Thread: Unit cohesion and path finding.

Default Unit cohesion and path finding.

This is from my post in a thread concerning unit cohesion at TWC. Is anyone else here experiencing similar problems with unit behavior and path finding.

Horse Unit path finding problems before sally out for battle.

Note infantry unit in gate way the break up of the unit was caused by horse unit moving through them they where actually in line before the gate

Examples of AI lack of response bug even though some people have claimed the AI has improved? This will be fixed in the first patch.

Small examples of unit cohesion beginning to fall apart, horse unit is pursuing routing unit in the middle note that this is at the end of the battle, if this happened (which I have seen) in the middle of a large battle it is very difficult to reorganize that unit. A certain realism about this behavior though unfortunately for game play a problem.

Here are another few examples there is something seriously wrong with unit path finding. I would like to point out that this is only the next turn after my other screens. Here I am attacking a rebel town.

Unit stuck on wall and divided in two it refused to move.

    Other unit stuck on wall

Unit two on wall finally begins to move only if you click away from gateway, watch what happens
    https://img104.imageshack.us/my.php?...omovinglx8.jpg

Intercepted by rebels on the wall but its cohesion is non existent
    https://img104.imageshack.us/my.php?...woagaindy2.jpg

It gets worse now the rebels have positioned themselves in the middle of my unit
    https://img104.imageshack.us/my.php?...emiddlemm3.jpg

and finally note rebel unit foreground they cannot move because some of there unit is still on the wall

Playing difficulty level on very hard I am finding this behavior a persistent occurrence in my game. I first noticed this in the modded demo, a tendency for units to break up and as a result to get into path finding difficulties very similar to some of the problems with RTW but worse.

    That's kind of worrying!

My game is on-route so I've already bought it. Has anyone else experienced this kind trouble? Do you think it's intentional design or a bug?

I'm afraid unit cohesion is pretty terrible, even for high-valour elite units.
How historically accurate is that though? I wouldn't think a unit of peasants would be very good at holding formation when charging but surely a group of English knights would?
Path-finding issues are still there but they're MUCH less problematic than in Rome in my opinion.

I have been having a lot of troubles trying to bring units through a gate while seiging a city. For example, I had my Cavalry enter the gate first to meet the defenders and tried to move my infantry in after to support them. For some reason my infantry not only did NOT go through the gate, but they (for some unknown reason) fell back to my original front lines! This caused my attacking force to become split and I lost many casualties in my cav unit that could have been avoided. It seems like any time I bring a unit to the gate when there is already a unit entering the city, the units become confused and fall back to the front lines instead of waiting to go through the gate like they should.
