Default A New Age For Men : An English Tale

This AAR will follow the conquests of the English Empire. I will be playing the campaign on M/H. This AAR will follow the action of the campaign through diary entries made by the Main characters. Every post will give numerous entries from 2 different characters whilst at the same time giving their own views on thoughts to what’s going on around them (campaign wise, and RPG wise).

    Please Enjoy...

    Main Characters

    King Of England

After years of struggling to keep control over the English crown, King William the Conqueror has finally quenched the rebel resistance. Nearing the end of his days, William’s attention shifts to consolidating the English realm. He is now more interested in the political and financial factors in governing an empire. He has left control of military to his two sons Prince William “Rufus” and Prince Robert with Robert commanding the forces in Normandy and William “Rufus” commanding the forces in England.

Duke of Normandy and General of the Southern Army

Being the Youngest son of King William, Prince Robert inherited the Dukedom of Normandy, whereas the crown will be passed down to his older brother William, much to Robert’s dismay. Even as children his rivalry with William was strong, battling for their fathers favour. Now young nobles, the rivalry still grows, with Robert eager to prove his prowess over William and gain the crown for him self.

    Spymaster

After his parents were slain by Saxon rebels Richard was left to die on the outskirts of London. Only an infant at the time, Richard stumbled around for hours calling for anyone to come and save him. Alas nobody heard Richard’s calls. He eventually found his way into London, tired, homeless and starved he had no choice but to take what he needed. For most of his childhood Richard was left on the street to fend for himself. He grew adept in his talents, eventually finding his way into the thieves’ guild. After years of crime Richard was approached by royalty, with a proposition. Eager for revenge on the Saxons he agreed, becoming a spy for the crown. For many years after this Richard spied on the Saxon rebels reporting his findings straight to King William himself, destroying any resistance to King Williams rule. However, now that the Saxons rebels have been vanquished his priority again shifts from revenge, to his endless lust for gold.

Princess, Lover and Sister to Prince Edward

Being an infant when her father invaded England, Princess Cecilia knows little of war and suffering. Her talents, unlike her two brothers are not of tactical warfare, but of diplomacy and commerce. Robert saw her as a disgrace. He bullied her as a child, repeatedly telling her that she was not fit for the blood in her heart. She spent many a night praying for the torture to stop. Eventually William found out what his brother was doing and protected Cecilia from Robert. From this day forth the two saw each other differently, not as siblings but as lovers. From this day forth their forbidden love blossomed, invisible to the eyes of those around them. After years of waiting the two are finally ready to confess their love to King William and hopefully be given the right to wed.

Heir to the English Throne, Lover to his Sister Cecilia

For many year Prince William (Rufus) has been at his fathers side learning the art of battle. Now Edward must take control of England’s military and expand the English Empire. Edward was never a good swordsman, with his brother Robert beating him in every battle. However his military mind was undefeatable, gaining his fathers praise over his battle ready brother. Although Edward is an honourable man his forbidden love for Cecilia could spell trouble for the English realm.

“With the Norman conquest and a crowned king came the dawning of a new era for England. Nobles ordered the construction of mighty castles to fortify the realm. To rule this land is a birth right but to control it, requires the courage and skill that few men possess.”

Nice! I'm looking forward to the next installment
    Brave Sir Robin ran away.
    Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
    And gallantly he chickened out.
    Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!

Looking good, although I should point out that you refer to Prince William "Rufus" as Prince Edward "Rufus" a few times. Also, a typo here generates some confusion:

Being the Youngest son of King William, Prince Robert inherited the Dukedom of Normandy, whereas the crown will be passed down to his younger (?) brother William.

My critical two cents. Otherwise, a good scene-setting installment

If you've been here since September I think your probably overdue member status. PM an admin or moderator about it, you were probably missed out in one of the mass-upgrades.

The Journal of Prince William - January 1080

A messenger came from London today. Tired and weary from the journey I invited him into my tent. The man seemed honoured, he bowed so low that even the ground seemed impressed. I can not really recall what happened next. Perhaps the ground was getting its revenge, I’m not too sure. But all I heard was a loud snap, the squidge of shoes slipping over the mud and a loud thud as the man skull cracked against the floor. A roar of laughter erupted from the soldiers, the noise seem to engulf the encampment. Sighing to myself, I thrust the man into the tent.

I threw the man onto the chair. He definitely didn’t look well, his eyes simply spinning around and his head limp and unresponsive. Ignoring him I unbuckled his bag taking out a scroll sealed by the mark of King William. After slitting the seal and began to examine the scroll. Apparently King William wishes me to mobilize my forces and march to the rebel village of York, on the Scottish border. I immediately rushed to the door. Pausing for a second I glanced back at the messenger. I couldn’t help my self, laughing gently I left the tent.

The Journal of Prince William - February 1080

Today the Army mobilized and marched for York. The men are in high spirits and ready to rid the English village of rebel scum. Although the men maybe battle ready I am not. My heart still beats for Cecilia, her face always swimming in my mind. It has now been 2 years since I’ve seen her, ever since I was moved north to protect the English border. I promised her that before I went I would ask my father for the right to wed. However I had lied, cowardess consuming my body. Now I have not heard from my lady since.

The Journal of Prince William - May 1080

Word has reached me of Cecilia. Just after dawn a messenger visited the army bearing word of Cecilia. Apparently Princess Cecilia is 10 days ride from the army, after my father ordered her to join the army for York. She had orders to ride to King Malcolm of the Scott’s and negotiate an alliance with Scotland. I know I must pretend she is just my sister but this may be the last time we see each other for a very long time…

The Journal of Prince William - June 1080

Cecilia has joined the army for York. Her escort rode in yesterday, her carriage at the back of the army. I know I shouldn’t visit her but I couldn’t resist the urge. I turned my horse around and rode to the Princess’s carriage.

I dismounted upon reaching the carriage, and strolled to the door. Knocking on the door gently I waited for a reply. Slowly the carriage door was opened and Cecilia servant Margaret stared me in the face. She explained that Cecilia did not wish to see me and slammed the door viciously in my face. I strolled back to my horse and rode back to the front of the army, a tear trickling down my face.

The Scribbling of Richard the Spymaster - May 1080

I have recently received orders from King William. As always the King wishes not to see me, afraid that my presence will insult his honour. Even after years of servitude I am welcomed into his presence. The King wishes me to travel across the channel to Prince Robert in France apparently Robert is worried about the French plotting behind his back. It amuses me how the Nobles think us oblivious to the world around us. Robert does not wish me to spy on the French I know about his priorities from his last visit to London. He paid servants to spy on his brother William under the nose of his father. Of course he failed to realise that half the servants are under my thumb. It appears that William is involved with his sister Cecilia. However at the time I served the King with loyalty. I hid this knowledge away secretly, telling the servants to report nothing back to Robert. I knew this information could ruin the crown so I didn’t inform the King however now that my vengeance is served I wonder how much this information would be worth to a rouge noble like Prince Robert

Looking good. Watch you don't burn yourself out though! You're doing pretty extensive and minute reports for single turns. If you find it gets tedious, don't be afraid to switch to a different mode and tie several turns together in one flowing update

Yes i was thinking about doing that seeing as in a single turn not much of the stroy is revealed and as you can say it is already prity tedious but i think i can hopefully push through the bad...
