With a terrain feature like that which favors all of the defenders, it requires a highly coordinated attack to succeed. Simple 1v1 frontal assaults won't work. So far, I haven't seen the kind of teamwork required to overcome an obstacle like that exhibited in our Samurai Wars battles, but I believe that theoretically the Samurai Wars gameplay does allow such an obstacle to be overcome in team games. One of the reasons for trying to recreate the gameplay of original STW is precisely that in a team game you could successfully attack defenders who had a height advantage.

The way you successfully attack a map like Realm 2 is to bring superior force to bear on one part of the defender's line so that part of the line routs. It's not easy to accomplish, and to some extent depends upon the defenders not fully reacting either because there are potential threats on other parts of the line or because they just don't react to the attacker's movements. You aren't going to win by charging uphill with a force equal to what the defender has up there. You can also shoot the defender, but you have to bring superior firepower to bear on that part of the line to gain an advantage. If the attacker can achieve that superior firepower, he can often get lots of back kills on the defender's melee units.

Well it is a doable map in a 1v1, 2v2 or a 4v4, provided that the attacker is aggressive enough to try and get a foothold on the other side of the ravine.

Anyway I won't be able to join you guys this weekend. Got some partying to do.

    Nice work.

    Looking forward to seeing more.
Happy new year to all Samurais.
Apologies for taking a christmas break. I gave my brother a kick and he'll finish the darn installer shortly (I hope) so that we can move on to beta_8.
Cross your fingers and it shouldn't be long now.
Thanks for all the games in 2006.
