Can the Romani get elephants?

I'd love to field these majestic creatures in my armies but I'm thus far unable to find them in the Carthaginian lands. How far into the interior must I go to recruit these, and can I breed them or are they mercenary? I'm presently bringing the Ptolemei under heel and have heard elephants might be available in the lands south of Egypt as well.

I'm at a loss -- help me out please. :)

Since i haven't played Romans yet i'm not sure if they can recruit elephants, but if they can, you can recruit them at any region which has the elephant resource (Numidia and the region directly north of it have elephants)

Yes. The Romani can recruit African Forest Elephants in 9 provinces. Three of those are in the southern Nile region, while the others are over near Carthage.

South is quite explicit. Lower Nile means north (lower elevation). South means South. It also means upper. He said it right.

How about some directions on how to recruit these elephants? I'm still unable to do it, despite building level IV "allied" and as high a MIC as is allowed for me to build there (a couple or two higher than standard, I think).

What am I doing wrong? What are the other requirements?

If I understand the exp_descr_buildings.txt file right, I do not believe they are available until after the Marian reforms. After this occurs, you must have at least a lvl3 govt building and a mic lvl3 in one of the provinces capable of building elephants.

If you’re so fond of elephants, why don’t you slightly adjust exp_descr_buildings.txt and exp_descr_units.txt? Afterwards, you’d be able to recruit armored Indian elephants in Epyrote homeland =)

...why? There were no elephants in Epirus, apart from the few sent by the Ptolemaics.
It would make more sense if elephants would be recruited in Africa or India. It is strange though that you can't get them as romans...

Pyrrhos was quite an extraordinary man. He was the one and only to try breeding elephants instead of catching them somewhere in the jungle. Unfortunately, after his accidental death on the streets of Argos his experiment wasn’t continued =(
I suppose this old story to be the reason of “elephants indikois” resource in the province of Epirus. Great idea, if you ask me =)

I had to do a report on elephants for an english class and the reason they are usually captured instead of bread is the musth, a time when male elephants get extremely horny and crazy. During this time they are dangerous and unpredictable and will kill people, etc. That is probably the reason why Eprius was the only one to try and breed them.

This old thread contains a fragment of information that I require.

I'm looking at export_decr_buildings.txt, I found where elephants are, and if I'm getting this correctly, it says:

- the unit African forest elephant can be trained in a Faction MIC
- the Romanii faction are the former Selcuids

Is that correct and how can I move them to Auxillia MIC (makes more sense that way)? Is it just copy-paste the line, or do I need to edit some other stuff as well?

Roman regional MIC is complex Barracks_Z in EDB.

In 0.81 they are available with a level regional roman MIC (city_barracks_Z1), as they should. No reform requirements.

Alternatively, could someone tell me what do I need to add in the descr_units.txt, please? I tried making another entry for the forest elephants, but it didn't work.
