    Default Going to Vietnam

    It's vacation time again

Next week on Friday Mrs Clegane and myself are traveling to Vietnam (with a 2-day stopover at Bangkok and a couple of additional days to visit Angkor in Cambodia)

The places we are going to visit in Vietnam are:
    - Hanoi
    - Hue
    - Saigon
    - Phan Thiet (for a couple of days on the beach to relax at the end)

Our intinerary includes a 2-day trip to Halong Bay and a 3-day trip to Ba Be National Park from Hanoi (unfortunately we do not have the time to visit Sa Pa) and a day-trip to the Mekong-Delta from Saigon.

Any tips/recommendations - practical or regarding "must-dos/sees" (that perhaps aren't found in the typical travel guides) are highly welcome

You must share a bunch of jungle photos of those South Asian countries.

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

A: Check out the tunnels of Cu Chi.

B: Eat food hot enough to blow your head off.

C: Check out the womenfolk and send me two.

    Thanks.

SerClegane can do that ? I bet he can do a second favor. Or pick one of the women for me, send the other one to Beirut.

Good choice. I have three tips.

    Hue.
Visit the tombs on your own on a rented (or hotel) bike. Combine this with a trip on the river on a fast boat if you can, and buy your food from stalls as you go.

    Halong
You can do this the easy way, butthe hard way paysoff. Hire a sailing jonque if you can find one. It took me a day, but it was worth the trouble. Hire a woman to do your cooking on board, tell the captain you want to dive for crabs (five to ten feet depth) and make sure he brings some beer for you and the crew. Relax. The scenery is in-cre-di-ble.

    Anywhere
If you meet people with kids, pick up the kids, hold them well in the air and make them smile. It brings them good luck. The gesture is really appreciated.

Have fun, Ser Clegane, and be sure to convey my respect to that beautiful country.

Edit: It takes 3 Edits for LEN the Gold-Fish of Codes to put a mighty Indian smiley into his post. Agh !

Heh, it wouldn't take AdrianII more 'n a second with his Maxthon browser. Great suggestion of yours, I run it all the time now. Thanks again!

Wandering Cloud is still looking for doner postcard but can't find shop, ugh. Tomorrow deadline -- if not found, then Wandering Cloud draw doner himself and make card for Big LEN even more ridiculous, ooph!

No problems, White Man Under Dirty Hat, have a smoke ! Ugh!

LEN the Stupid Prize Winning Hyena For Twice would appreciate any kind of postcard. If it creates any trouble, LEN advises to forget the prize. He will get along with one stupidity.

Thanks Adrian and Beirut for the tips and recommendations

I am really looking forward to see places like Halong and Hue

Hopefully I will make lots(!) of photos (and I will force all people I know to watch them )

Now we only need our visa... (our travel agency messed up our first request - so I hope we finally receive the correct version in the next days)
