Default Rebel City CTD - Improved Fix

The EDB in v.81a was supposed to eliminate this CTD, but a few gaps in our solution have been identified over the past couple weeks. This new EDB is save game compatible, and *should* close the door on the Rebel City CTD. There may still be a few gaps in this solution, but closing them would be a real mess, and we'd rather not open that door unless the theoretical CTD manifests itself. In any event, this EDB is definitely an upgrade over the existing one.

Click here to download the new EDB file

The file is designed to be unzipped into the RTW Root directory (i.e the one above "EB") and will automatically place EDB into the correct folder.

CAVEAT EMPTOR: Although it's not strictly necessary, you might want to make a copy of your old export_descr_buildings.txt file BEFORE overwriting it with this new one.

Is this applied over 0.81a? Could it work with 0.81 without the "a" patch?

I'm not really sure, although you could try it. There's a number of recruitment changes that might be incompatible with v.81. It's easy enough to test though - just be SURE to make a backup copy of your current EDB file first!!

Thumbs up Re: Rebel City CTD - Improved Fix

Could you guys pin this post? It fixed my campaign CTD (you know, the one that happens during the AI's turn, usually an eastern tribe, and is repeatable), and it might help a lot of other people who have similar CTD's for 8.1a. It took me a while to just find this post again after applying the fix :)

I don't know how you guys fixed this, but it rescued my save game with the Casse, right as I was about to invade Gaul :D Thanks!

Yes very nice Work Even if I must confess that I have made my own modification manually on the original file for my old Roman campain with 0.81 version.

Of course I have used your debugging explanation on the concerned topic, it was great !

Thank you, this game is about to be perfect now. (it is already perfec in fact )

I don't know if this is related to this patch, but since I've installed it I'm getting a side effect where many of my governors are getting the "uncomfortable supervisor" trait. The description says they are petitioning to be governors of a province, but they've been governors in cities for years now! Though I supposed some bugged traits are better than CTD's ;)

Ah, I had that in my Sweboz campaign as well. I'm only 4 years into a KH game now so I haven't seen it yet, I hope it's not something that'll keep happening.

I was under the impression "uncomfortable supervisors" wanted to govern bigger settlements. Then they'll become happy campers.

If so, then Sweboz (and I'm sure other such factions) are out of luck. Not too many big cities going around those parts of the world, and if everyone's clammering to get to one you don't have many options.

You people make it sound like Uncomfortable Supervisor totally breaks a character. The effects are mostly penalties to combat, where you shouldn't be employing Supervisor characters anyway. And they'll get happy again as soon as they reside in a City or bigger settlement.

Hey, capable and ambitious adminstrators don't like wasting their talents in backwater villages. And if there aren't enough decent-sized settlements for all of them... *shrug* ...tough luck. Do a proper barbarian thing and go raid for slaves across the border.

Awesome! This actually managed to revive my beautiful Makedonian empire game. It managed to undo that heart-sinking I always get when it CTDs. Are there any downsides to this fix?

Ruling the Aedui for 53 years now.
The only "problems" i encountered so far was this one description in a Casse settlement, which read something like "Shouldn't be visible. Report this". Forgot to document this though.
And a CDT just 5 minutes ago, after huge battle against the hordes of Rome. But this should be a memory related problem, as the computer is running for quite some time now (and as i encounter problems with this piece of sh*te all the time anyhow). Or at least I hope so

To conclude: No EB related issues so far (the description error thing doesn't count as a real problem) which is very enjoyable

Good night everybody, local time is 0246. To late to check if this CDT repeats itself.

Hey guys...I ran across a CTD and tried to fix it with this. I got this error in reference to EDB. I get it before the main title menu. Tried deleting map.rwm but still get it.

Please post the save game (instructions for posting files are stickied in the Bug Fix thread). The Team has been focusing in on a rare and nasty bug that causes CTD's during the Hayasdan turn, but we don't have many sample games to examine. Yours could be very helpful!

I'm guessing you installed the fix on top of a v.81 game. The Hundaskapiz were added as part of the hotfix, and weren't present in pre-v.81a games. So that answers the question about whether the add-on Rebel city fix is compatible with earlier versions of EB.....it isn't. Hopefully you backed up EDB before installing the fix. If not you'll need to reinstall v.81 on top of your current build or upgrade to v.81a (or perhaps some kind soul could post a v.81 EDB for you).

Oh, that error was really strange. I definitely installed EB .81a from the full installer yet still got that error. I reinstalled .81a again after copying my old EB folder to EB2 and I still get the CTD. Reinstalling from the full installer for .81a did get rid of the hundaskapiz error I had....so I guess something was wrong. It doesn't seem like your EDB works for me Kull.

For anyone who's interested, I have a separate thread for my CTD.
