Is that intended? It may prove troublesome.

Selecting multiquotes and then just hitting the normal quote button, unloads the multiquote.
